Interesting New Industry Web Sites:

Buy-Filters Dot Com

Here is a new web site hosted on Yahoo's e-commerce sites that offers the ability to buy filter cartridges such as Torit-Built and other major manufactures filters directly, online. We added the site to our directory 6/21. The site is well designed and easy to navigate.

Sympatec, Inc. (www.sympatec.com)

This is a German company that we have never heard of until recently.  They specialize in manufacturing laboratory-scale and industrial scale laser-based particle size analyzers with quite a wide operating range.

They are able to detect and measure particles from as small as 0.01 microns to as large as 8,750 microns. Measurement is by laser diffraction and works on dry powders, cohesive powders, suspensions, aerosols and sprays. They also offer in-pipe samplers for industrial measurements.

Sympatec has sales offices world wide.

Ask Joe Column!

This months column from Joe Marinelli is entitled "Silo and Bin Failures" is how design and use of silos can cause structural failures to occur. Good information to know.

Guest Articles

Do you have an area of expertise in bulk materials? We welcome guest articles in the Ask Joe! Column. If you have a 400-500 word article (illustrations are ok), please contact Joe Marinelli at his email address "shtech@fmtc.net".

Ask Joe Archive

Many of you have asked to read the past ramblings of Joe Marinelli and articles from our guest authors.  You asked for it, so here it is.  Articles are listed chronologically by the month it appeared.

The Internet

A great web site you might want to check out is called Search Engine Watch (www.searchenginewatch.com). All of us at one time or another use search engines for finding information on the internet.

Search Engine Watch keeps tabs on the latest developments on all the major search engines. Take a look and see how yours rates in the number of pages indexed.

Did you know that Northern Lights is the largest search engine with over 150 million web pages indexed? Did you know that there is a new search engine being by Stanford called "Google".

Also for the webmasters, they have a great monthly news about the latest changes, month-by -month. We read it every month and love it!

Hot Messages from the Help Forum

The On-Line Materials Handling Help Forum is one of our busiest pages. People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in an open forum.

You can visit the Help Forum by clicking on the its button, "Materials Handling Help Forum" on any page of our web site.

Ernst Rand in Holland writes:

We are manufacturing powdered flavors. Some customers want a certain flowability of their products, because they use certain dosage equipment for adding our products to their (usually) snack products (crisps, extruded snacks etc.)
Is their a simple method to measure the flowability (so that we can adjust it by adding more drying agents) of powders.

Kind regards, Ernie. email: Ernst.Rand@IFF.com

Fred Tarazon of Mazama International writes:

I have 101,000 lbs. of extra-fine sugar in bulk that I need to have this repacked to 100 lb. bags and shipped to New Jersey. The sugar is at Baldwin, Florida.  I need to find somebody that will repack this sugar for me ASAP. I prefer if it's someplace in Florida, the East Coast or even maybe near to New Jersey. The sugar is in rail cars right now. Please email me with some info so I may complete
this deal.

Thanks, Fred Tarazon Mazama Intl.
