Major Thai Coal Mine

Sandvik Wins Major Mining Equipment Order in Thailand

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2001--Sandvik's Mining and Construction business area, through Sandvik Materials Handling, has won a major order for the development, supply and installation of a complete materials-handling system at the Mae Moh coal mine in northern Thailand.

Click HereThe customer is the Italian-Thai Development Public Company Ltd (ITD). The total value of the order is approximately SEK 430 M. The installation is scheduled to be placed in operation in April 2002.

ITD is one of the largest companies in its industry in Thailand. The equipment ordered, which includes crushers and conveyor systems, will be used to remove a total of 500 million cubic meters of overburden at the mine during the next nine years.

"This order involves one of the largest systems of its type in the world, with a capacity of 22,000 tons an hour. This demonstrates our very strong competitive position and our leadership in this area," says Jarmo Juntunen, President of Sandvik Materials Handling.

Talk to Your Feeders

K-Tron Introduces Wireless Feeder Control

PITMAN, NJ (May 22, 2001)—Utilizing off-the-shelf hardware, K-Tron SmartConnex feeder controls can use both infrared and radio frequency technology for wireless communication with gravimetric feeders. At the Powder and Bulk Solids Trade show in Chicago, May 8-10, trade show visitors witnessed the ability to monitor feeder controls via a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or laptop computer.

Click HereThree Ethernet networked K-Tron loss-in-weight feeders with Smart Control Modules (SCM) communicated to two K-Tron Smart Commander (KSC) operator interfaces. While one KSC was hard wired to the Ethernet, the other KSC residing on a laptop computer communicated with a wireless link using radio frequency technology.

K-Tron also used PDA’s to demonstrate feeder communication via the Infrared port on the feeder’s SCM. Typical uses for such wireless applications in a processing plant include monitoring operation, changing feed rate, troubleshooting at the feeder when controls are mounted in a remote location or downloading software. Use of wireless technology is quickly becoming commonplace in today’s modern processing plant.

Reduced Cycle Times

More Benefits From Latest Portasilo Superflo Systems

The latest Portasilo Superflo dense phase pneumatic conveying system incorporates a unique on-line airflow monitoring feature and in-built blending capability to enhance and extend the benefits of this well proven system which is widely used in process industry.

Click HereBenefiting from over 45 years' experience in the pneumatic conveying of powders, the latest Portasilo Superflo systems combine this knowledge and expertise in a product that is robust, efficient and versatile.

New features include the on-line air flow monitoring feature, now fitted as standard on all models. This constantly optimizes the conveying parameters throughout the whole of the conveying cycle. This in turn leads to a greater tolerance to material variation and increased overall product throughput for multi-point distribution systems.

The Portasilo Superflo vessel can be utilized as a batch weigh hopper for multi-ingredient weighing. Materials being weighed can be of widely differing particle sizes and characteristics. These can then be blended within the vessel using the in-built fluidization system, prior to being conveyed into process.

This blending feature has proved to be so successful and reliable that for some materials down stream mixing is not required, leading to significant reductions in overall project costs.

The Portasilo Superflo dense phase pneumatic conveying system operates using the large vessel principle, which ensures that cycle times are greatly reduced. This philosophy reduces maintenance requirements while at the same time ensuring total control of the conveying circle. Design life is in excess of 1,5000,000 cycles. This represents, typically, 30 years' service in normal operating conditions, making the Portasilo Superflo system a truly 'fit and forget' product.

The Portasilo Superflo system is manufactured in both Stainless and Mild Steels and is suitable for operation in many industries, including food manufacture, chemicals, environmental services and building products. The system is capable of handling either a single material or a blend of materials over a range of 350 meters, at a rate of up to 100 tph.

Mr. Llanos needs help drying gypsum:

We need to dry a phospho-gypsum filter cake (30% free moisture, 50 microns size) down to 2-3% free moisture. An indirect-type dryer is preferred in order to reduce dust emissions.  Saturated steam is available at 150,190 y 280 degrees C. Can anyone advise on the best indirect dryer type for this application? Will highly appreciate your help.

Mr. Kraanen wants a better dosing feeder:

We are looking for a way to dose ceramic powder in quantities of 2.05gms +/-0.03gms. The way we are achieving this now (manually and with vibratory feeders) are time consuming, inaccurate and wasteful.

Volumetric dosing does not work, because of the inconsistent properties of the powder (comparable to powder sugar), for example with changing humidity. Screw feeders may be difficult, since the ceramic powder causes a lot of wear, and it may not be contaminated in any way.

The dosing unit should be small and easy to clean/change (starting from 50 per batch, about 5000 per day) and could work as standalone or integrated in a production line.

Any suggestions regarding working principle or manufacturers are welcome.
