Bin Washing : Matcon Announces
New Partnership
Sewell,
NJ -- Matcon are pleased to introduce a new strategic
partnership with Suncombe - CIP and Process Cleaning
Specialists. Suncombe has 45 years experience and expertise
in quality manufacturing of washing systems for European and
overseas markets. Most systems are modular and skid mounted.
Customers are mostly in Pharmaceutical, Bio-Pharmaceutical,
Food and Chemical industries. Although the Company has
supplied many systems for international markets, it is UK
based, with limited international presence.
Matcon
has 25 years of market leadership in supply of IBC systems
for process industry. Most systems supplied require some
level of washing technology, both for the IBCs and the range
of fixed equipment – discharge stations, filling systems
etc. The Company has built up a strong international sales,
project management and field service capability. It has own
offices in UK, USA, Japan, Australia, Germany, France,
Sweden and Holland. It also has a global network of business
partners (agents and representatives) who provide
engineering sales and service support. Until now the Company
has either designed it’s own washing systems or worked with
various regional suppliers on a project by project basis.
The
market for skid mounted, IBC and small vessel washing
systems is very fragmented and customers around the world
find it very difficult to specify, purchase and implement
their washing requirements. In many cases it is necessary to
engineer solutions from scratch, which takes a lot of time
and money and is inherently risky.
Suncombe and Matcon have begun a strategic alliance to
combine their respective strengths in this area. A key focus
of the alliance is the development of a range of standard
washing technology for all kinds of IBCs and small process
vessels for all kinds of industry. By applying “best
practice” industry standards and a modular approach, the
alliance will reduce the very high degree of bespoke
engineering, lead times and costs which typically surrounds
CIP and washing systems.
This
will be a win, win, win formula for customers.

Abrasives : New Automated Sedimentation Analysis
Dresden,
Germany -- The US-Sedimentometer USS 791 from Topas GmbH
Dresden, Germany applies the sedimentation principle in
suspensions to determine the particle size distribution of
samples. The correlation between particle size and
sedimentation rate due to gravity allows an accurate
assessment.
The sedimentation rate is also
influenced by the specific gravity, the particle shape and
the density and viscosity of the suspension. All of these
values must be available in order to get accurate results.
The operating principle is based on measuring the time in
which certain quantities of sample accumulate in a
calibrated tube. The particle size distribution is then
calculated by applying Stokes’ law.
The operating principle of the
US-Sedimentometer USS 791 is based on an internationally
recognized method to characterize particle properties of
electro-corundum and silicon carbide and is used to
determine particle size distributions of these materials.
This method is part of the FEPA-Standard 43-D, which
defines properties for electro-corundum and silicon
carbide in coated abrasives, part 3 testing of P240 to
P2500 and also the FEPA-Standards 42-D for conventional
abrasives, part 3 testing of F230 to F1200.
The main advantages of the USS
791 are:
- Fully automated analysis with minimal operator input
- User friendly Software (USSWin) enables visualization,
processing and storing of measured data
- standard serial interfaces of the instrument
Further applications for the
USS 791 are sedimentation analyses in other areas of
quality assurance as well as research institutes and
universities.

New Aggregate Diverter Solves Wear Problems
In the spring of 2004, the head
of maintenance at one of the facilities for a nationwide
concrete packager contacted Salina Vortex. He had gotten
Salina Vortex’s name from a sister facility that had
successfully worked with them on an earlier project. He
wanted to know if Salina Vortex manufactured a bucket
style diverter that could handle the enormous amount of
aggregate, concrete and sand products his facility
processed each day. They were currently using a diverter
that was being fabricated locally. However, it presented
many maintenance issues....(more)
