Haver's New Bulk Density Tester
Oelde,
Germany -- Exact knowledge of a product’s properties is a
prerequisite for offering the customer the most optimum
machine with a satisfactory packing speed. Every day the
experts of the Haver & Boecker Research & Development Center
use various test instruments to acquire fundamental
knowledge of a product’s properties, or the product
packaging to be used. The Haver Bulk Density Tester is such
an instrument.
The
bulk density is used during the production process for
checking the material’s structural uniformity. The bulk
density of a flowable powder-type, granular or
short-fibrous, bulk material is determined by measuring the
mass of an exact known volume under specified conditions.
In
Germany alone there are approximately 20 known norms for
determining the bulk density of an individual product. With
the Haver Bulk Density Tester, the bulk density of all
powder-type and granular shaped substances can be
determined, even if it contains clumps.
The
Haver Bulk Density Tester is just one of an entire series
test instruments that Haver & Boecker has developed for use
in laboratories. It is also an appropriate method for
customers or university laboratories to use for determining
product specific properties and data.
Other
Haver test instruments include the Airflow Tester, the "Big
Gurly", the Trickle Tester and the Air-Escape measuring
instrument.

Bulkflow changes name to Solex
Thermal Science
CALGARY,
CANADA -- A new corporate name and brand identity, Solex
Thermal Science, will be unveiled by Bulkflow Technologies
Ltd. at the ‘Powder Show’ section of the Process Technology
Expo International Exhibition (PTXi) at the Donald E.
Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois on May 6-8,
2008, Booth #2511.
According to the company, the new corporate name will more
accurately reflect the position of the company in the market
and add value and strength to the brand.
Specialists in the science of heating, cooling and drying
free flowing bulk solids, Bulkflow Technologies, will have a
working model of a Heat Exchanger at Booth #2511. The free
demonstration will show the principles of the science and
explain how the technology works. Handout material on the
numerous benefits of the technology will also be available.
The
Heat Exchanger, a sophisticated combination of the two
sciences of indirect heat transfer and the mass flow of bulk
solids, is designed for indirect heating and cooling of free
flowing powders and bulk solids.
About
the Heat Exchanger
The
Bulkflow Heat Exchanger consists of a series of several
closely spaced, hollow fully welded heat exchanger plates.
Product moves slowly by gravity between the plates in mass
flow. Cooling or heating media circulates internally between
the plates’ dimples and counter-current to product flow for
higher thermal efficiency. A mass flow discharger controls
the product flow for higher thermal efficiency.
Unlike
many other types of bulk solid coolers, the system does not
require large volumes of air to operate and instead lets
gravity do the work to greatly reduce power consumption.
Each system is individualized to match the exact
manufacturing requirements of the customer so that it easily
integrates with existing equipment.
Other
benefits of the science include zero air emissions, high
thermal efficiency, low energy consumption, modular
construction for easy expansion, a compact design that fits
into tight spaces and lower installed capital cost. A gentle
improved product flow prevents product attrition, the
potential for caking in storage and improved packaging.
Bulkflow has more than 250 successful applications in more
than 30 countries worldwide. The company has numerous
applications in the chemical, fertilizer,
plastic and resin, polymer, detergent, catalyst, mineral,
grain, biosolid and food industry.
The
company has offices in the United States and subsidiary
operations in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and The
United Kingdom. It serves the Asian market through
strategically located dealers in numerous countries. It is
represented in Latin American by Ventura Process Equipment
Company with offices in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil,
Chile and Venezuela.

K-Tron and Premier to Exhibit at PTXi 2008
PITMAN,
NJ -- The K-Tron Process Group will exhibit several new
additions to the K-Tron Feeder and Premier Pneumatics
product line at PTXi 2008 (Powder and Bulk Solids Show),
May 6-8, 2008, Donald E. Stevens Convention Center,
Rosemont, Illinois, Booth 1328.
The recent addition of
Premier Pneumatics to the K-Tron Process Group greatly
expands K-Tron’s overall pneumatic conveying
capabilities to include continuous as well as vacuum
sequencing systems. New additions in booth 1328 include:
New Low Rate Micro Cone
Feeder
K-Tron Process Group will
introduce a new Micro Cone feeder, featuring a highly
innovative screw-less feeding mechanism that accurately
doses free flowing color, masterbatch or additives into
a blending system or directly in the process screw of an
extruder. Utilizing a simple induced flow rotating
tube/cone, the Micro Cone Feeder doses down to a few
granules at a time, with a feed rate range of 0.2 to 2
dm³/hr (0.007 to 0.07 cu ft).
With use of an extension tip,
the feeder can feed as low as 0.1 dm³. Minimum
dispersive rate is approximately 2 pellets per second.
With no pockets or screws, the design is simple,
providing ease of use and almost zero maintenance. The
feeder housing swings open for fast material change.
There are no areas for the product to trap, making
cleaning very easy.
New Continuous Gravimetric
Extrusion Control Software
K-Tron’s new extrusion
control package offers the ability to control the
extruder speed so that its output has a predictable and
repeatable mass flow. By accurately measuring material
throughput, gravimetric extrusion control can compensate
for material and process variations and provide more
consistent end product quality. It is primarily targeted
for use with single screw flood fed extruders in both
mono- and co-extrusion applications such as profile
extrusion, cast sheet, blown film, cable coating and
laminating.
Gravimetric extrusion control
is virtually a necessity for multi-layer co-extrusion
systems. Its benefits include exact control of end
product quality, significant savings in material costs,
highly accurate multi-layer co-extrusion of films,
longer production runs due to consistent extruder output
and the ability to detect problems before the product
goes out of specification.
New Premier Pneumatics
ProBlend Zone Blender
Premier Pneumatics introduces
its ProBlend Zone Blender for blending or homogenizing
free flowing bulk material within a hopper or silo. With
its special geometric shape, the compact and simple Zone
Blender provides multiple flow zones in which the
material can pass through at different velocities and
residence times. As a result, the discharged material
contains a uniformed blend of material from the hopper
or silo.
The Zone Blender uses a
combination of mass flow (first in – first out) with
funnel flow (last in – last out) to help homogenize the
blend and reduce the effect of segregation in
re-circulating, batch or continuous systems, or any
application requiring the blending of materials.

Paul wants to know what to do
with used FIBC's :
In our manufacturing process
our incoming material is maltodextrin which arrives in 800kg
FIBC's with a polyethylene inner lining and a polypropylene
outer.
At the moment we discard
these bags to waste which seems a shame, does anyone know of
another use for these bags as the current supplier doesn't
want them bag because they are slightly damaged.
Are there any alternative
uses for these FIBC's?
