Coal : Russian Bulk Handling Port Upgraded

Essen, Germany -- Increasing demand on the world coal market is pushing to increase the Russian annual coal production. In order to handle this increased coal demand in the ports, all major coal producers are investing in the infrastructure of their port handling facilities.

One of these ports is Posjet Port, located in the very far east of Russia, close to the Chinese and North Korean border. From this location one of the important players on the coal market, Mechel Group, is handling their bulk coal shipment to Japan, Korea and South East Asia.

To increase their competitiveness in the market, Mechel Group is investing heavily in the upgrade of Posjet Port. ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik was selected by Mechel Group to supply all necessary bulk material handling equipment for the upgrade of the port.

The scope of work comprises delivery of railcar unloading facility (two side tipplers) unloading simultaneously two railcar wagons, one transfer car, two bucket-wheel stacker/reclaimers, one shiploader, crushing- and a complete conveying system, including all galleries, transfer towers and conveyor bridges.

In order to reduce the difficulties of unloading coal in winter, Mechel has added a defrosting tunnel, equipped with special heating devices.

To protect the environment, special requirements had to be taken into consideration when designing and configuring the handling system, in particular for environmental protection against dust and noise emission.

The handling capacity of the equipment is designed for 3,000 tons/hour and an overall handling capacity of 7 Mio. tons per year.

Considering the fact that the present handling capacity is between 2 to 3 Mio. tons per year, the expansion of the port increases the handling capacity by more than 1.5 times.

The equipment to be supplied by ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik will represent state-of-the-art in operational safety and handling efficiency.

As ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik, as one of the few suppliers in the world, covers the complete production program of the bulk materials handling sector, the complete handling facilities of the port system will be based on ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik’s own know how. Therefore the client can rely on a tailor-made system coming from one source.

The coal handling terminal at Posjet is scheduled to operate with the increased handling capacity around mid of 2010.

In addition the handling system will contribute to create new jobs and secure existing jobs in the region around Posjet. Posjet itself is a settlement of only 3000 people.

Sartorius Introduces ProBatch+ Software

Goettingen, Germany -- The Sartorius ProBatch+ software used in conjunction with the Sartorius X-Family, Combics Pro, and other PLC controllers offers the user efficient management of original raw material and recipe data. The powerful ProBatch+ software program allows for visual presentation of the running process and enables all batch procedures to be both visually monitored and easily controlled.

The ProBatch+ can supervise and monitor just a single scale or simultaneously control up to 16 production lines and scales operating in parallel. In addition, the software is extremely flexible and can be used for simple applications or larger process automation tasks.

ProBatch+ runs under Microsoft Windows and uses the powerful MS Access database to manage large quantities of raw material, recipe and production data, easily and securely. Universal record-keeping of production data provides all batch record traceability data for the user's SOP and Quality Control protocols.

ProBatch+ is ideal for manufacturers in the cosmetic, chemical and food industries as it covers a wide variety of products and at the same time can react quickly to changing market conditions and procedures.

Key advantages of Sartorius ProBatch+ Software:

Material management: ProBatch+ can manage a large number of materials pertaining to a production line. With only a few operator steps, raw material quantities used and recipe quantities produced can be called up. Automatic stock monitoring is included. Material tracking with three freely selectable batch parameters and one data field can be optionally activated.

Report management: At the end of every recipe run, ProBatch+ generates batch and production reports. Material management makes reports available on consumption, production quantities and stock levels. All reports can easily be individually adapted to the user's SOP.

Connection using established standards: Communication between ProBatch+ and controllers takes place using OPC in accordance with ANSI/ISO S88.01 Batch Control Standards. In order to connect to visualization systems, dynamic data is supplied via DDE and OPC. For data transfer of production data to an ERP System, the SQL and ODBC database interfaces can be used. This consistent use of established standards simplifies connection and reduces commissioning times and costs.

Script function: The script language integrated in ProBatch+ can be used for easy and flexible conversion of the user's specific process requirements. The script functions make it possible to implement rapid adaptations to process changes without the need to carry out expensive programming in the PLC.

Help Forum : Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Plitt wants to know the "market" for mixing powders:

I am wondering if there is a market out there for companies needed to mix powders (in roughly 1000 pound batches) in liquids like IPA or water, and then to dry the mixed material and send it back to customer?

If there are markets out there what fields are they most present in?
