TIVAR 88 Pug Mill Paddles Now Available with Steel Inserts

Fort Wayne, IN -- Poly Hi Solidur's TIVAR 88 pug mill paddles with patented abrasion tip are now available with a steel insert option. The steel insert, used for rigidity, increases customization capabilities for unique applications. These paddles expand the application opportunities for larger size mixers/conditioners and those operating with a much higher torque.

Click hereMade from TIVAR 88, a material recognized worldwide for its low coefficient of friction, high abrasion resistance, and moisture-, corrosion- and chemical-resistant properties, TIVAR 88 pug mill paddles eliminate sticking and material build-up on paddles, shafts and housings; ensure consistent, thorough blending of dry, paste and slurry-type bulk materials; and reduce power, operating and maintenance costs. Bulk materials such as sludge, fly ash and kiln dust, slide smoothly and cleanly off TIVAR 88's ultra-slick surface.

Tested under some of the harshest real-world conditions, TIVAR 88 pug mill paddles clearly outlasted the competition up to three times as long as abrasion resistant steel, beaded ceramic trowel-finish, ceramic spray-coated, and ceramic tile tip paddles.

Poly Hi Solidur is the world's leading manufacturer of polymer lining material for use in hoppers, chutes, bins, bunkers, dump bodies, etc., and sold under the TIVAR and QuickSilver brand names. Both TIVAR and QuickSilver are recognized worldwide for their low coefficient of friction and abrasion-resistant properties. Headquartered in Fort Wayne, Ind., Poly Hi Solidur has manufacturing, fabricating and sales facilities worldwide, including the U.S., Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia, Brazil and Latin America.

New pneumatic ship unloader...

Portanova Offers Complete Infrastructure

Uzwil, Switzerland -- Sarantopoulos Mills S.A in Greece opted for a pneumatic Portanova ship unloader. Reason: An inadequate port infrastructure, including the absence of electric power, rail tracks and a belt conveyor system in the vicinity.

Click hereDuring 1999, Buhler developed a new pneumatic ship unloader. It was based on a new modular concept, which reduced on-site assembly work requirements to bolting together the preassembled modules. This shortens the assembly time and helps prevent assembly errors. As port installations often lack fixed belt conveyor systems, the basic version of the Portanova is equipped with two outlets for loading trucks. Thanks to its large diesel tank, which can hold 4800 liters, this unit is capable of uninterrupted operation during roughly three days. Durable components have been used in the unloader to ensure a long service life under heavy-duty port conditions.

Electronic monitoring system

A V8 diesel engine with 12 liters’ piston displacement directly powers the rotary piston blower. The power for the electrical users is produced by a diesel- electric generating set. A state-of-the-art hydraulic system is applied for secondary drives such as for powering unloader travel and for swiveling and lifting/lowering the boom. Thanks to the proportional control valve technique applied, the mass forces transmitted to the steel structure are minimized. The material discharge airlock is a very important component of the system. Wear and jamming by foreign objects are unpleasant occurrences associated with any ship unloading operation. Therefore, a split airlock valve with easy-to-exchange wear jackets is applied. In addition, the airlock drive is monitored electronically for overload. In the event of jamming, the airlock rotor reverses its direction of rotation a number of times to clear the passage again in the airlock rotor.

Easy operation and maintenance

For operation and maintenance of the unloader, the important points are accessible via stairs, platforms and walkways. To facilitate access to the telescopic carriage and the conveying lines, the boom can be lowered within a matter of minutes to the ground. Hoists are installed in the machine house to allow airlock servicing. Contaminated and/or defective filter bags can easily be pinpointed and removed toward the top, thanks to the Top-Removal system of Buhler dust collection filters. A state-of-the-art PLC control system monitors the functions and displays the relevant messages. A radio control system enables the Portanova to be operated from the ship. Truck loading is accomplished through a cable control system from the control platform.

The customer benefits in a multitude of ways from this new installation: low capital investment, maintenance, and operating costs paired with high flexibility, mobility, dependability, and availability plus – not least – a long service life.

VacBoss Inland Pneumatic Conveyors

Blomkest, MN -- Christianson Systems has long been an industry leader in the development of mobile combination vacuum and pressure dry cargo pneumatic conveyors. They introduced pneumatic grain conveying to USA agriculture back in the early 70s and have been spearheading wider uses, higher capacity, efficiency, less noise, less dust and less product degradation in its line of mobile pneumatic conveying systems for inland use.

Click hereCustomers call the VacBoss the most ideal mobile pneumatic conveyor for all types of inland applications: emptying storage bins, filling silos, hot-spot removal, cleaning around grain terminal, rail car unloading and general grain conveying.

Keeping dust out of the blower allows VacBoss to handle a wide variety of flowable products besides grains that include fly ash, sugar and even cement. The Reduced Velocity Inlet and general handling characteristics of the VacBoss make it ideal for grain seed and difficult to handle oily sunflowers or milo.

VacBoss is available with either PTO drive or diesel engine in three capacity ranges; 5” VacBoss Junior with max rating at 2,900 bushels (70 MT) per hour, Model 4066 rated 4,000 bushels (100 MT) per hour, and Model 5068 rated at 5,500 bushels (140 MT) per hour.

Other standard features include an all new silencing system, hydraulic folding truck loading kit, vacuum breaker, hour meter and many other features. The silencing system limits noise to approximately 90 dba all around the machine making it friendly to be around.

Christianson went for the additional cost of the filtration system and silencing explaining that customers would rather pay a little more to have the machine last several times longer than competitive machines giving it an overall lower cost in the long run.

Mr. Boggs needs an aspirator:

I have an application where the customer is requiring an inline aspirator for dry bulk loading a rail-car.  The pipe sizes are 4" and 6".  Is there any information, links, or articles that somebody could supply to point me in the right direction on how to source or fabricate the required component.

Ms. Novoslavski needs help with a reversible belt conveyor:

We have a reversible belt which goes off track every time direction changes.

Few self alignment idlers did not help much. If somebody has an experience with that, what would you suggest?
