..10 Times the Surface Area

NanoTalc and NanoCalc Hold Strong Promise

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (June 27, 2002) - Talc and calcium carbonate have a new face and promise for the paper, plastics, paint and cosmetics industries. In the form of ultrafine nanopowders, talc and calcium carbonate possess unique chemical, mechanical and physical properties. Very chemically active, they have extremely large specific surface areas, and produce stronger, more ductile materials.

Click hereNanomat, Inc., is the first nanomaterials manufacturing company worldwide to develop and produce NanoTalc and NanoCalc for commercial paper, paint, cosmetics and plastics applications.

"It's time for these industries to exploit the vast potential offered by nanomaterials so they can achieve their maximum growth potential," said Srikanth Raghunathan of Nanomat.

With a specific surface area (m2/g) of 270 (compared to 20 for typical commercial talc), NanoTalc produces higher paper opacity, excellent runnability for coating, better gloss and printing quality, and significantly less powdering. NanoTalc-based paints and cosmetic pigments produce better gloss, smoother surfaces, improved resistance to water and cracking, and have less filler and extender content.

NanoTalc also improves plastics through higher strength and stiffness, better thermal and creep resistance, and through reduced filler loadings, water and gas permeability. The product is useful for a wide range of plastics technologies, including polyolefins, ABS, acetal, TPEs, SMC and PVC.

NanoCalc's benefits are very similar, and in addition to the before-mentioned industries, also can improve products in the pharmaceuticals, rubber, sealants, adhesives, and printing ink industries.

Sample quantities of NanoTalc and NanoCalc are available to qualified contacts.

Monitor Levels via the Internet...

New Levelwatch.com Service Provides Remote Inventory Monitoring

Levelwatch.com, a new service from Siemens Milltronics Process Instruments, provides instant access to remote inventory levels, making inventory management, scheduling, and delivery of materials timely and efficient. This service is now available throughout North America.

Click hereLevelwatch.com lets you know bulk material levels at anytime, from anywhere, using the Internet. By logging into a secure, customized web site, you can view level data and respond to changing raw material supplies. It is ideal for monitoring remote storage silos, bins and tanks holding virtually any bulk material, including grain, petroleum, specialty chemicals, plastic pellets, aggregates, cement, pulp, and many other bulk solids or liquids.

At the remote site, reliable instruments from Siemens Milltronics take the level readings. A Levelwatch.com unit connects this field data via landline, wireless modem, or satellite to a secure web site that is staffed continuously. The system monitors level status, tracks trends, and sends alarms directly to designated personnel by any combination of phone, fax, pager, or e-mail. There is no network or software to set up or configure.

Levelwatch.com unlocks the data at remote sites and distributes this information to the people who can use it for business decisions.

Vendors of raw materials can use Levelwatch.com to provide a value-added inventory management service, building a business partnership with clients beyond that of a regular supplier. By monitoring customers' material levels, they can anticipate demand and optimize delivery schedules.

Manufacturers who rely on timely deliveries can use it to ensure the supply of raw materials for continuous production, without running out or emergency deliveries. Remote level monitoring reduces costs, saves staff time traveling to remote sites, and lets you integrate supply data into the office business system. This maximizes people and capital resources for maximum efficiency.

Levelwatch.com offers site data reports by schedule, on demand and by exception. The Report-by- Alarm-Exception feature reduces staff requirements because an operator doesn't need to continuously monitor the screen. For programmed conditions, the system produces an automatic alarm sent to designated personnel by their chosen delivery methods -- phone, fax, pager, and e-mail.

Levelwatch.com lets you view data, alarms, trending graphs, history and administrative reports on-line in a clear and concise layout. You can download trend data in various formats for viewing and analysis. The system, equipment and reporting functions are flexible, accommodating changes as required, even after installation. Level readings can be converted into other units as desired, including volume using the standard Siemens Milltronics Volumetric Tank Conversions.

Siemens Milltronics Process Instruments Inc. is a Siemens company that designs and manufactures sophisticated measurement instruments used by the water and wastewater, aggregate, cement, mining, chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, milling, food and other process industries. Principal product lines include level measurement, dry solids flow measurement, and process protection devices. Products are available worldwide through a network of sales offices, representatives and distributors.

Mr. Marinelli needs a segregation tester:

I am trying to find test equipment that is available to determine the segregation potential of bulk solids.  There are several mechanisms that cause segregation such as sifting, fluidization, etc.  I am looking for available equipment or procedures commonly used to evaluate segregation potential.

Mr. Rawal needs help weighing silos:

We are using stainless steel conical bottom silos of 25 m3 capacity for storing dry pharmaceutical powder. The silos are mounted on six cylindrical equispaced pipe supports of 250mm diameter connected to the silo at a height of 3 meter from the ground (just at the end of conical portion and the start of cylindrical portion).  The nominal gross loading of the silo is 20 tonnes.

We are looking for clamp-on type load cells which can be mounted without cutting the legs or any change in the foundation and can give an accuracy of +/- 1% or better.

Please let us know if you have any supplier any where in the world.
