The Filtration Society Appoints
New Chairman
UK
-- After two very successful years, the mantel of the
chairmanship of The Filtration Society has been passed from
Graham Rideal of Whitehouse Scientific to Lloyd Holiday of
Larox. During his term of office, Dr Rideal saw the biggest
growth in numbers of Corporate Associates of the Society in
the organization's 40 year history.
A
major factor contributing to the success of the Society has
been its organization of up to four one-day technical
meetings each year, at which highly relevant and
state-of-the-art information can be exchanged. The most
popular series is centered around filter testing, and these
meetings regularly attract international audiences from more
than 10 different countries.
Lloyd
Holiday brings to the office a large international network
of his own and highly respected organizational skills. He
will continue to build on the success of recent years to
grow and further develop the activities and reputation of
the Filtration Society.

New Attritor for Cryogenic
Milling
Akron,
OH -- Union Process, Inc., known globally as a manufacturer
of size reduction and dispersing equipment for research and
industrial applications, has produced a new S-Series
Attritor. The new S-50 Attritor was specifically designed
for cryogenic milling of aluminum powders.
The
S-50 has a special cover with a Teflon shaft seal for
ultimate grinding results at low temperatures. It features a
vent port for liquid nitrogen as well as ports for
thermocouples. The S-50 Attritor is designed with a jacket
around the exterior of the tank to maintain full vacuum at
temperatures as low as -320°F.
Featuring a gross tank volume of 81 gallons and a media
volume of 37 gallons, this S-50 Attritor is constructed with
a 40 HP motor with variable frequency drive (VFD). Since the
mill was required to be explosion-proof, the VFD is mounted
outside the hazardous area.
In
addition, an operator station with start/stop pushbuttons
and a speed potentiometer plus a dual meter station is
mounted on the machine. The dual meter station is programmed
to display RPM and amperage but can also be programmed to
display power consumption, percent torque, etc.
The
S-50 Attritor is ideal for long-term, heavy-duty operation.
Weighing approximately 3,500 pounds without media, the mill
is simple to operate and energy efficient. Because no
special foundation is necessary, this versatile batch
Attritor can be operated in virtually any location.
Union
Process is the inventor and developer of Attritor technology
and manufactures wet and dry grinding mills as well as small
media mills.

New Model of SLIM Offered
Hauppauge,
NY -- Bogard Lagman, Executive Vice President today
announced the availability of a new laboratory model of
the SLIM (solids-liquid-injection-manifold).
The SLIM system takes
advantage of the strong vacuum force that occurs at the
intake area and sucks in powders or liquids for
immediate emulsification or dispersion.
This new model includes all
stainless steel surfaces and a mirror finish on the
interior wetted components. As a result of this clean
design the unit is CIP/SIP capable. The entire system is
mounted on casters to enable portability and includes a
1-ѕ gallon funnel for powder charging. Complete
controls, sanitary connections, a double mechanical seal
and seal barrier system are also provided.
Typical uses for the SLIM
system are for the induction of difficult to wet solids
such as fumed silica, calcium carbonate, titanium
dioxide, gums, thickeners and many pigments. The end
result of using the SLIM system is a much faster and
more thorough wet out of difficult to wet solids and
minor liquids.
Additional information is
available by calling ROSS at 1-800-243-ROSS, or from the
SLIM Tab on the website,

Mr. Grigore wants a system for
unloading railcars:
I'm looking for a system to
unloading railcars in motion at 3,500 mt/hr. The material is
iron ore of 140#/cu.ft.
In my opinion, the complete
system has to include the following items:
- long hopper in order to empty each wagon
- rotary plow feeders under the hopper
- a belt conveyor under the plow feeders
- a system that will open automatically the bottom gates of
the cars.
Any ideas or manufacturer
references will be appreciated.
