VAC-U-MAX Becomes a Powder and Bulk Dot Com Sponsor

We are pleased to announce that VAC-U-MAX, Inc. has become a sponsor of Powder and Bulk Dot Com.

Click hereVAC-U-MAX specializes in design and manufacture of pneumatic systems and support equipment for conveying, weighing and batching of dry materials.

The primary technology for conveying is vacuum, but positive pressure pneumatic systems as well as mechanical conveyors are used as applications dictate.  An equally important activity is design and manufacture of heavy duty industrial vacuum cleaners, ranging from small air and electric powered drum styled units to large electric and diesel powered units.

VAC-U-MAX equipment and systems are sold worldwide. Major markets for conveying systems include the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries. Specialty applications include conveying of small parts and objects, including coins and heavy metal powders.

Features Auto-Taring

Smart Weigh Belt Feeder Now Available in Two Sizes

Pitman, NJ -- K-Tron's Smart Weigh Belt feeder is now available in both 300 and 600 mm belt widths and in your choice of either open or closed frame versions. The K-Tron Smart Weigh belt feeder is the first to offer the continuous online auto tare option. Automatic and continuous online taring of the belt reduces maintenance, line shutdowns and manual calibration. A second weigh bridge enables this function.

Click hereLaboratory tests also show continuous online auto-tare improves long term accuracy. In addition, improved auto belt tracking, K-Tron's patented SFT weighing technology and its new SmartConnex control technology further improve the accuracy of the Smart Weigh Belt, which sets a new standard in weigh belt feeder reliability.

The Smart Weigh Belt's improved performance and easier maintenance make it possible for processors to use weigh belt feeders in applications where loss-in-weight feeders had been their only option. It also increases the range of feed rates that a single weigh belt feeder can handle, an important consideration for wild flow applications.

The Smart Weigh Belt Feeder has a stainless steel enclosure and is designed for easy cleanability. The conveyor assembly slides out easily, simplifying cleaning and maintenance. Weigh belt feeders are used in batch and continuous applications for higher feed rates of pellets and granular materials, where headroom is limited, or when feeding friable material that may be damaged by other feeding methods.

...High Accuracy Contaminate Removal

New Plastic-Pellet Screeners Remove Off-Size Material

CINCINNATI, OH -- Expanding the options for compounders seeking extremely accurate removal of off-size material, Rotex has added two new models with capacities up to 3,000 and 5,000 pounds per hour to the competitively-priced, high efficiency line of Rotex Plastic Pellet Screeners.

Click hereThe new Rotex Plastic Pellet Screeners utilize a unique horizontal, gyratory/ reciprocating motion, and an exclusive patent-pending "Dual Velocity" drive with a positive displacement stroke to achieve unmatched removal of oversize and longs.

The long stroke, gyratory motion - four times as long as vibratory screeners -spreads pellets evenly across the full width of the unit. The motion then stratifies the material for exceptionally efficient fines removal and separation of the oversize from the on-spec pellets. Good pellets are not removed with the oversize.

The Rotex motion contains no vertical component, so long pellets, "toothpicks" and "jackstraws" remain flat on the screen deck. They cannot upend or pass through the screen with the on-spec pellets, as they often do with vibratory screeners. For increased accuracy, a double pass option is available to screen pellets twice. Final product can be up to 99 percent free of longs 3/8" to 2" (0.9 to 5 cm).

The reliable, low-maintenance "Dual Velocity" drive operates at lower speeds, reducing noise and wear on components, and minimizes vibration with a counter-weight drive.

Rotex Plastic Pellet Screeners are easily disassembled and reassembled for regular maintenance or for cleaning between batches, and are portable and simple to move off-line. With compact footprints and lower silhouettes than most other screening machines, Rotex Plastic Pellet Screeners have an installed height as low as 27" (69 cm).

Mounting options include casters, kick-down legs or a stand. When running longer batches without interruption for cleaning, unique variable frequency tappers can be added for additional control of screen blinding without the use of mesh cleaning balls. Optional stainless steel wire screens, perforated plates or a combination of the two can be installed to meet any separation requirement.

"...for high temperatures"

First Baghouse Filter Media Developed for Fire Safety

Lantor Inc., a leading filter bag fabric supplier, is positioning itself as the leader in filter media development with the introduction of the new Panotex® Filtration Media for high temperature baghouse applications. Lantor has developed a range of filter media incorporating nonflammable oxidized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber.

Oxidized PAN fiber is widely used in aerospace, fire-fighting suits and fire blocking applications due to its high temperature resistance, nonflammability and insulation properties. The fiber has the unique ability to neither absorb heat, melt nor burn, such as other synthetic high temperature fibers. The blending of nonflammable oxidized PAN fiber with other high temperature fibers creates an economical filtration media for high temperature baghouse applications.

The blending of the two fibers offers the benefits of each to the filtration media: the high strength of the synthetic fiber and nonflammability of the oxidized PAN fiber. The media is extremely resistant to hot spark burn through. Panotex® Filtration Media blends currently available are:

  • Oxidized PAN/Aramid
  • Oxidized PAN/Polyimide
  • Oxidized PAN/PPS

Each of the blended media is available with or without scrim support and is available in 14 to 16 oz/yd2 weights. The new products specifications are similar to the standard non-blended filtration media.

Lixy needs 4 km long pneumatic conveying system:

Is it possible to design a 4,000 meter long-distance pneumatic conveying system?

The capacity of the system will be 80 t/h and the distance is 4000 meters long with 20 meters vertical rising. I hope you can give me some information about the total pressure drop and the approximate end velocity at the pipe end.

I hope you can give me some suggestions.
