Sanitary Rotary Batch Mixer Blends Uniformly

UTICA, NY -- A new Model 700-TH-40-SS Sanitary Rotary Batch Mixer gently blends batches of ingredients in parts as small as one per million with 100% uniformity in less than three minutes, evacuates 100% of the batch, and can be sanitized rapidly with no tools.

The unit is designed with a retractable inlet for rapid, thorough washdown, a stationary discharge, and a rotating drum with proprietary mixing flights that tumble, turn and fold material gently, imparting minimal energy to the batch while reportedly achieving 100 percent uniformity in two to three minutes, regardless of disparities in the bulk densities, particle sizes or flow characteristics of batch ingredients.

The mixer has a useable batch capacity of 40 cu ft (1.132 cu m), total capacity of 80 cu ft (2.27 cu m) and weight capacity of 4000 lbs (1814 kg), and is said to be equally effective in blending of batches from 100 down to 5 percent of rated capacity.

Intended for 3-A and USDA applications as well as industrial applications involving contamination-sensitive materials and/or frequent product changeovers, the unit features internal mixing flights that are spaced for easy access, all-stainless contact surfaces, continuous, polished welds having 0.25 in. (6 mm) radii, external, removable seals and a CIP vessel cleaning nozzle.

The mixer is also equipped with a spray line for liquid additions.

Unlike stationary mixing vessels that leave a residual “heal” of material after discharge, the rotating vessel and internal flights of the rotary mixer reportedly lift and direct the entire batch into the discharge spout for complete evacuation with no residual material or manual intervention, improving product quality and process control while facilitating rapid, thorough cleaning.

The company also offers Rotary Batch Mixers in carbon steel, or stainless steel with industrial finish, in capacities from 10 to 600 cu ft (0.28 to 17 cu m), as well as Continuous Rotary Blenders, High Intensity Blenders, Forberg Mixers, and Ribbon, Paddle and Plow Blenders. Size reduction equipment produced by the company includes Screen Classifying Cutters, Centrifugal Impact Mills, Rotary De-Clumpers, Attrition Mills, Hammer Mills and Shredders.

Consultancy Service for Particulate Processors

Malvern, UK -- Malvern Instruments has launched a new consultancy service designed specifically to meet the requirements of the process industries. The service is aimed at helping manufacturers to better understand and optimize particulate processing operations.

The 5-day consultancy package is built around Malvern’s Insitec Voyager, a fully automated, mobile on-line particle size analyzer. This is installed at the client’s site and is fully supported throughout by a Malvern process specialist.

A typical program involves: installation and optimization of sampling; measurement of the current status of the process; running defined test programs; and the generation of comprehensive reports. The aims include finding the best parameters for process control, and testing sensitivity to process change. There is an option to rent or buy the Insitec Voyager system after completion of the study.

As part of the consultancy process, clients also have the opportunity to assess the need for permanent installation of on-line particle size analysis and to determine the optimal set-up required. Where a permanent on-line analysis solution is selected as a result of the study, then much of the preliminary testing and analysis normally required will already have been completed. This makes installation and commissioning rapid and very straightforward, resulting in a much faster return on investment.

Full details are available through your local Malvern organization, visit our web site at: http://www.malvern.com/Malvern

"Ultrasonex" Screen Blinding Control System

CINCINNATI, OH -- The Ultrasonex™ Blinding Control System from Rotex, Inc. is a field proven system for reducing blinding and bridging when screening difficult or sticky materials such as metal powders, powder paints, pharmaceuticals, powder coatings, plastic resins, toner powder, food, and various chemicals. It is available on new screeners from Rotex, and can be field retrofitted to existing Rotex® Screeners.

The system is capable of screening through meshes as fine as 20µm at unusually high capacity and efficiency. By minimizing mesh blinding and bridging, the Ultrasonex System ensures that powders are screened through the correct aperture size required, providing accurate separations, higher throughput, consistent product quality, and longer mesh life.

The system uses a transducer probe to apply ultrasonic vibration directly to the screening mesh. This is in addition to the vibratory motion of the Rotex Screener. The Ultrasonex provides a secondary high frequency, low amplitude vibration that reduces mesh blinding, reduces screen tension, and improves screener performance.

Its fully detachable ultrasonic probe incorporates a titanium core for high durability and non-wear on contact surfaces. In combination with mesh cleaning balls, the Rotex Ultrasonex is more efficient and effective than round separators using ultrasonic technology.

Freedom from blinding also eliminates the need for scrapers, brushes or rubber balls that can introduce contamination.

The Ultrasonex System’s highly efficient control unit is available in 110 or 220 volts, with touch panel controls that enable many of the settings to be easily adjusted by the operator for optimal performance.

Ms. Beck wants a "vac pan" for unloading railcars:

Does anyone have plans for a "vac pan" that would attach to the bottom of the hopper on a railroad car which would make vacuuming sugar easier.

We have a hard time with the sugar getting stuck when using the standard process. Any ideas?  (to post reply, click here)

Thanks,

Matthew needs help with sea port management:

I'm looking for any information about management structure in sea port.

First of all I need different models of the administrative system.  So I'd like to ask what kinds of port management exists in the world and how does planning of technical and dock labor perform.

I am asking you this question because main task in my company is to rebuild management structure to avoid duplicate functions and to separate business processes.  Main idea is to combine into one management department all docks staff.

This is very difficult for me to believe in and understand any ideas differing from system that was traditional for a long time.  This is a reason that I try to find practical and time-proved decisions in this matter. (to post reply, click here)

Thank you,
Matthew
