PMMI Reports February Business
Conditions Remain Strong
ARLINGTON, Va., March 7 /PRNewswire/
-- The packaging machinery sector continued a pattern of strength
during February according to the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers
Institute's Business Conditions Index (BCI). All four of the indices
dropped slightly for the month, but remained above 50, the index
level indicating expansion or growth. General Business Conditions
fell 3.4 points to 57.1; Quotations dropped 0.4 points to 59.6;
Shipments dropped 0.8 points to 52.5; and New Orders fell 2.7 points
to 59 points.
"This
is the second straight month we have seen the all of the measures
stay above 50 points, says Charles D. Yuska, president of PMMI.
"The index continues to show consumer and industrial companies
are identifying, researching and purchasing capital equipment."
An index of more than 50 indicates an
expansion in the period and an index below 50 indicates a slowdown
in activity. The February BCI tabulates the input of approximately
100 of PMMI's 500 PMMI member companies. The BCI is based on PMMI's
"How's Business" survey, a weekly poll of member
companies. PMMI's Business Conditions Index (BCI) collects data on
four business indicators: general business conditions, new orders,
shipments and quotations/proposal activity on a weekly basis.
Packaging machinery sales, quotation
activity, new orders as well as general business conditions are
leading indicators for consumer goods companies' consumer
confidence. If consumer products companies believe that demand will
weaken, they tend to not invest in new capital equipment. If,
however, they feel demand will pick up, they tend to invest in
machinery that will bring their products to market quickly and
efficiently.
The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers
Institute (PMMI) is a trade association whose 499 members
manufacture packaging and packaging-related converting machinery in
the United States and Canada. For more information on PMMI, visit http://www.pmmi.org/

Low
Speed Unit
New Delumper-Crusher Reduces Fines
Livingston, NJ -- The new DELUMPER
Model DC2020L features a seamless, stainless steel body, a 20"
x 20" inlet and discharge opening and wide mounting flanges for
easy connection to systems or hoppers. This straight thru unit is
easily installed and quickly goes to work reducing high volumes of
agglomerates and lumps to a free-flow condition.
The
Delumper 2020L utilizes specially designed teeth mounted on a smooth
rotating drum which intermesh with sizing combs. Solids are reduced
to their basic grain size without overgrind, heat rise or fines.
Lumps up to the full inlet opening size can be processed. The unit
runs at low speed and creates little vibration or noise.
Other features include a rigid, dust
tight and heavily constructed one-piece stainless steel body, shaft
seals, heavy tapered roller bearings, convenient belt or direct
drive and individually replaceable teeth. Options include outboard
mounted bearing, packing or other seal systems, hardfacing, sanitary
finishes as well as controls and full system integration.
The Delumper 2020L is part of a full
range of models designed to meet a variety of capacity requirements
and process a wide range of materials. In thousands of installations
they have proven their dependability and long life. Each unit is
precisely built, assembled, balanced and aligned to exacting
standards for smooth, reliable operation.

Broomall, PA -- The
Handbook Of Crushing, 2002 edition, is available for free on a
CD-ROM. This fully illustrated, fully updated 42-page handbook
provides an overview of mechanical reduction methods, a checklist of
crusher selection criteria, and an application analysis guide to the
specifications needed for crusher selection and sizing.
Unique
in the industry, the Handbook Of Crushing is regarded as a basic
reference on crushing among power plants, prep plants, mines, cement
plants, process industries, quarries, and wherever minerals or other
materials require size reduction.
It also includes
chapters on crushing tests, how to take samples, an index of
abrasiveness, definitions of material characteristics, power
requirements, closed-circuit crushing, and crusher hammer
technology.
Other sections describe
all 26 crusher models and the Posimetric feeders offered by
Pennsylvania Crusher, plus a pictorial tour of the firm's
manufacturing and rebuild facilities, engineering, test lab,
application engineering group and other departments.
Pennsylvania Crusher
produces more types of crushers - and in more sizes - than any other
manufacturer. The company has pioneered numerous innovations in
crusher technology that are in wide use today. About half of the
steam coal used in the US power generation industry is crushed by a
Pennsylvania crusher, and the firm's equipment is used worldwide.
