Superior : Tunnel Reclaim Conveyors Offers Low-Cost Alternative

MORRIS, MN -- Superior Industries, a Morris, Minn.-based manufacturer of conveyor systems and components, offers its tunnel reclaim conveyors as a low-cost alternative to loaders and feed hoppers. Available as portable or stationary units, Superior Industries’ heavy-duty reclaim systems are reliable as well as cost effective in applications that include primary plant feed, wash plant feed, truck loadout, and live storage.

Delivering low-cost installation when compared to galvanized and pre-cast tunnels, Superior Industries’ tunnel reclaim conveyors are manufactured in steel and are available in rounded or rectangular box designs. For operational safety, units can be accompanied by either 8’ or 10’ domes engineered with a stress-shedding design. The larger 10’ domes allow for wider belts or a two-sided walkway.

Superior Industries offers a comprehensive line of conveyor systems, equipment and components for sand gravel, aggregate, mining, concrete, asphalt, recycling, civil and marine engineering, wood, pulp, and paper, chemical processing, electric utility, coal, grain, and other processing industries.

Buhler : World’s Tallest Grain Elevator Inaugurated

Uzwil,Switzerland -- The world’s tallest grain elevator (silo) was inaugurated on April 15, 2005 at the German company Carl Kunkele zur Schapfenmuhle in Ulm. The grain storage facility has a height of 115 meters and was built within 12 months. Buhler as a longtime partner was awarded the supply of the mechanical equipment as well as of the process control system.

The project comprised the design, engineering, supply, installation supervision, and start-up of the grain elevator plus a hulling system for oats and dinkel (spelt wheat) with a capacity of 120 metric tons a day. Buhler was in charge of supplying the mechanical equipment and for the process control system. The WinCoS software applied includes - in addition to the basic elements - the 'WinTrace' module for product retracing and the 'WinMessenger' fault reporting system.

It is integrated in the customer’s master planning system. The mechanical equipment of the hulling system also includes the new PRIMUS high-capacity grain cleaner, which separates all contamination from the grain at a high throughput capacity and in a single pass.

With its 115 meters height the silo is the highest of the world and after the city’s cathedral the second highest building of Ulm. It has a capacity of 8,000 tons of grain.

Buhler is a global Technology Group and a system partner in the supply of plant and equipment and process know-how in the fields of Food Processing, Chemical Process Engineering, and Die Casting, with a payroll of about 6100 worldwide.

Mr. Rajan wants help with silo discharge of PU foam:

We have a large silo, cylindrical, with flat top and bottom (2.5m dia x 6m high) which is filled with PU foam (granulated to about 20mm). We have fitted a blower to the bottom of the silo, but on switching on, initially the material is conveyed, but soon rat-holing occurs and only air comes out.

Sometimes excess foam chips enter the blower and chokes it. We tried to solve this by placing an inverted cone at the center of the silo and connecting the suction of the blower to this by a flexible pipe. We kept a gap of 20mm from the bottom, but immediately rat-holing occurred.

The foam is not free flowing and stands vertical even to a height of 3-4 meters without falling. The blower is 5 hp and it coveys the chips to a height of 6m vertically. The blower seems to be ok but the chips do not come out of the silo.
