NDC's New Non-Contact Moisture
Analyzer
Irwindale
CA -- NDC introduces a new model to its established 710
Series of on-line analyzers for industry. The new CM710
moisture gauge has been developed to provide reliable
performance in the harsher industrial operating environments
found in the minerals, ceramics, ore processing, chemical,
sinter and similar processes.
Mounted 250mm above the product on the conveyor and able to
measure over fluctuating product heights, and even
discontinuous product flows using the optional High Speed
Gating system, the patented non-contacting NIR reflectance
(backscatter) optics are designed for best accuracy and
maximum long-term stability without ever needing to be
recalibrated.
With a
range of available housings with sealing ratings up to IP67
for full hose-down areas, as well as ATEX certified options
up to Zone 20 dust-hazard, CM710 is designed to operate in
ambient temperatures up to 50 degrees C, or hotter with an
optional cooling attachment.
The
CM710 displays the product moisture content on its full
color Operator Interface and measurement outputs are
available with a choice of formats, from a scalable analogue
output to full network connectivity (Profibus, Modbus Plus,
DeviceNet, Ethernet) to enable integration into PLCs and
factory DCS or SCADA systems to provide closed-loop control
of the drying process.
With
mounting fossil fuel prices, industry expends huge resources
in drying powdered and mineral products down to target
moistures. Introducing closed-loop control based on the
stable drift-free output of the CM710 enables users to
introduce energy savings whilst maintaining uniform product
quality and eliminating the need for routine grab-sampling
for off-line testing. Designed for robustness, ease of
installation, lowest maintenance costs, and maximum
long-term stability, the CM710 is supported by NDC’s
worldwide Customer Care Team.

Bolt‘N Go - Drop Forged Conveyor
Chain
Leeds,
UK -- Flight installation and chain assembly made easy. 4B
Braime is pleased to announce the launch of the new
revolutionary Bolt‘N Go drop forged chain system.
The
new Bolt‘N Go system is a very flexible system of high
strength hollow pins, heavy duty washers and nylock nuts,
which enable bolts to pass through to connect the links
together and attach flights.
There
are no circlips to become loose and there is no intricate
assembly. There is no welding required on the flights, no
need to remove chain from the conveyor for installation, and
no issues with strength. Just bolt the links and the flights
together. It’s easy, simple and reliable.
The
Bolt‘N Go system’s advantages:
- No more welding of flights
- No need to remove chain from conveyor
- Reliable secured link, pin and flight
- Reduced maintenance cost and down time
- Steel or plastic flights
Founded in the UK in 1971, 4B Components, Ltd. has been an
industry leader in developing high quality, innovative, and
dependable material handling components for the agricultural

Quick-Access Screener Speeds Cleaning
MILLBURN,
NJ -- A new “Air-Lift” quick-access system for circular
vibratory screeners allows rapid interior cleaning,
inspection and screen changes while reducing manual
effort, according to Henry Alamzad, president of Kason
Corporation.
The device consists of two
vertically mounted air cylinders that are located on
opposing sides of any circular screener and affixed to
mounting brackets on the lower and upper screening
frames.
To operate, a quick-acting
band clamp connecting the frames is removed and a remote
air valve is actuated, raising the upper frame(s). The
procedure is reversed to reconnect the frames.
One entire raise/lower cycle,
including disconnection and reconnection of the frames,
can reportedly be accomplished in five minutes, reducing
downtime during inspection, cleaning and screen-changes.
In addition, one operator can now perform what was
previously a two-person task, depending on screen
diameter.
Safety features include a
safety lock-out that secures the frames in the open or
closed position when the upper screener housing is
raised or lowered, safety bars that prevent the housing
from accidentally descending while in a fully-raised
position during screen changes or wash down, and
optional enclosures that cover the pneumatic cylinders.
Click
to watch Kason's Air Lift in action.
The Air-Lift device is
available on any new Kason screener, and can be retrofit
to any circular vibratory screener of any make or model
from 40 in. to 84 in. (1000 mm to 2135 mm) in diameter,
including screeners having single or multiple decks, and
screens with or without center holes and/or
anti-blinding devices.
Kason screeners equipped with
the device are available in mild steel, or in stainless
steel finished to 3-A, cGMP, USDA, FDA or industrial
standards.
The screening assembly is
suspended on springs that allow it to vibrate freely
while minimizing power consumption and preventing
vibration transmission to the floor. Beneath the
assembly is an imbalanced-weight, gyratory motor that
creates multi-plane inertial vibration for the purpose
of controlling the flow path of material on screen
surfaces and maximizing the rate at which material
passes through the screen.
The company manufactures a
broad range of circular vibratory screeners, centrifugal
screeners, and circular fluid bed dryers, coolers and
moisturizers.

Mr. Gentile wants to level off
powder in a mold:
I am trying to level off
powder that is dispensed into a mold and I am not sure of
the best technique.
Our process at this time is
lab scale, and not fully automated. We have a mold which
will be filled by weight with the powder. Currently this is
done by hand, but we intend on having the powder metered
into the mold.
Our current leveling
technique is done by hand, with a fixed height doctor blade
that has slits cut into it...similar to a comb. This
technique works OK, but it doesn't lend itself to
automation, and I'm sure we still get some density variation
after we press the part despite the fact the part comes out
with only .001" thickness variation over a 1.5" span.
Can someone enlighten me on
techniques that are used to level powders in a mold? the
process will need to be something that can be scaled up for
automation purposes.

Mr. Sam wants to calculate load
based on free-falling ore:
I'm hoping to get some
guidance on my problem here. We have a hopper with
inlet dimension 9' x 20' and outlet dimension 5' x 20' and
its height is 12'. Below this hopper is apron conveyor. We
use vertical skirting to seal the material from flowing to
sides and back of apron conveyor (the hopper construction is
similar with feed chute).
80 tons of nickel ore is
dumped from dump truck directly to empty hopper and fill the
hopper and also create impact on apron conveyor due to free
fall. Nickel Ore is sticky material (limestone look alike)
with 30 % moisture.
I want to know how to
calculate load/pressure distribution on apron due to impact
from free-fall ore because I want to determine the minimum
required power needed for this apron conveyor. Is there any
formula to calculate this? I've read some silo books and it
only mention about pressure distribution along silo/hopper
wall.
