Hopper Weighing Systems for Poultry Batching Operations
------------------------------------------------------------

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2001--GS-3000 hopper weighing
systems from Gainco, Inc., a subsidiary of Bettcher Industries,
Inc., offer heightened versatility and control for poultry
batching, weighing and distributing applications.

Completely engineered and built in the USA, these systems
provide a comprehensive range of hardware and software
configurations that can be applied easily to individual
processing requirements.

Designed and constructed in stainless steel for rugged,
dependable performance, weighing accuracy, and user-friendly
interfaces, Gainco hopper weighing systems are used for diverse
poultry industry applications, such as batching into vats or
totes, weighing/distributing fronts to multiple deboners, and
continuous weighing of product portions into or out of a
specific process.

The equipment can accommodate standard or bi-directional hopper
weighing capacities ranging from 10 lbs. to 500 lbs.

Other Gainco hopper system features include a battery-backed
memory for recording total number of dumps, total weight, and
setup parameters. Versatile controllers provide ease and
flexibility in program setup and operation, while "auto-zero"
software automatically adjusts for any product accumulation
on the hopper surfaces, assuring greater weighing accuracy.

A host PC can be connected to multiple hopper systems for
centralized reporting, setup control, and yield analysis.

With Gainco's hopper weighing systems, numerous configurations
are allowable, including a variety of distribution conveyors,
ceiling or floor-mounted installation options, product in-feed
conveyors managed by the controller on/off output signal, as
well as buffer hoppers mounted over the weigh hoppers to ensure
uninterrupted product flow.

Also available is Gainco's bi-directional weighing hopper model,
which allows fully programmable alternate filling of two
different sized containers (or containers of the same size)
automatically, accurately, and with minimal operator involvement.
The bi-directional operation improves productivity, along with
saving space by consolidating the functions of two conventional
hoppers or floor scales. Flexibility is also enhanced by
alternately filling boxes of varying sizes, according to
differing customer requirements. Whenever desired, these hoppers
are programmable to fill boxes of one side only.

For more information on Gainco's GS-3000 hopper weighing
systems, contact Jim Petersen at (770) 534-0703, e-mail your
request to info@gainco.com or visit http://www.gainco.com/.

Since 1984, Gainco, Inc. (formerly Gainesville Scales, Inc.)
has been a leader in the development of online electronic
weighing, sizing and distribution systems for the poultry
industry.

In addition to hopper weighing systems, whole bird sizing
and distribution systems, the company's comprehensive product
line includes in-motion portion sizing equipment, high-speed
sorting and counting systems for whole birds, fronts and
saddles, whole bird sizing and distribution systems, plus
bird counting systems.

Gainco systems and equipment are installed in the facilities
of all major U.S. poultry processing companies, as well as
overseas.

Rice Process Offering Extra Value
------------------------------------------------------------

The brown rice processing plant operated by Rijstpak NV in
Suriname offers crucial benefits over traditional rice milling
processes. Thanks to a final water polishing stage and color
sorting, the new mill adds extra value to the finished rice.

Suriname, located on the northeastern coast of South America
just north of the Amazon delta, abounds with natural resources.
Its lush tropical vegetation and its proximity to the Atlantic
provide excellent opportunities for trading and agriculture.
Rice is the staple food of the nearly 500,000 multi-cultural
population of the region. Production stands at about 0.25
million metric tons. Rice exports account for 30 to 40 percent
of the country’s total exports, giving a great impetus to the
development of rice industries. Rijstpak has an export share
of 25 percent in Suriname.

Relying on Buhler technology

Rijstpak NV successfully incorporated state-of-the-art rice
milling technology from the global Buhler Group in its
installation in Nieuw Nickerie, a town of about 30,000. From
there the rice can be exported directly to Europe and America.
The plant, commissioned and handed over in July 1999, was
built to enhance the quality of the rice produced in the
region. Three major varieties are processed: Alloni, Groveni
and Ferrini. These are all long-grain varieties, some of
which with a length of 7.5 to 9 millimeters have the longest
grains in the world on a white-rice basis. Other less known
varieties of shorter lengths are also cultivated and
processed.

Advanced technology additional product value

The brown rice is fed to the new mill at a rate of five
metric tons per hour. The cleaning system is equipped with
a Buhler destoner. This stage is followed by three gentle
milling passes through Blancostar whiteners, which ensure
very efficient removal of the bran. A Highpoly water polisher
after the whitening process imparts an extremely clean and
glossy white appearance to the kernels, offering an advantage
over traditional milling methods. A Sortex 90003 color
sorter further upgrades the quality of this product by
using the most advanced technology. This process stage
removes the concentration of predominantly chalky and
discolored grains to give the cooked rice its excellent
texture, taste and appearance. The finished rice is graded
by a plansifter, followed by a pass through indented
cylinders to separate the head rice from the various small
and medium fractions and the brokens.

Higher yield of head rice

For the customer, the most prominent advantage of this
highly sophisticated Buhler process technology lies in its
higher recovery rate of head rice compared to local
installations of conventional design. Apart from its
technological support, Buhler also provided assistance in
design, engineering and installation. The mill is of compact
design and completely automated, using an easy-to-operate
relay-based logic system meeting the requirements of both
the milling process and the operators of the plant. The
owners of this modernized mill in Suriname, the Soechit
family, already operate an existing Buhler rice mill in
France, the Nouvelle Rizerie du Nord.

Buhler is the global technology partner for efficient
production systems, engineering solutions and the associated
services in the food processing industry, in chemical
process engineering and in die casting.

Mechano Fusion is Now Available from Hosokawa Micron
------------------------------------------------------------

Mechano Fusion (surface fusion) is an innovative technology
that generates a mechano chemical reaction to create new
particulate materials. Because an infinite amount of
particle combinations are possible, Mechano Fusion is ideal
for realizing new particle designs and processes and well
suited for use in a wide variety of applications.

The Mechano Fusion system can achieve high powder particle
functionality in the following materials: organic and inorganic
substances; metal; ceramics and raw materials. Among the
powder/particle modifications achievable with Mechano Fusion
are improved particle composition and surface quality, control
of particle shape (spherical or flat) and enhanced powder
fusion more precise dispersion and integral mixing at the
particulate level.

The simple mechanical technique utilized by Mechano Fusion
offers an endless range of material combination applications
compared to wet techniques or other dry methods.

For example, when compared to conventional dry mixers,
Mechano Fusion not only produces compound particles, also
achieves more complete mix distribution and controls particle
shape.

Hosokawa Micron has developed an improved Mechano Fusion
system with the addition of a powder re-circulation process.
This new device, the Mechano Fusion AMS, broadens the range
of powders and particles that can be processed with Mechano
Fusion. This opens up an endless array of possible combinations.

Features

-Produces composite particles, controls particle shape
(spherical or flat) and precise mixing
-Eliminates the need for premixing without compromising product
quality
-Scale up processing using Mechano Fusion on conventional mixers
-Easy feeding and discharging of materials with complete product
evacuation
-Product temperature is controlled using a water-cooled jacket
-Compact design saves space
