New Sponsor : Kason Corporation
Jacksonville
Beach, FL -- We are pleased to announce that Kason
Corporation has become a sponsor of Powder and Bulk Dot Com.
Since
its inception in 1967, Kason has been providing equipment
and services to those with screening, drying and cooling
problems. Kason line of screening and separation equipment
is the most extensive in the industry and their design
philosophy has led to the development of a number of unique
innovations - some of which have even won design awards.
Kason
manufactures equipment for screening, drying, and cooling of
bulk plastics, foods, chemical and pharmaceuticals. Major
products include the Vibroscreen® vibratory screeners and
Centri-Sifter® centrifugal screeners for sifting, scalping,
classifying, delumping, and dewatering of bulk solids and
slurries.
When
it comes to processing, Kason's fluid bed dryers, coolers
and moisturizers offer high-efficiency drying, cooling or
moisturing of bulk materials at low cost. Because it's
circular design, the fluid bed processor is more compact and
efficient. Complete fluid bed systems can be pre-engineered

Packaging Machinery Purchases to
Stabilize in 2007
Arlington,
VA -- The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute
(PMMI), the leading global packaging industry resource and
trade association, announced the U.S. domestic demand for
packaging machinery is projected to level off in 2007 to an
estimated value of $6.27 billion.
The
data, based on PMMI’s U.S. Packaging Machinery Purchasing
Plans Study, represents the collective voice of 468 decision
makers responsible for 7,160 packaging lines in 1,073 plants
located throughout all key U.S. market segments.
Since
the economic downturn of 2001, North American Packaging
Machinery Manufacturers have experienced strong growth over
the last five consecutive years. PMMI reports that the 1%
scenario for machinery purchases in 2007 reflects a
cautionary reaction to the uncertainty of the U.S. economy,
rather than decisions based on financial imperatives.
PMMI
anticipates optimistic forecasts for the following market
segments: Pharmaceutical/Medical (+2% to +4%), Foods (+1% to
+3%), Chemical Products (+0% to +2%) and Converters,
Printers, Others (+0 to +2%).
"After
years of considerable capital equipment investment, it's
clear this year that end users are in a 'wait and see'
position," said Charles D. Yuska, president and CEO of PMMI.
"However, with some markets hovering near 80% capacity, PMMI
expects companies to continue to invest in more efficient
packaging lines later in the year."
The
complete 2007 Purchasing Plans Study is available for $1,500
by contacting Paula Feldman, director of statistics, at
1-888-275-7664.

Powders Show becomes "Process
Technology Expo"
Los
Angeles, CA -- Canon Communications today announced the
launch of Process Technology Expo International, an
all-industry umbrella event designed to meet the needs of
processing, production and packaging engineers, and
facilities and operations managers who are responsible for
processing, handling, packaging, testing, storing, tracking
and transporting dry particulates, bulk solids, liquid and
gaseous materials for every process industry and
application.
The
three-day, biennial event, set for May 6-8, 2008 at the
Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL,
significantly expands the focus of the International Powder
& Bulk Solids Exhibition to include all processed materials
- dry, liquid and compressed air/gas products - from a wide
range of industries, including food, beverage, chemical,
pharmaceutical, cosmetics, rubber and plastics, paper and
pulp, paints and coatings, mining, petroleum, glass, and
others.
The
event includes a conference program, which begins a day
before the exposition on May 5th. The overall combined event
will include 650 exhibiting companies occupying 170,000 net
square feet with attendance expected to reach 20,000.
The
expanded show provides a market-based, unified perspective
on the full range of processing technologies, products,
equipment, systems and services while offering dedicated
events focusing on powder and bulk solids processing,
chemical processing, pharmaceutical processing, and
packaging solutions for the processing industries.
Commenting on the announcement, Kevin O’Keefe, vice
president of Canon’s event division, said, "This is a
natural expansion of the Powder & Bulk Solids Show, which
was established 1976. After acquiring the event last year,
we talked with exhibitors, attendees, and representatives
from industry associations. We soon discovered that most
exhibitors supply a wide range of processing companies
across the industrial landscape."
O'Keefe continues, "Similarly, our discussions with key
attendees and research revealed that many of these companies
are involved in processing the full spectrum of dry and
liquid materials. By providing a full-featured event in
Process Technology Expo International, we can offer
suppliers the most cost-effective way to reach the entire
processing market, while providing buyers and process
engineers with an efficient, one-stop resource for all of
their product, equipment and service needs, for every
processing industry and every application."
The
International Powder & Bulk Solids Exhibition has an
established history of attracting a sizeable number of
attendees from key centers of process manufacturing around
the world. O’Keefe notes that the expanded focus of Process
Technology Expo International will likely increase global
participation, and will be of particular interest to the
region, which is home to a significant number of processing
plants.
"It’s
an underserved market", says O’Keefe, "There are over 4,700
food processing plants, 2,800 chemical processors, and 100
pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in the immediate
five state region which is in close proximity to the show.
Collectively, these plants employ over 475,000 and generate
annual revenues of $203 billion."
The
launch of Process Technology Expo International with its
four synergistic shows and heart-of-market location, taps
into the particular strengths of Los Angeles-based Canon
Communications, the largest organizer of manufacturing
events in North America.

New Book : Guide to Selection and Use of IBC's
Cheshire,
UK -- The British Materials Handling Board announces the
publication of its latest guide: "Selection and Use of
Intermediate Bulk Containers", compiled by Tom Taylor a
director of the board.
Lyn Bates the Chairman of the
Board writes: "It is a pleasure to introduce this
book as a valuable contribution to the user faced with
considering or selecting an IBC system or dealing with
them on a day to day basis. Large scale transport of
loose solids, for many years used sacks at the point of
discharge from ships and wagons. It is only with the
rise of industrialization and rising cost of labor that
unit-load fabric containers and, more recently, metal
and plastic containers have been used on a large scale
for distribution and in-plant handling of bulk solids.
Containers in the capacity
range of 500 liters to 3 cubic meters are classed as of
‘Intermediate’ size, the volume often related to density
or, for the smaller units, being appropriate to the
value or usage rate, with construction in plastic,
aluminum, mild and stainless steel offering a wide
choice of contact surfaces and finishes.
A key feature the employment
of IBC’s is that they can be taken directly to the
final, convenient point of use of their contents.
Reliable discharge is a crucial factor in the selection
of IBC’s, as this is fundamental to their use. While
some bulk materials are invariably free flowing in all
conditions of supply and application, the range and
variation in the physical properties of bulk materials
moved in these containers has dictated that external
assistance is often required to initiate and sustain
flow, and provide complete clearance of the contents.
Special shaped bins are available with improved geometry
that exploit gravity flow with the latest advances in
bulk technology.
A feature of this publication
is that appendices are included by some leading
manufacturers of IBC handling systems. Whereas IBC is a
generic term for medium sized containers, the design of
some involves proprietary design of the units or
integrated handling system that is the domain of
specific suppliers. Allowing these manufacturers to
present the case for their equipment offers the reader a
direct opportunity to consider the merits of these
respective systems for their own applications.
Other issues involve secure
containment when making connections for filling and
discharge, and many advances have been made in this
area. Flexible IBC’s continue to be the largest growth
area in this field, with improvements in fabrics, design
and mass manufacture enhancing the fitness for purpose
and economy of use.“
Copies of the book are
available from the BMHB by e-mailing Tom Taylor at

plus postage.
