Pump : K-Tron's New Feeder Technology
Pitman,
NJ -- The K-Tron Feeder Group will premier a revolutionary
new concept for feeding bulk materials at Chinaplas,
December 4-7, 2003 in Beijing. Known as the K-Tron
"Bulk Solid Pump" (BSP), this new K-Tron feeder
does not use the usual screws/augers, belts or vibratory
trays to convey the material. It utilizes positive
displacement action to feed free flowing materials with
astounding accuracy, offering uniform discharge,
consistent volume and gentle handling.
The BSP feeder has vertical
rotating discs that create a product lock-up zone
conveying the material smoothly from storage hopper to
discharge outlet, achieving true linear mass flow.
Utilizing a simple design and the principle known as
"lock up," the material in the feeder is moved
together in true positive displacement, producing
excellent linearity and breakthrough accuracy levels. With
no pockets or screws and only one moving part, the compact
feeder is cleaned in seconds, making it ideal for
applications with frequent material changes.
Both gravimetric and
volumetric versions of the BSP will be available for free
flowing materials, such as pellets and granules. Two
models will be introduced initially. The BSP-100 will feed
from 2 to 200 cubic dm/hr (0.07 to 7 cubic ft/hr). The
BSP-125 will feed from 9 to 900 cubic dm/hr (0.32 to 32
cubic ft/hr). K-Tron will also introduce a new gravimetric
blender utilizing BSP feeder modules.

Uzwil,
Switzerland -- The acquisition enables the Buhler Group to
further expand its line of plant and equipment for
printing inks, coatings, and specialty chemicals.
DraisDM is the name of the
new Buhler center of competence for dispersion and wet
micromilling technology in Mannheim, Germany. Legally,
DraisDM is a branch of Bühler GmbH Braunschweig. Its
operations are an ideal complement to the activities of
the Buhler Grinding & Dispersion business unit.
Whereas Buhler provides competencies in engineering and
automation with a focus on printing inks, DraisDM can
boast traditional strengths in the coatings and chemicals
business.
Both are specialists in
their respective fields of process engineering. In the
areas of specialties, ceramics, electronics, cosmetics,
pigment preparations, inkjet inks, paper coatings, and
nanotechnology, Buhler and DraisDM together offer an
attractive range of special-purpose equipment tailored to
the needs of the relevant industries. This range comprises
products especially suited for fast product changes, high
cooling efficiency, freedom from contamination, and easy
manageability.
Thirty qualified employees
of DraisDM continue to offer their know-how in

Limestone : PEBCO Clamshell
Gates at Quarrying Facility
Paducah,
KY -- One of the world's largest aggregate operations
prefers PEBCO clamshell gates in their North American
facilities. Since 1995, forty-one (41) of these specially
designed units have been purchased for this limestone
quarry facility. These totally automated gates provide the
necessary control to allow accurate blending of material
to meet customer specifications.
These PEBCO clamshell gates
serve as gravity feeders from stockpiles to conveyors. The
crushed limestone weighs approximately 90 pcf and flow
rates vary from 500 to 4,500 tons per hour. These
particular units have a 24" x 48" opening and
are operated hydraulically. They feature A-36 carbon steel
construction with abrasion resistant steel strips on door
edges and ends of the gate. The sides are lined with AR
400 BHN because of the abrasiveness of the crushed
limestone.
PEBCO's Clamshell gates
have a proven rugged design and offers limited entrapment
areas for material to hang up. Clamshell gates are
typically used for cutting off or regulating material flow
when loading hopper bins, conveyors and other containers.
The dual cylinder version optimizes structural integrity
and closing force. Optional seals can be purchased for
fine or wet materials.

Bulk2004 : MHEA Technical
Awareness Seminar Issues a Call for Papers
Location:
Manchester, UK - Airport Moat House
Date: April 22 - 23, 2004
Day one of the MHEA Seminar
begins by focusing on Transport & Storage. There are
always new and existing products that need to be
transported and stored in more reliable, safer and cleaner
ways to meet environmental and economic requirements.
Throughout the Seminar, two
key areas where the acquisition of design knowledge is at
a premium are (i) biomass handling in the field of energy
production and (ii) waste handling & recycling.
The transportation theme is
continued in the next two sessions, Conveyors &
Elevators, and Tunneling The final Session of the first
day, Mobile Crushing & Screening Plant, looks at the
necessary technology and business opportunities associated
with the physical processing of bulk and powdered
materials.
The first session of Day
two is Waste Handling & Recycling which outlines
current and emerging business prospects for the materials
handling industry.
The final Session of
BULK2004 opens up the subject of coal fired Power Station
Refurbishment. As all of the UK fossil fuel thermal power
stations have now exceeded their design life, the
requirement to extend the life of mechanical handling
systems of these stations is a topical issue.
TOPICS: Transport &
Storage, Conveyors & Elevators, Tunneling, Mobile
Crushing & Screening Plant, Waste Handling &
Recycling and Power Station Refurbishment

Mr. Nobles wants to
pneumatically convey cement:
I'm having serious problems
with a reputable companies barge unloading and conveying
system. The machine has constant control problems. The
machine spends more time down that in operation.
There have been questions
about the conveying compressors and control compressor.
The conveying compressors are 1500 cfm @ 50 psig with
aftercoolers. The moisture in the air has mixed with the
cement to form concrete.
The control compressor is
218 cfm @ 100 psig with an aftercooler and dryer. This
compressor still produce a large amount of water and
introduces it into the control system.
Need help, new to pneumatic
conveying and cement. (Click
