Jacksonville Beach, FL -- We are pleased to announce that Volkmann, Inc. has become a sponsor of Powder and Bulk Dot Com.

Volkmann GmbH, the parent company of Volkmann, Inc., was founded in 1973 as a consulting firm for automation and economical production. Since 1979 Volkmann have built up its own innovative product range in the field of vacuum technology. Many inventions, protected by patents, confirmed Volkmann to be a leading manufacturer of vacuum conveyors, vacuum pumps and vacuum components.

"ATEX Certified Vacuum Conveying"

The transport of all types bulk materials has never been easier, more user-friendly and safe as with Volkmann's proven line of vacuum conveyors. Volkmann vacuum conveyors offer gentle handling and dust-free loading while maintaining the integrity of your product mixtures. Their vacuum conveyors are designed for use the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries.

Volkmann vacuum conveyors and transfer systems are designed to transport powders, dust, pigments, granulated material and tablets throughout your plant. Their VR and PPC vacuum conveyors are ATEX certified according EC Guidelines for the Explosion Zones. This allows critical materials to be conveyed safely and special conveyors can be used for hazardous applications like inside explosion areas or with highly toxic materials.

The company's Multijectoren Vacuum Pumps are optimally designed for the repetitive applications since vacuum is builds up immediately upon switching on the pump. In addition, in continuous mode they offer an outstanding high energy output compared to other pneumatically operated pumps due to the highly developed multiple-stage nozzle system. An energy comparison to other vacuum pump systems is worthwhile!

Safer Industrial Nano Particle Production

Soeborg, Denmark -- GEA Niro, a technology center in GEA Process Engineering, has helped to solve the problem of how nanotechnology can be used industrially, taking into account health, safety and environmental protection. A team from the company has developed a method that makes it possible to bind suspended nanoparticles in a granular form to minimize the risk of handling particles. This makes it possible to produce finished products that exploit the extraordinary properties found in nano-structured materials in a safe environment.

The work has been done within the framework of the EU-funded development project "SAPHIR - Safe & Controlled Integrated Production of High-tech Multifunctional Materials and their Recycling", http://www.saphir-project.eu/ . By using nano technology industrialists hope to develop a wide range of innovative products including: car windows that don’t steam up; paint and dyed substances that don’t fade when exposed to light; fabrics that reject dirt and stains; and super-high-strength, lightweight industrial components.

The project aims to develop new methods of production and use of nanoparticles to manufacture of a wide range of products based on their characteristics and advantages. The SAPHIR project requires nanoparticles to be used in controlled processes, without exposing people to health risks or damaging the environment. It includes 22 partners who together and separately are working to produce products that exploit the properties of nanoparticles.

Michael Wahlberg is the head of the GEA Process Engineering Test and Development Centre. "Our goal in GEA Process Engineering in participating in this research and development project from the outset, was to utilize and further develop our proven technology in spray drying to produce granules that bind nanoparticles,” he said. “Preliminary results confirmed our own expectations. Our technology makes it possible to produce non-dusty granules in a very safe manufacturing process.”

With GEA Process Engineering's new method nanoparticles will become safer and easier to handle. Industry can expect to see a range of innovative products for both businesses and consumers. In all likelihood, the new granulation technique will find its greatest uses in contexts where a liquid form is not appropriate. For example, there will be opportunities for automakers, aircraft manufacturers and other industries where the correlation between strength and weight balance is critical.

GEA Process Engineering’s involvement in the SAPHIR project has built on its process industry expertise in many sectors (chemistry, pharmaceutical, beverage and food, etc.). The technology used for immobilizing nanoparticles is inspired by the drying technology used by GEA Process Engineering for the granulation of pigments and carbide powder.

Until now handling nanoparticles in a manufacturing process has been a problem because the particles are difficult to control. In their dry form the nanoparticles have a low density, are electrostatic, and have airborne and surface properties that make them difficult to use on an industrial scale. Also their impact on health and the environment are unknown so it’s been necessary to bind them into a liquid form for industrial use or storage.

In many cases it is not possible to produce finished goods based on suspended nanoparticles. By binding nanoparticles into stable granules it is possible to control them in subsequent production processes. The new method creates granules with very stable and controlled properties that allows granulated nanoparticles to be used directly in industrial production (see the attached diagram). It has been a key success criteria for researchers that nanoparticles, bound in a granular form, retain their specific properties, while remaining immobile.

Mr. Gec needs help offloading PTA from tank trucks:

As the attached picture shows (see post), there is a 2-meter gap between the tank outlet and the inlet of the pipe chain conveyor. The material is PTA and the pipe chain conveyor capacity is 50t/hr.

What equipment do we need to provide smooth gravity flow into the pipe chain conveyor?  Any suggestion welcomed.

Thanks,
Mr. S. Gec

From the Job Fair

Director of Sales and New Business Development

Engineer with sales experience to develop new customers and support existing customers for use of our powdered metal in the medical and depositional (LASER & EB) for aerospace/defense. Using a proprietary process we manufacture fine and ultra fine powdered metals already selling to most medical device use and many aerospace companies in the US and internationally with an almost 40 year history of providing quality product. We are the only manufactures using this process and produce the most pure, nonporous and spherical powders.

Your position would primarily be developing a new customer base and occasionally contacting existing customers. Compensation would be based on salary and commission that would produce a six figure income with full benefits. We are looking to fill this position by the end of February and have already reviewed quite a number of resumes.

The successful candidate would receive complete training and introduction to existing customers who are primarily fortune 100 companies.  This is a great mid-level position for someone eager to develop a long-term career in sales and rapidly advance to a management position. Experience in nonferrous metal powder a plus.
