NurnbergMesse buys Shanghai
Powder/Bulk Conference
Nurnberg,
Germany -- The purchase of the International Powder/Bulk
Conference & Exhibition (IPB) in Shanghai by NurnbergMesse
is signed and sealed. Only a few days after the official
opening of the NurnbergMesse subsidiary NurnbergMesse China
Co. Ltd., the company secured the event rights for the
annual exhibition and conference on powder and bulk solids
technology in the Asian region.
“The
event offers the chance to distinctly strengthen the
competitive position in China of a core theme of
NurnbergMesse. We also expect a clear qualitative and
quantitative improvement in the internationality of POWTECH,
the leading European exhibition for powder and bulk solids
technologies organized in Nurnberg,” says Claus Rattich,
Member of the Management Board of NurnbergMesse.
The
IPB, which takes place this year in the Shanghai Everbright
Convention & Exhibition Center from 23-25 October 2007, has
previously been organized by the Chinese exhibition
organizer WES. The responsibility for the 2007 event still
rests with WES and NurnbergMesse China will take over the
organization in 2008.
“International companies use the IPB mainly to prepare or
push their market entry in China,” explains Axel Bartkus,
Managing Director of NurnbergMesse China.
“Our
aim is to improve and develop the event concept, in which we
will be supported by WES as strategic partner particularly
on exhibition matters. An agreement has been reached with
the Chinese Society of Particuology concerning cooperation
on conferences accompanying exhibitions in addition to the
IPB,” continues Bartkus.
The
World Congress on Particle Technology, the world’s leading
event for particle experts, will take place in Peking in
2014 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jinghai Li, President
of the Chinese Society of Particuology. In 2010, the World
Congress is in Nurnberg at the same time as POWTECH and
TechnoPharm.
Get-together for process technicians, process engineers and
production managers The IPB is an exhibition with
accompanying conference for the Asian region that is
comparable with the European-based POWTECH in Nurnberg in
terms of both exhibition theme and exhibitor and visitor
groups.
China
is a large growth market for suppliers of powder, granule
and bulk solids technologies. Whether for toothpaste or car
paint, fertilizer or eye-shadow, washing powder or toner for
copiers, powders form the basis of innumerable products for
our daily needs. The manufacture and processing of powder,
granules or bulk solids in such varied forms requires the
use of high-tech machinery and plant, which are combined
under the term “mechanical processing technology”.
The
manufacturers of these machines and plants present their
products as exhibitors at POWTECH in Nurnberg and at the IPB
in Shanghai. The visitors are process technicians, process
engineers and production managers from a wide range of
industries such as the chemical, cosmetic, food and
automotive industries.

Free Web Seminar on PAT
Implementation
Malvern,
UK -- On July 11, 2007 as part of the company’s extensive
program of live, free, web-based seminars, Malvern
Instruments will host a presentation covering on-line
particle size analysis in relation to PAT.
With
the continual adoption of FDA's PAT initiative throughout
the pharmaceutical industry, particle size analysis is
frequently identified as one of the critical process
parameters requiring real-time, on-line monitoring and
control.
The
webinar ‘PAT - the implementation and benefits of on-line
particle size analysis for pharmaceutical manufacturing’
will discuss the ways in which Malvern Instruments laser
diffraction and spatial filter velocimetry on-line analyzers
can benefit relevant pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
About

The
Wilpinjong Mine is a new stand alone site that was developed
under the Project Management of Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture
(TSJV) on behalf of Excel Coal.
The
Stacker is 90 meters in overall length pivoting on a fixed
bearing at ground level and rising 20 meters vertically to
the discharge chute at an angle of inclination of 15
degrees.
The
Stacker is fitted with a telescopic discharge chute and the
stockpile forming operation is fully automated through the
PLC controller. The nominal operating capacity of the
machine is 1,800 tons per hour.
The
project met all of the Client’s expectations with regards to

New "Rhinoveyor" Flexible Screw Conveyor
Charlotte,
NC -- Spiroflow Systems, Inc. recently introduced the
new ‘Rhinoveyor™’ range of flexible screw conveyors for
abrasive materials. The Rhinoveyor is designed to convey
the most abrasive materials such as sintered metals,
PFA, pumice, sand, aggregates, silica, cement and
carborundum.
Manufactured with a tough
conveying tube, the ‘Rhinoveyor’ product line extends
the scope of these versatile conveyors into applications
for abrasive materials. Traditionally, Ultra High
Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) tubes are used in
flexible screw conveyors, and have an almost indefinite
life when used to convey most materials. Wear is only a
problem with UHMWPE tubes when handling the most
abrasive products.
A key factor to the
suitability of flexible screw conveyors for abrasive
applications is their simplicity and lack of bearings.
The conveying tube is effectively one long support while
the conveyed product acts as the lubricant centralizing
the rotating spiral within the tube.
In the past it has been
recommended that flexible screw conveyors must always
run full of material. Running empty can lead to
excessive noise and wear. However, the nature of the new
‘Rhinoveyor’ conveying tubes means that running empty no
longer creates the wear and noise. However, as flexible
spiral conveyors are not totally self-emptying, they
ideally suited for transferring material from storage to
weigh hoppers or to a process but not for transferring
pre-weighed batches of material where total transfer is
required.
Flexible screw conveyors can,
typically, carry material to a maximum distance of 60
ft, although multiple, linked units can extend to
greater distances as required. The maximum throughput
for the new ‘Rhinoveyor’ range can be has high as 5
tons/hr dependent upon the material and the angle at
which it is to operate.
‘Spiroflow’ Flexible Screw
Conveyors will still be available with UHMWPE conveying
tubes for food, pharmaceutical, fine chemicals and other
applications. UHMWPE tubes and stainless steel contact
parts offer a high level of hygiene for food, dairy and
pharmaceutical applications.

Rocky wants help with the
Johanson equation:
I am new for this powder
industry. I found some articles about Johanson equation
here. In the article "calculating free-fall mass flow
at hopper outlet" Mr. Lee and Ali gave me impressive
explanation about it.
What confusing me is the
capital "M" , I found it in other books about "M" that "1"
for long slot outlet, "0" for conical hopper. just opposite
to the article mentioned about. Any answers would be
appreciated!

Mr. Camus wants to increase
density of bulk solids:
We are a consultancy
specialized in technologies. We support industrial
companies in their innovation projects and help them solve
technical problems.
I am currently in charge of a
project concerning powder production and transport.
Transport is done in bulk, in tanks. We are interested in
optimizing the tank filling ratio. Our experiments
have shown that tapping, applied to small containers, could
significantly increase the amount of powder contained, ie.
its apparent density.
Have you experimented scaling
up this process to large containers? To what
size/weight? What technology would you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your
help,
