Hi Everyone,

NEW SERVER:  Well it's finally gone through now and we are operation on our new server.  It has lots of power, features and most important - room to grow.

Powder and Bulk Dot Com gets almost a half a million page views and last month ~40,000 visitors.  Our old rented server space just couldn't handle the traffic, but the new one is going like gang-busters!

The other aspect of having our own server is that we can add all sorts of new features that one might not be able to run on a $20-a-month virtual space.  And we have added a few new features, one is a new search engine.

SEARCH ENGINE:  We have a great new search engine, not only does it perform keyword searches faster but it also ranks the results for you based on the keyword frequency and density on that web page.  Also, and this is what I like the best, it lets you see how the keyword occurs within the page before you click on the link by showing snippets of sentences on the page containing the keyword your are looking for.  Give it a whirl, click here!

WHOOPS:  Over the weekend we sent out a Membership Survey.  The way it was sent, as a Javascript caused problems for a number of people.  If you haven't taken the Survey, click here and take a few seconds to tell us about yourself.  We have been pleasantly surprised by the result so far!

Thanks,
Joe Taylor

3rd World Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container 2002

Congress & Exhibition
6 & 7 November 2002
Antwerp, Belgium

Millennium Conferences International has pleasure in announcing the 3rd World Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container 2002 Congress & Exhibition. The event is supported and endorsed by the relevant associations including the European Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association (EFIBCA), US FIBCA and Australia FIBCA.

Over the years the two-day event has proven to provide the industry with an international forum for discussion. It offers considerable benefit to end-users, manufacturers, suppliers and those who are considering using Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs) for the first time.

FIBCs - also known as bulk bags or big bags - started to gain acceptance in the mid-1970s. Designed to transport bulk materials safely in unit loads usually of between 500 and 1500kg, they soon showed significant cost savings as well as logistical advantages over traditional methods of moving powders and granules in palletized 25kg or 50kg sacks.

In recent years the market share of FIBCs has grown at the phenomenal rate of more than 10% per annum. Throughout this time the industry has enjoyed an excellent safety record and in order to maintain and improve this it is increasingly important to educate and inform users about current safety recommendations and legislation.

The conference will highlight market issues, implications of new regulations, manufacturing, purchasing, usage and disposal of FIBCs. The Congress offers a rare opportunity - in an informal and congenial atmosphere - to establish and develop contacts for the exchange of ideas, information, discussion and experience.

Organizations can enhance and raise their profile by taking a leading role at the event by sponsoring various events and conference material. The conference will be supported by an exhibition which will be an excellent marketing opportunity and will also provide a meeting place to discuss services with new and existing clients.

...Blending of Ultrasonics and Electric Drives

HyBrute 18 Increases Screening Capacity of Fine Materials

Cleveland, OH -- The Cleveland Vibrator Company, uniting with HK Technologies of Salem, Ohio, is proud to introduce the HyBrute 18. The new vibratory screener is a blending of ultrasonics and rotary electric drives, the result is a high-capacity, fine powdered-materials screener.

Click hereThe HyBrute 18 Screener incorporates the low maintenance, high volume material flow rates of a "brute force" vibratory feeder and the high precision characteristics of an ultrasonic screener. The resulting "hybrid" screener brings together the best of both types of vibratory units, low maintenance, large capacity, and precision screening for fine materials.

Product is transported across the screen surface via vibration produced by twin rotary electric vibrators; the screening action is enhanced by ultrasonic vibration applied to the screen section. This joint effort results in:

  • Higher sieving efficiency
  • Higher production rates
  • Screening to 20 micron
  • Consistency with less blinding

Since 1923 The Cleveland Vibrator Company has manufactured equipment for industries such as recycling, chemical, sand and gravel, plastics, glass, foundry, mining, and special effects.

"...Frequency Modulated Radar"

New Instrument Measures Level Through Dust

SPRINGHOUSE, Pa., May, 2002 - Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. has released the new SITRANS LR 400 radar instrument for reliable continuous level measurement in difficult, long-range applications on dusty solids, as well as in liquid storage.

Click hereThe instrument's ability to penetrate dust makes it ideal for applications on cement, flour, fly-ash, carbon black, petroleum coke, and other dusty materials. When applied in various applications through out the cement industry. SITRANS LR 400 provides reliable level information for improved plant efficiency and reduced operating costs.

The 4-wire power and 24 GHz high frequency allows superior performance for long-range applications up to 45 m (147 ft.) in cement, power, chemical, petrochemical, and other industries. The technology used is frequency modulated, continuous wave (FMCW) radar, with advanced echo-processing capabilities including Auto False-Echo Suppression.

The SITRANS LR 400 is also ideal for measuring liquids in storage vessels. It is especially effective on low dielectric liquids such as solvents, petrochemicals, oils or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) - even without a still-pipe. It is virtually unaffected by vapors, high pressure, or extreme temperatures that are often found in chemical and petrochemical industries.

Non-contacting technology means maintenance is minimal. There are no cables or weights that may break or fall into the vessel. Installation is easy, usually without interruption to the process. Configuration is simple, with auto-setup in as few as eight, menu-driven steps. The operator can select parameters from the multilingual menu using the special finger-activated, optical-input keys. SIMATIC™ PDM can be used for easy remote programming using HART or PROFIBUS-PA. Built-in self-calibration ensures repeatability.

Mr. Lianjie needs help bagging TiO2:

We have problems in valve bagging a rutile product, IE TiO2, at 85 degrees C to 110 degrees C into 25 kg bags sized 160 mm x 360mm x 600mm.

The product is aerated, containing air more than 20% with volume weight of 0.4 to 0.6 ton/m3. Its size is 325 mesh. The permeability of the bag is poor. It is required that the product be not compacted.

The packing rate is 2 bags per minute. The packing accuracy is 25kg plus or minus 100g while an error of any successively total weightment of 40 bags should be a positive value.

Is there any method to solve the problem?

Mr. Troen needs help cleaning his pneumatic conveyor:

We have a vacuum transport system based on dilute/lean phase powder conveying in a multi-product plant. We are looking for a system to clean the pipelines to avoid clogging and cross-contamination in the transport system.

We are very reluctant on introducing water/liquids into these pipes and are thus looking for a non-liquid based system which enables us to in an easy and sanitary way clean the inside of the pipes.

The system must be able to handle 3" pipes in lengths of 100-200 meters.
