Alabama : Loesche America Sells
Clinker Grinding Mill
Pembroke
Pines, FL -- National Cement Company, Inc. has contracted
with Loesche America, Inc. to install a clinker grinding
mill (LM 56.3 + 3) along with all auxiliary equipment at
their cement plant in Ragland, Alabama.
This
project is part of the plant's modernization program to
increase the finish grinding capacity from 1 million tph to
1.5 million tph. The awarding of this contract reflects the
company's confidence in Loesche's state-of-the-art mill
technology and engineering services. Loesche America, Inc.
has been servicing the Ragland Plant since the mid 1970s
when the Loesche raw mill LM 32.4 was installed.
This
system will not only allow the plant to increase the
existing clinker grinding capacity but also to improve the
overall efficiency of the plant and to reduce the specific
power consumption.
This
solution is another example of National Cement Company‚s
commitment to quality which is evident by the constant
modernizations and acquisitions implemented since the
company was purchased by Vicat in 1974.
Loesche America, Inc. is a subsidiary of Loesche GmbH,
located in Dusseldorf, Germany. The company is an
international market leader in vertical roller mills used
for drying and grinding in the coal, cement, lime, minerals

Falk : Soft Start, Soft Stop & Holdback for Belt
Conveyors
Milwaukee,
WI -- Falk's NEW True Torque™ Fluid Coupling
incorporates a brake disc into the fluid coupling
mounting arrangement. The result is an economical, space
saving package. When starting an inclined belt conveyor,
the fluid coupling provides a soft start, thereby
eliminating belt liftoff and belt stretch. During
shutdown, application of the brake decelerates the
conveyor belt and prevents conveyor rollback. Falk also
offers the complete line of Svendborg caliper disc brake
packages.
True Torque™ Fluid Couplings
with double delay chamber can achieve 40 second starting
profiles, while limiting torque to 120% of nominal load.
Adjustable metering orifices regulate the passage of
fluid from the delay chamber into the working circuit.
Startup characteristics of the fluid coupling are easily
field adjusted, simply add or drain fluid to accommodate
site variables. A fill angle finder is furnished with
each coupling.
Where multiple motors drive a
single belt conveyor, install a True Torque™ Fluid
Coupling at each motor. Precise adjustment of fluid fill
at each coupling achieves optimum load sharing. With
fluid couplings present, multiple motors can be started
in a timed succession, providing further soft start, and
reducing the demand on electrical systems.
Two brake disc mounting
arrangements are offered. Gear coupling mounting is most
economical. The disc coupling mounting allows high speed
at high HP, and requires no lubrication.
The Milwaukee, WI based Falk
Corporation offers drive systems, gear drives,
gearmotors, shaft couplings, fluid couplings, coupling
guards, ring gears, and steel castings in mining, metal
processing, pulp and paper, cement, aggregates, chemical
processing, utilities, transportation, and food
processing.

Mr. Laforest wants recover
metal from FIBCs:
We process about 40,000 FIBCs
per year (~120/day). I'm trying to develop ideas for
improving the recoveries of material left in the bag after
we discharge it. The material has some value of course.
I want to recycle the bag.
Not for just to re-use but for sending to a polymer
recycling plant. I have a few design options. Does anyone
know of any equipment out there that could do this?

Mr. Frylich needs help with
size calibration:
We are using
online and of line particle analyzer for particles from 100
to 5000 micron. From time to time we are changing the spec
of the product. We are correlating the results of the
analyzer to sieve test.
Is there any
know procedure for checking the correlation OD the sieve to
the analyzer? (Click

This weeks photo
is of Scott Owens of Chemtrusion, a plastic compounding
company located in Texas in front of some K-Tron feeders.
Because Chemtrusion does a lot of specialty compounding,
often with short runs, the flexibility of K-Tron's modular
feeders has worked well for his plant.
