Space Saving Robotic Palletizer Double Stacks Loads
------------------------------------------------------------
The A-Series robotic palletizers from Columbia/Okura are
capable of double stacking loads during the palletizing
operation. The robot is programmed to pick a pallet from
a floor mounted hopper or pallet conveyor and stack product
in sequence until the next pallet is needed. The robot then
picks and places the second pallet on top of the load being
palletized. The robot then resumes stacking on top of the
second pallet producing a double-stacked load.
This unique concept avoids the need for costly load double
stacking equipment. Each double stacked load eliminates fork
truck double handling, assures tight, square loads that are
centered on each pallet and maximizes both truck and ware
house space.
The A-Series robots can simultaneously palletize boxes, trays
bags and bundles with industry-leading, end-of-arm tooling
designed specifically for your application. The end effectors
can also be fitted to pick slip sheets and pallets, saving
you money and floor space. Programming is accomplished simply
with our windows based software.
With over 100 years of combined material handling experience,
Columbia/Okura is ready to tackle your toughest palletizing
challenge.

HealthShield Technologies Receives FDA Approval For Food Contact
------------------------------------------------------------
BOSTON, June 21 /PRNewswire/ - HealthShield Technologies today
announced that on June 9th, 2000 the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) approved HealthShield Technologies antimicrobial compound,
HealthShield(TM), as a safe and acceptable antimicrobial additive
in all food contact materials.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000621/NEW030LOGO)
The FDA's notification confirms that HealthShield Technologies
antimicrobial compound complies with Section 409(h)(6) of the
FFDCA (21 U.S.C. 348(h)(6)) which defines a food contact substance
as "any substance intended for use as a component of materials
used in manufacturing, packing, packaging, transporting, or holding
food if such use is not intended to have any technical effect in
such food." The premarket notification process for food contact
substances in section 409(h) of the FFDCA is the primary method by
which the FDA authorizes the use of food additives that are food
contact substances.
HealthShield Technologies application for notification as a food
contact substance contained extensive information pertaining to
HealthShield's safety, toxicology and chemistry. HealthShield
Technologies demonstrate to the FDA that HealthShield is safe for
the intended use in all food contact materials, which is the subject
of the approval from the FDA.
The announcement positions HealthShield Technologies to address a
growing concern over microbial cross contamination within the food
packaging and food contact polymers.
According to Neil Friedman, President and COO of HealthShield
Technologies, the incorporation of the HealthShield antimicrobial
compound will prevent the growth of bacteria in and on the surface
of the food packaging and food contact polymers. "We are very
excited about the potential this product has for the food service
community. The compound's patented silver ion delivery system
ensures the antimicrobial efficacy and longevity."
HealthShield Technologies, a Boston-based biotechnology company
engaged in antimicrobial and material research and development,
recently announced agreements with such companies as DuPont for
toothbrushes; leading fabric company Foss Manufacturing for synthetic
fibers and non-woven fabrics; Smith & Nephew for wound care; and
AK Steel for industrial and commercial steel products. Its
flagship product, HealthShield, is an advanced, highly effective
antimicrobial compound that can be used in the manufacturing of
biomedical, industrial and consumer goods. HealthShield(TM)
Technologies has its developmental center in Wakefield, MA and
offices in West Hartford and Westport, CT; Basel, Switzerland;
and San Palo, Brazil.

ProActive Process Improvement (PPI)
------------------------------------------------------------
In the years since Shewhart published his seminal book, The
Economic Control of the Quality of Manufactured Products,
there have been many applications both of his concepts and
subsequently developed advanced concepts. These techniques,
which have served a useful function in monitoring and
improving quality, are referred to as Statistical Process
Control (SPC).
The widespread use of microcomputers has helped bring
applications of these techniques directly to the factory
floor. But, efforts to date have been primarily in the area
of computerization for the individual tasks of SPC and
Design of Experiments (DOE). Little emphasis has been
placed on integration of these approaches into a system
that would allow monitoring, analysis and adjustments of
control variables to improve plant performance. Stochos
patent pending ProActive Process Improvement provides
complete integration of DOE and SPC to drive your process
to higher levels of performance.
WHAT'S NEW:
ProActive Process Improvement (PPI) is an integrated,
model-free, on-line, dynamic analysis system that ensures
improvement of the manufacturing process. The key ingredient
in PPI is its on-line ability to identify the important
few controllable factors for achieving higher quality output,
and to implement changes to these factors in a systematic
fashion to improve plant performance. The major issue is
the timely identification of the need to shift from one set
of control factors to another due to the impact of uncontrolled
factors.
PPI will enable greater improvements in the performance of
manufacturing operations than those experienced thus far.
Such a system has the potential for greatly improving the
competitive position of your firm as it faces ever-stronger
competition in the global marketplace.
The PPI package combines a Sun workstation with Solaris O/S,
Informix SE and Stochos software to provide a robust solution
to process performance tasks.
PPI is an integrated, on-line, dynamic analysis system that
insures improvement of the manufacturing process.
Stochos was established in 1968 with the mission of providing
leading edge computerized systems that focus on improving the
quality of the manufacturing processes. Stochos has developed
and sells SPC data analysis software Custom/QC (off-line SPC),
SPC Direct (on-line SPC) and Quality Management Database
Systems (QMDS). The QMDS provides for complete factory floor
data collection, analysis, and reporting. SPC, Document Control,
Closed Loop Corrective Action, Calibration Log are just a few
of many components in this integrated system. The QMDS
provides complete automation of the paperwork required for
certification programs such as ISO9000.

products, to inquire about our statistical training courses

Mr. Sacks wants to make chlorine chloride:
Does anybody know what types of machinery are required to
produce Chlorine Chloride? I know there are two types of CC,
dry and aqueous. I know the dry type requires a hammer mill,
dryer, cooler, and sizer. I do not know what types. I need
to know the specific types of machinery (brand name and
model number is very helpful) to produce approximately 2800
kgs/hr of dry Chlorine Chloride. I do not know what type of
equipment is required to produce aqueous CC.
Any information available on this would be greatly
appreciated. Types of machinery or processes would be
helpful as well.
Thanks!
