Fluid & Dry Processing Conference/Exhibition Supported by PEMA
------------------------------------------------------------
Inaugural I-PRO Expo to Attract Southeastern U.S., Latin
American and Caribbean Buyers
Norwalk, CT, July 19, 2000-- The inaugural Industrial Processing
Expo (I-PRO Expo) will take center stage when it arrives at
the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami, FL on October 4-5,
2001. Targeting the Southeastern U.S., Latin American and
Caribbean markets, the event will provide business opportunities
for processing professionals engaged in the processing,
handling, testing, packaging, transportation and storage of
fluids and dry particulate matter/bulk solids.
"We are very excited about the growth opportunities of I-PRO
Expo," says Kevin Richards, industry vice president for Reed
Exhibition Companies, producers and managers of the event.
"By locating I-PRO in Miami, exhibitors will be able to reach
the Southeastern U.S., Latin American and Caribbean markets,
fast-growing geographic areas that previously had not been
drawn to other powder/ fluid events.
Planned as an annual event, I-PRO Expo will be positioned to
provide direct access to fast-growing Southeast/ Gulf Coast
and Latin American processing markets. According to Industry
Week‘s census of world-class manufacturing communities, the
combination of the Southeastern and Gulf Coast regions create
one of the largest manufacturing markets in the U.S.,
representing nearly one third of the nation’s gross domestic
product. This region includes 24 of the top 50 MSA’s
(Metropolitan Statistical Areas).
In addition, free trade agreements including NAFTA have
created new business opportunities in Latin America’s largest
emerging markets for manufacturers of industrial process
equipment, including Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. Brazil,
coupled with Mexico and Argentina’s free market economy,
offers many sales opportunities for industrial processing
equipment marketers. Consider these facts:
-The Brazilian economy is the 8th largest in the world,
larger than the combined economies of Mexico, Argentina
and Chile.
-Mexico is home for more than 4,000 chemical processing
companies and its pharmaceutical industry ranks 10th in
the world.
-Argentina, with a GDP estimated at $374 billion in 1998,
has a diversified industrial base and a highly literate
population.
The island nations of the Caribbean also offer a variety of
markets for process equipment. The market for food processing
and packaging equipment, estimated at $23.5 million in 1999,
is expected to increase by 10% annually for the next few years.
The high demand for processing equipment in the Caribbean
includes used/reconditioned equipment, as well as water
resources and pollution control equipment.
Sponsored by the Process Equipment Manufacturers’ Association
(PEMA®), I-PRO will attract key buyers and decision makers
from areas including: Process Engineering, Design
Engineering, Production/Manufacturing Engineering,
Purchasing, Plant Management/Operations, R&D Engineering,
Quality Control, Environmental Compliance, Logistics,
Engineering Management, Sales/Marketing Management,
Environmental Engineering, Manufacturers’ Representatives,
and Corporate Management.
"Our decision to bring I-PRO to Miami was based on PEMA®’s
feedback and an independent researcher’s careful evaluation
of market demand. Based on this information, we believe
that the Southeastern U.S., Latin American and Caribbean
buyers are greatly under served," stated Richards. "With
economic forecasters at the International Monetary Fund
predicting 4% expansion in Latin America in 2000 and U.S.
Manufacturers predicting revenue to grow by 7.7% in 2000,
we believe that there are enormous growth opportunities
to increase both U.S. and Latin American attendance at
I-PRO."
"We look forward to PEMA®’s input and on-going support of
I-PRO. We are leveraging the strength of PEMA’s resources
with that of Reed’s, to enhance the value of this event
for exhibitors and attendees," added Richards.
Widely-regarded as the definitive training ground for
dry/liquid processing professionals, I-PRO will feature
conference sessions designed to provide practical
solutions and applications of developments in powder/fluid
technology.

High Capacity Screener Makes Sharp, Accurate Size Cuts
------------------------------------------------------------
Cincinnati, OH -- A new high-capacity process screener from
ROTEX INC. provides efficient and precise separation of bulk
solids material at production rates that previously required
multiple units. According to ROTEX, this new screener combines,
for the first time, the fine process screening capabilities
of their ROTEX® Screeners with the high capacity of the
company’s MEGATEX® Screener line.
High capacity in the new MEGATEX MA 100 Series Screener is
attained using a combination of high force gyratory motion
and the multi-level screen box concept of the MEGATEX design
concept. The MEGATEX splitter/manifold feed door distributes
material evenly to each of the multiple levels, assuring
uniform flow to each deck for maximum screen utilization
and screening accuracy.
Increased screen area is achieved by providing greater screen
width rather than length. It is screen width, not length,
that controls the bed depth of feed, a primary parameter in
screener effectiveness. The new MEGATEX® MA 100 Series
Screener incorporates as much as 24 feet of screen width
-- which contributes to the machine’s screening accuracy
and efficiency at high capacities -- into a compact,
cable-suspended package.
The new MEGATEX MA 100 Series Screener is capable of single
or double deck separations in one machine. A proprietary
screen tensioning system, previously unavailable on higher
capacity MEGATEX models, provides positive sealing between
the screen decks to allow accurate screening down to 200
microns, even at elevated production rates. The MA 100
Series MEGATEX Screener also incorporates an optional roof
mounted gross scalping capability for separating large
particles ahead of the actual screening process.

Automatic Bag Taper Reduces Space Required by 30%
------------------------------------------------------------
American Specialty Machinery has announced the introduction
of the new fully automatic bag taper (AST) with 30 bags per
minute sealing capability. The AST has been reduced from 96"
to 64" in length.
The AST runs 50% faster than competitive models and has
totally eliminated hand-taping, product-sifting and associated
labor costs. Bag sealing cost savings have been reported at
up to 50% savings in material and labor. Product loss through
seepage, contamination, atmospheric conditions and pilferage
have, in most cases been totally eliminated.
Operators are especially pleased with the adaptability of the
AST in plant applications. Microprocessor control gives added
flexibility for in-plant adaptation. The modular construction
of the AST permits easy maintenance and replacement of worn
parts. The variable speed conveyor allows for quick in-plant
production updates, without tools when changing from one size
bag to the next.

Enhanced Drive Make Vibratory Feeders the Most Accurate Ever
------------------------------------------------------------
PITMAN, NJ (June 28, 2000) -- K-Tron has introduced a complete
line of enhanced loss-in-weight vibratory feeders that offer
the most accurate feeding ever attained by this type of device.
The vibratory drive has been developed especially for use
with feeders. It uses a patented resonant frequency technology
that assures more precise control of material flow. In
combination with Smart Force Transducer weighing and
SmartConnex control technology, K-Tron's vibratory weigh feeders
now offer a higher level of feeding accuracy, over a wider
feed rate range, than previously attainable by a vibratory
device.
The enhanced electronic control system provides a quick
response to changing feed and environmental conditions. It
provides improved pert detection and self-tuning and features
easier to use operator parameters. Vibratory feeders offer
the most gentle handling for fragile materials, the easiest
cleaning and lowest maintenance of any feeder. They may be
used for free flowing pellets and granular materials, such
as plastic resins. They are also used for abrasive materials,
fiberglass and regrinds. All feeders are stainless steel
construction. Sanitary models are available for food and
pharmaceutical applications.
