"No
Compromise" IBCs
Optimizing the Choice of an IBC
System
Ajax Equipment offers three types of
IBC's in order to meet the performance demands of the industries
that handle bulk solids. With over thirty years experience we offer
a comprehensive range of quality IBC systems with designs
incorporating latest developments in Flow Technology.
Gravity flow bins offer the simplest
option for users, as discharge is simple and inexpensive. Gravity
works for free and this is where Ajax flow technology supports the
design to maximize gravity flow. By undertaking comprehensive powder
testing we determine the geometry and outlet size needed to provide
predictable, reliable flow with Mass Flow form of discharge if
appropriate. State-of-the-art hopper design secures the maximum
capacity in a limited headroom and reliable flow through the
smallest outlet size. The result is the LynflowTM IBC system, that
offers standard and custom designed gravity flow bins.
The Ajax Cone Valve IBC System
provides flow stimulation and offers discharge control by means of
the ISL Cone Valve. Designed by the inventor of the original cone
valve this new generation offers significant improvements to earlier
versions now still in use. There is no mechanism in the flow channel
and it is much simpler and more hygienic in construction. It is
cleaned and serviced in minutes. In combination with our in-house
testing, design and manufacturing facilities and the comprehensive
support in equipment accessories, this system can satisfy many
demanding requirements.
The
ultimate bin system for holding capacity and guaranteeing discharge
for difficult flow materials is the Ajax 'Invertabin' system. The
bin geometry incorporates LynflowTM technology for bin shape, making
the large outlet even more effective. Turning the bin over disturbs
any time consolidation and improves the flow condition of the
contents, without violent agitation that may cause fluidity and
flushing.
The design has many advantages. With
only one opening for filling and discharge there is no prospect of
leakage, drips or mess in transit. As the name implies, the IBC is
placed in a simple inverting frame where it is turned over to
discharge. The IBC base is flat for maximum holding capacity whilst
the large inlet offers easy filling and maximum capacity in limited
headroom and hence a large outlet when inverted for discharge. The
IBC is fitted with a simple, inexpensive weatherproof lid. The Ajax
'Invertabin' System, Less Weight, Less Height, Less Cost, and Bigger
Opening ensures complete gravity discharge.
All Ajax bin systems can be served by
slave lid seals for fitting and discharging through dust tight
containment. Weigh systems, keg and sack loading, keg and sack
filling, screw feed discharge control, tumbling stations and screw
or pneumatic filling, discharging and conveying are available. The
Ajax 'No Compromise' choice of IBC Bin System offers the most
comprehensive designs to suit your needs.

Peterborough, Canada, June 21, 2001
– A new lifting device helps you safely store and easily apply
belt scale reference weights during calibration.
The
Milltronics Weight Lifter (MWL) securely holds weights above belt
scale calibration weight arms, and enables you to lower them onto
the belt scale weigh bridge for calibration purposes, then raise
them again easily, all with a simple cranking motion. It allows safe
application of calibration weights without the operator having to
lean into the conveyor. No more stretching, lugging or exposure to
the potential dangers between the belt strands. The crank handle is
easily stored for safety when not in use.
With its modular construction, it
adapts easily to different conveyor widths. The MWL is independent
of the belt scale construction. It does not add to the tare load of
the belt scale or affect the weighing process when not applied.
The MWL is suitable for use with all
Milltronics belt scales. Test weight capacity ranges from 80 kg (175
lb.) on a standard duty Milltronics Universal Scale (MUS) up to 225
kg (500 lb.) on a Milltronics Single Idler Scale (MSI).
The design features a crank arm
driven worm gear and a toothed drive plate combination which creates
a high mechanical advantage of 20:1, allowing an operator to apply a
large mass of weight with limited effort. A locking pin secures the
mechanism and thus the weights in storage position ensuring they are
not misapplied during production periods.
Installation is easy. There are just
four bolt holes to drill after aligning the MWL gear modules (Left
Hand and Right Hand) with the belt scale on the conveyor. After
running the MWL empty to ensure proper alignment, and then
tightening the mounting bolts, you are ready to load the test
weights (the last time they will have to be loaded by hand). The
easy-to-store drive handle can be applied to the left or right side.

Strategic
Fit
Outokumpu to Purchase Lurgi AG
Outokumpu grows its technology
business and broadens the scope The Outokumpu Group has on July 4,
2001 entered into an agreement with the German company Lurgi AG, a
subsidiary of mg technologies ag, whereby Outokumpu Technology Oy
will acquire Lurgi Metallurgie GmbH, the worldwide metallurgical
technology business of Lurgi AG. The purchase price is some EUR 52
million. The closing of the transaction is subject to the approval
of the respective Boards and appropriate national regulatory
agencies.
The
strategic fit between Outokumpu Technology and Lurgi Metallurgie is
excellent. By combining the expertise, experience and technology
base of the two innovative companies, Outokumpu will consolidate its
position as a leading technology partner in the metallurgical
industry. The acquisition of Lurgi Metallurgie strengthens
Outokumpu's technology business significantly and facilitates a
potential growth in net sales to a level of EUR 600 million within
the next 4-5 years based on the combined capabilities and product
offerings of the two companies. This business growth is also
expected to be accompanied by considerable profitability
improvements.
The technology and resource base of
Lurgi Metallurgie and Outokumpu Technology complement each other
particularly well. Outokumpu becomes globally the number one
supplier of copper and zinc plants, a major supplier of aluminum
technologies and a key supplier of innovative technologies for the
ferrous and ferroalloy industries. Customers will be offered a wider
and more comprehensive technology scope, including turnkey projects.
The combination will also facilitate Outokumpu's goal to become the
premier service company to the metallurgical industry worldwide.
"Technology as a business, but
also as an underlying strength, has always been of a great
importance within Outokumpu. In line with the Group's strategy to
double and transform its businesses, Outokumpu Technology is well on
its way to doubling the volumes and profits by 2004-2005. The recent
smaller acquisitions of Hoesch & Söhne, KHD Aluminium and now
the significant acquisition of Lurgi Metallurgie will ensure that
the technology business will now have a stronger platform for
profitable organic growth and transformation into a major technology
partner in the metallurgical industry", explains Mr. Tapani
Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Outokumpu and President of
Metallurgy business area. "The acquisition of Lurgi Metallurgie
will also remarkably boost the New Business Venture concept of
Outokumpu Metallurgy business area. We can now offer customers a
unique combination through the in-house operational experience from
our own copper and zinc processing units where proprietary
technologies and other first class technologies are in daily use,
which are further supported by our own metals and minerals
processing Research Center", Järvinen continues.
"Following the Lurgi Metallurgie
acquisition, Outokumpu Technology will employ more than 1500 people
in 15 countries - I am especially pleased to welcome all Lurgi
Metallurgie people to join us. We have worked side by side on
several technology projects around the world and I'm sure that by
combining our know-how and resources we'll have an exciting future
ahead of us", says Tapani Järvinen. "No doubt Outokumpu
Technology will become one of the most attractive employers in the
world for talented, dedicated and enthusiastic people offering them
the possibility to participate in the development of environmentally
sound and energy-efficient metallurgical innovations and
technologies for the good of the future generations", he
continued.
"Lurgi Metallurgie is recognized
in the industry for its long-standing track record for innovation
and strong focus on technology, which is complemented by its
capabilities to deliver complex lump sum turnkey projects. We
consider Outokumpu to be perfectly positioned to develop a fully
integrated service approach for metallurgical clients on a global
scale. In the future it will be our competence for solving clients'
problems that will count and Outokumpu Technology will be best
suited to fulfill these needs", commented Mr. Christof von
Branconi, Chairman of the Executive Board of Lurgi Metallurgie.
Following the acquisition the special
competence areas of Outokumpu's technology business will be within
mineral processing, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, ferrous
metallurgy, aluminum and sulfuric acid production, as well as
customer service. The plan for the integration of Lurgi Metallurgie
and Outokumpu Technology is currently being developed and the
detailed integration projects will start as soon as the final
approvals have been obtained.
