CEMA : Conveyor Industry Sees
Continuing Growth in 2004
NAPLES, FLORIDA –- The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers
Association (CEMA) reports that 2004 new orders were up for
the conveyor industry for the second consecutive year. CEMA
estimates that new orders totaled $5.1 billion for 2004,
which represents a 5.7% increase over 2003. New orders
outpaced shipments by 15.3% in 2004. CEMA President, James
Lamb, announced the results at the Association’s annual
meeting in Palm Springs, California, in March.

CEMA
tracks new orders and shipped sales volume in seven classes
of unit handling equipment and five classes of bulk handling
equipment. The graph shown plots monthly order and sales
trends from reporting CEMA member companies from January
2003, through December 2004.
The
executives representing CEMA member companies who attended
the annual meeting were pleased to see an increase in orders
in 2004, and have seen the trend continue into 2005 so far.
Founded in 1933, CEMA is the trade association of leading
North American conveyor equipment manufacturers and
engineering firms.
CEMA
has available for purchase the new 6th Edition of “The Belt
Book” – Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials. This book is the
authoritative technical manual for bulk belt conveyor design
worldwide. CEMA also makes available safety labels for all
types of conveyor equipment as well as useful technical
information and manuals.

Haver & Boecker : 1000 Seal
Spouts Sold
Oelde,
Germany -- By selling recently the 1000th spout, Haver &
Boecker looks back on a successful marketing of the sealing
technique consisting of the ultrasonic sealing system for
tightly sealed valve bags.
This
goal was reached when receiving an order from the company
Chimiques Cloquette Grouting Products in Belgium for a fully
automatic INTEGRA filling plant with two filling spouts. The
company Cloquette, specialized in dry grouting mortars, has
been using machines from Haver & Boecker with ultrasonic
sealing systems to its entire satisfaction for a longer
time.
The
sealing technique became generally accepted when
successfully filling bulk materials into paper valve bags,
in particular when filling building material products. The
advantages of the ultrasonic sealing device are unbeatable:
-A
clean filling process and a perfectly sealed packing
guaranteeing the optimal effect of clean bags upon selling
-No need for a complex spillage return system
-Improvement of the job conditions by the reduction of the
dust accumulation and therefore in the broader sense making
a contribution to the environmental protection
-No product loss during transport and storage
-An ideal condition for the selling of such products in
do-it-yourself markets
Finally, also the ultimate consumer benefits from the
application of this technique, nevertheless it assures him a
clean and dust-free transport of the products.
The
sealing system is not only used for rotating and stationary
new machines but it can be also retrofitted to the existing
HAVER-filling machines.

Novaflex : Extruded Thermo-Plastic Urethane Vacuum Hose
Richmond
Hill, ONT -- The Novaflex Group is proud to announce the
availability of a new TPU VAC Hose specifically designed
for material handling of abrasive media under vacuum.
The TPU VAC Hose is a lightweight, flexible alternative
to heavy-walled PVC and offers excellent abrasion
resistance.
Novaflex’s TPU VAC Hose
product features include; all-weather construction -
resistant to ozone attack, polyurethane wall for
superior abrasion resistance and light weight, smooth
inner tube for maximum product flow, external wear strip
which prevents damage from abrasion, resistant to salt
for underwater applications including aquaculture and
most importantly, heavy-duty construction for full
vacuum.
Hoses typically used in these
applications are constructed of PVC or rubber - with
their bulky, awkward properties and heavy weight, making
for difficult handling in the field.
Advantages of Thermo-Plastic
Urethane include; excellent abrasion resistance, light
weight, outstanding low temperature performance,
excellent mechanical properties, high tear strength and
elasticity – similar to rubber, high transparency, as
well as good oil and grease resistance.
Novaflex’s TPU VAC Hose is
available in sizes ranging from 4” to 8”, with larger
sizes available upon request. Operating temperature
range from -50°F to 200°F. Rated for full vacuum.
About The Novaflex Group
The Novaflex Group, founded
in 1977, is a privately owned North American designer
and manufacturer of hose and duct products to industry
for the movement of air, liquid and materials.
Throughout their twenty-five year history, Novaflex has
earned a reputation for providing innovative and high
quality products for industrial venting and duct
systems.

Mr. Jenkins wants to bag glass
dust:
Can anyone recommend a
manufacture of valve bags that can supply me with the bags
and the equipment needed to fill the bags. The product is
glass dust with a density of approximately 80 lb/ft3 and the
size is between 140 US mesh and 325 US mesh.

Mr. Miller needs a silo level
display:
I am looking for a cheap
visual aid for showing levels in grain silos. I have heard
of pressure sensitive pads that can be placed on the outside
of the silo that change color when grain is present on the
inside.
Does any one have any
knowledge of such things, know of a supplier or have any
other suggestions. (Click

Primus - The Best In Class
For Cleaning Grains
Large sieve surface areas are
efficient! They are needed to separate sand and fine
impurities while handling high throughputs, even in
processing difficult materials such as brewing malt. To
produce top-class malt, the best approach is to apply
the unsurpassed high-capacity cleaning technology from

This weeks photo
is of Scott Owens of Chemtrusion, a plastic compounding
company located in Texas in front of some K-Tron feeders.
Because Chemtrusion does a lot of specialty compounding,
often with short runs, the flexibility of K-Tron's modular
feeders has worked well for his plant.
