Whatever your dust collection needs or problems, let Hendee
Enterprises be your solution. Our philosophy is to provide
excellent quality, competitive pricing, fast response and

Smoot Company Purchased by Taylor Holdings
------------------------------------------------------------
Taylor Holdings, Inc. has recently purchased all of the stock
of the Smoot Company, Inc., Kansas City, Kansas, from the owner
David K. Smoot. The Smoot Company designs and manufactures
dense and dilute phase pneumatic conveying systems and components
for bulk material handling, and supplies a full line of pneumatic
system ancillary equipment. The company, founded by David Smoot
in 1960, now employs approximately 75 persons and owns a 125,000
square foot office/manufacturing facility in Kansas City, Kansas.
Mr. Smoot will remain with the Company in a consulting capacity.
Taylor Holdings, Inc., of Parsons, Kansas represents a group of
investors who own the assets of Taylor Products Co., Inc. of
Parsons, Kansas, The Smoot Company, Inc. of Kansas City, Kansas,
and Avatar Packaging Systems, Inc., of Decatur, Alabama.
The CEO of Taylor Holdings, Mike McReynolds, made the following
comments on the Smoot acquisition and Taylor Holdings'
expanded mission, "Combining the companies' expertise, which
includes material management, packaging, and process controls,
will allow us to deliver the equipment and services necessary to
properly serve our common markets. Markets that are actively
reducing suppliers by selecting vendors with a higher level of
single source expertise. This trend provides our combined business
entity with leadership opportunities to engineer a variety of
material handling and packaging systems. We feel that the integration
of these companies will strengthen our core competencies and
reinforce our goal of providing world class systems for moving,
measuring and packaging systems designed and engineered specifically
for our customers."
Each of the product segment groups, packaging and pneumatic
conveying, will retain the autonomy to continue independent
alliances in distribution and customer relations. Increased
financial and personnel resources will accelerate product
development and market expansion. Alternate construction methods
and materials, such as sanitary stainless steel, will broaden
component applications and markets. Maximum economic advantages
will be achieved by selecting the manufacturing facility best
suited for the fabrication process.
A technical resource group will be formed to bundle the product
lines of Taylor, Smoot and Avatar with available buy/resale
components offering customers seamless single source solutions
and accountability. New systems will allow customers to capture
material management data for analysis giving them competitive
advantages by improving their production efficiencies. The
technical resource group will expand test facilities to include
all manufactured components, commonly contracted elements, and
state-of-the-art performance recording and reporting capabilities.
This technical group will enlarge and coordinate E-marketing and
international sales efforts.

Mr. McCluskey needs to repair butterfly valves:
We at Astra Zeneca utilize Gemco Stainless Steel Large Hoppers
for dry chemical weighing and charging. These Hoppers are 15-18
years old and they have a Serial # V-79833. The butterfly valve
on one of the units is leaking due to scoring of the metal. We
do not have equipment to resurface and keep the valve perfectly
round. We would like to have it repaired or, buy a new one.

Mr. Cole is looking for information on wood dust incendivity:
I'm looking for information on woodworking dust incentivity, and
I am hoping someone can help me. This is a hot button topic on
many woodworking forums now that many people have dust collection
systems in their home shops. In particular, many people use PVC
pipe which can lead to electrostatic discharge. I am attempting
to write an article on this topic and have a number of general
resources regarding electrostatic discharge hazards when handling
dusts. I do not have any information directly related to wood dust.
Any information would be appreciated, but I have three particular
questions related to the issue of whether or not home shop
equipment can make the volume, 500 to 1000 CFM, of fine dust
that is an explosion hazard.
1. Under worst case conditions, e.g. static suspended dust, what
are the upper and lower explosive limits for the concentration
of the dust-air mix?
2. What is the concentration and particle size that is easiest
to ignite, and what is the minimum ignition energy?
3. What particulate sizes are generated from typical home shop
equipment? Say a 10 inch table saw and a 16 inch drum sander?
Firm numbers and a reference to go with them would be best, but
even approximate numbers would be much appreciated.
Feel free to email me directly.

Rod Cole
