Acquisition Adds New Depth to Line of Single-Screw Extruders
------------------------------------------------------------
CINCINNATI, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Milacron Inc. (NYSE: MZ)
has acquired the business and technology rights of Akron
Extruders , a single-screw plastics extrusion specialist
located near Akron, Ohio. With less than $10 million in
annual sales, Akron Extruders' lines of single-screw
extruders and replacement barrels and screws give Milacron's
U.S. plastics extrusion business a new presence in a
value-oriented segment of the market.
This acquisition follows Milacron's sale of its marginally
profitable European extrusion systems business last December
to concentrate on the long-term growth of its stronger, fast
growing U.S. extrusion systems business.
The manufacture of Akron extruders will be moved to Milacron's
award-winning plastics machinery facility in Batavia, Ohio,
while production of Akron replacement barrels and screws will
be absorbed by Wear Technology , Milacron's company in McPherson,
Kansas serving the after market for new and rebuilt extruder
barrels and screws. Akron's global-platform product lines
will be maintained separately and marketed under the name
Akron Milacron.
A number of key Akron employees will also join Milacron to
ensure continuity and a successful product line launch,
according to Jim Abbiati, vice president and general manager
of Milacron's plastics machinery applications business.
"Akron Milacron products do not overlap with our current
lines and will make us much more competitive in the
value-driven segment of the single-screw market," Jim Abbiati
said. "The line also gives us products to offer for co-extrusion
with our larger twin-screw PVC systems. Akron will enable us to
knock on more doors with a wider range of product, utilizing
Akron's existing agent network, as well as our own, to sell
these machines. In sum, this acquisition emphasizes our
commitment to grow our U.S. extrusion systems business."
Milacron Inc. is a world leader in plastics processing and
metalworking technologies with major manufacturing facilities
in North America, Europe and India and 11,000 employees worldwide.
Plastics technologies include injection molding machines,
blow molding equipment, extrusion systems and wear items, mold
bases, mold-making equipment and mold components, as well as
after market and MRO (maintenance, repair and operating) parts
and services.

USDA/3A Equipment a Big Success in Bulk Bags
------------------------------------------------------------
Bulk Bag Discharging can be one of the most economical ways
to store and move materials. By ordering materials in such
large quantities, there is a definitive discount. Another
plus to going with this system is that waste will be
minimized due to the operation. If you are using a sack
process now, the cost of disposing the empty sacks and man
hours unloading these units is not as cost effective.
Another consideration is the possibility of worker
compensation costs due to back and other injuries may be
considerable.
Now any facility requiring USDA/3A approved machinery can
use this Spiroflow equipment. This is a big benefit for the
Bulk Bag industry! Designed for easy cleaning operation,
the Bulk Bag Discharger and Flexible Screw Conveyor can
handle a variety of materials including sensitive products
where microbial contamination must be controlled.
The USDA/3A equipment is available in all 5 types of
Spiroflow Bulk Bag Dischargers and also the Flexible Screw
Conveyors.

Fluid Bed Cleaning in Place
------------------------------------------------------------
Columbia, MD: The Aeromatic-Fielder Division of Niro Inc. now
offers a patented technology for cleaning fluid bed processors
in place. Cleaning in place (CIP) features may be incorporated
into every fluid bed dryer, granulator, and coater offered by
the company. CIP is important in many segments of the chemical
industry, particularly in pharmaceutical production and food
processing, where automation of the cleaning process ensures
repeatability, allows validation, and minimizes down time.
The heart of the Aeromatic-Fielder CIP system is an advanced
Wash Liquid Preparation Unit, which handles all filtering,
preheating, mixing, and pumping of water, detergents, and
demineralized water. It provides continuous monitoring and
control of cleaning parameters, including flow rate, detergent
concentration, temperature, and wash time, for full process
validation.
Aeromatic-Fielder fluid bed systems offer a patented
Non-Sifting Gill Plate™ air distributor that is much easier
to clean than traditional double-layer designs. It is welded
in place to eliminate powder traps. Other CIP features are
cartridge filters that can be fully cleaned in place,
retractable tank cleaners, CIP discharge mills, reverse-rotate
impellers, and strategically positioned cleaning nozzles.
Aeromatic-Fielder is one of the world’s leading manufacturers
of advanced solids processing systems for granulation,
pelletization, coating, and drying. Its advanced ranges of
fluid bed processors and high-shear mixer/granulators are
used throughout the pharmaceutical, chemical, and food
processing industries.
In addition to a wide range of standard options and
configurations in stand-alone equipment, the company also
offers complete engineering services, from system design to
process integration and optimization.
Aeromatic-Fielder technology centers are located in the
U.S., Switzerland, and the U. K. Services include product
evaluation and testing, and process optimization. The
company operates a specialized Pharmaceutical Technology
Center in Columbia, Maryland, U.S.A.
