IPIC 2003 Conference on Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Norwalk, CT, -- The four events of International Pharmaceutical Industry Congress--INTERPHEX, Pharma-IT Expo & Summit, Pharmaceutical Contract Services & Outsourcing Exposition and Conference, and Drug Science and Technology Summit-- will each feature a state-of-the-art conference program developed specifically for pharmaceutical industry professionals by the industry's most respected education providers.

"The unsurpassed expertise of our IPIC education providers enables us to deliver timely, in-depth content that will keep our attendees on the cutting edge of industry technologies and practices," stated Kevin Richards, Vice President of event producer Reed Exhibitions. "Conference content provides analysis of emerging technologies for research and development, as well as proven manufacturing techniques, innovative IT applications, and strategies for managing outsourcing relationships. There is something of real value for everyone involved in the discovery, development and manufacture of pharmaceuticals--from research scientists to process engineers, IT directors and even corporate management."

IPIC conferees can select from four prestigious educational programs designed to promote excellence, enhance technical skills, and help attendees advance their professional standing. The INTERPHEX conference, produced by ISPE, the Society of Life Science Professionals, will address manufacturing-related issues such as process technologies, packaging, validation, and FDA regulations. The Pharmaceutical Contract Services and Outsourcing Symposium, also produced by ISPE, will provide the skills needed to manage the outsourcing process.

"As the Society of choice for nearly 20,000 Life Science professionals, ISPE has already enjoyed a long -more- IPIC 2003 and productive partnership with Reed’s INTERPHEX events,” stated Jerry Roth, ISPE’s Vice President of Education. “Our new role as the official education provider for INTERPHEX and Pharmaceutical Contract Services & Outsourcing Expo is a natural outgrowth of our ongoing commitment to enhance industry practices by offering state-of-the-art technical education on topics of vital interest to Life Science industry professionals.”

The Pharma-IT Expo conference, produced by the Institute for International Research, will provide insights on the use of information technology to optimize pharmaceutical business and scientific processes.

“The pharmaceutical community has unique IT needs,” added Michelle Leberfeld, Conference Director for IIR’s Pharma-IT Summit. “The 2003 Pharma-IT educational program will support the developing leadership role of IT executives in every aspect of the pharmaceutical enterprise, as they strive to balance scientific progress, regulatory compliance and competitive business operations. By combining the successful Pharma-IT event, which showcases the available technology solutions, with IIR’s experience producing high-level events for pharmaceutical decision makers, we’ve created a strategic alliance that will benefit all participants.”

IPIC 2003 will be held March 31-April 2, 2003 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. By bringing the entire industry together under one roof, IPIC provides a broad, total industry perspective that makes attendees better informed, more productive on the job, and better equipped to master the complex challenges of a changing marketplace. The event also acts as a catalyst for strategic alliances, facilitates relationship building, offers cutting-edge education, opportunities for gathering market intelligence, and a forum for the exchange of ideas.

For information on attending or exhibiting at IPIC, visit www.pharmacongress.net or call 888-334-8704 or outside of the US, 203-840-5648.

Sanitary Features

K-Tron Now Offers Twelve 3-A Dairy Feeder Models

Click herePITMAN, NJ -- K-Tron America announced recently that 12 models of K-Tron Soder volumetric and gravimetric feeders now meet the requirements of the 3-A Dairy Sanitary Standard for auger-type feeders, Standard Number 81-00. The very high sanitary standards of the 3-A Symbol Council were originally designed for the dairy industry, but are broadly used by many manufacturers of ingestible products in the food and pharmaceutical industries. While the standard is an optional one, an increasing number of food and pharmaceutical manufacturers are requesting equipment that meets the 3A standard.

K-Tron's 3A feeder models add several additional sanitary features above those already incorporated into the standard K2-Modular feeders, which are constructed of 316 stainless steel, use FDA approved seals and offer product contact surfaces accessible for cleaning and inspection.

The K-Tron 3-A Dairy model features include No. 4 ground finish (150 grit), continuous smooth welds, radii that meet the 3A standards and gaskets and seals that meet the standard. K-Tron offers 3-A versions of all of the basic K2- Modular models and can therefore handle all feedrates and types of materials. The 3-A models include both single and twin-screw feeders as well as volumetric and loss-in-weight models.

Mr. Casey has problems with flooding material:

We have a 2,500 ton bolted tank for Portland Cement. The outlet at the base of the tank is 14". We have a slide gate at the base of the bin connected to a 20" screw. We need to achieve 100 tph through the screw to the Bucket elevator.

We are flooding the screw with about 300 tph. Any ideas? We have reduced our flights from 20' to 10' and have also added a shroud. Will a rotary valve work? We have limited headroom.
