Buhler is Awarded a 35-Million
Contract from Denmark
Uzwil,
Switzerland -- Buhler has signed a contract worth 35 million
Swiss francs with the Scandinavian Cerealia Group for the
supply of a new flour milling installation. The facility –
one of Europe's most advanced – will be located in the
Danish city of Vejle. It will further strengthen the
position of the Scandinavian market leader.
The Buhler Group signed the
contract with the Cerealia Group for the new 35-million
flour mill in Denmark at the end of October. The supply
includes the complete equipment including the electrical and
control systems of two wheat flour mills with grinding
capacities of 480 and 240 metric tons a day, respectively,
plus a rye mill for 140 tons per day. The contract includes
the cleaning section, a flour storage and handling system,
and the finished product handling installation. With its new
plant, Cerealia Denmark is concentrating its flour
production at its site in Vejle.
One of the characteristics of
this project is the very high level of automation of the
plant, with product retracing and top sanitation standards.
In addition, the challenge exists to fit the new building
structure into the existing, modern urban appearance of
Vejle. Start-up of the flour mill, which is highly
sophisticated in terms of both process technology and
architectural design, is scheduled for 2007. Once completed,
the facility will be the most up-to-date in Europe.
Cerealia belongs to the Swedish
Lantmдnnen agricultural cooperative. With a payroll of 5,100
and total sales (turnover) exceeding 1.5 billion Swiss
francs, the company is the absolute market leader in
industrial grain processing in Northern Europe. It produces
flour, breakfast cereals, bread, and pasta in various
countries.

design, moderate bin rotation speeds and easy-to-use
software ensures 100% accurate scale-up results. Effective
bin blending volumes range from 20 to 85%.
The
system is fully enclosed and eliminates physical sampling
requirements. It also prevents all contact with potent
products during testing.

Separator Meets Requirements of
Industrial Sand
CINCINNATI,
OH -- The ROTEX Minerals Separator meets the demanding
screening requirements of industrial sand applications, such
as sharp separations and high efficiencies. Rotex Inc., a
global supplier of screening equipment, designed the
separator to maximize product recoveries at material
temperatures up to 400 degrees F
The
Minerals Separator features a screen deck slope of six
degrees to meet glass, filter, and frac sand specifications
and maximize screen efficiency. The elliptical-linear motion
of the Minerals Separator equally distributes materials to
all screen decks, ensures uniform bed-depth across the
entire screen surface, and provides for aggressive blinding
control.
The
stacked, multiple-deck, tray access design allows for
individual screen access without the need to remove all
decks. A patented Lift-Rail system with non-binding
stainless steel cam activation, enables easy screen frame
installation and removal. Single deck screen cloth can be
changed in ten minutes, and an entire machine change takes
two hours.
The
single reaction cartridge with two spherical roller bearings
is designed for 200,000 hours of service. The Minerals
Separator utilizes a support shaft suspension system with
industrial U-joint bearings and no-maintenance, low torsion
center springs. An optional floor-mounted suspension stand
is available for installations without overhead support.
Abrasion-resistant steel construction and "rockbox" landing
areas allow for repeated impact on high-wear surfaces.
A
silicone seal system comes standard on all Minerals
Separator's that press fits into place without adhesives.
The seal is universal throughout the machine providing
exceptional sealing between screen decks on fine
separations. A unique sleeveless brush system on the
discharge doors eliminates traditional connecting sleeves
for quicker screen deck access. Integral vent connections
enable enhanced dust control on dust prone materials.
The
Minerals Separator is used for such industrial sand
applications as glassmaking, metal casting, metallurgical,
chemical production, building products, paint and coatings,
and ceramics and refractories.

New Inspection System for Solid Dose Pharmaceuticals
Walla
Walla, WA -- SYMETIX, the pharmaceutical business unit
of Key Technology, introduces Vantyx, a high-performance
inspection system for tablets, capsules, and softgels.
Vantyx achieves 100 percent, in-line inspection at full
production speeds using Key's patented SCA (Spatial
Color Analysis) technology, which provides the
industry's highest color and spatial resolution.
With unmatched precision,
Vantyx verifies product color, count, shape, position,
and presence of print and removes foreigners, color
errors, shape defects, and missing doses to assure every
dose conforms to product requirements. Vantyx enables
pharmaceutical manufacturers to achieve the highest
level of diligence while maximizing throughput.
Vantyx is FDA 21 CFR part 11
compliant, designed to meet GAMP 4 requirements, and
benefits from Key Technology's 10-year history of
supplying FDA-validated inspection solutions to the
pharmaceutical industry and 50-year history of supplying
innovative technology to the food industry.
The compact and flexible
Vantyx inspection system can be embedded within other
packaging machinery such as blisterpack thermoformers,
flat bed printers, and slat fillers. SYMETIX can also
supply Vantyx as a stand-alone, bulk-to-bulk high volume
inspection system. The technology is capable of
inspecting up to 10,000 individual tablets, capsules, or
softgels per minute, or as many as 360 complete
blisterpacks per minute.
Vantyx ensures accurate
product identification and product integrity to maximize
pharmaceutical manufacturers' diligence in assuring
product quality while running at full production speeds.
Vantyx also serves to monitor upstream production
processes, which allows manufacturers to address the FDA
's Process Analytic Technology (PAT) guidelines for
physical characteristics of the product.
SYMETIX can equip Vantyx with
two to six high-resolution color cameras, depending on
the needs of the application. With up to six cameras,
Vantyx can simultaneously inspect up to six different
packages or six separate arrays of product. Each camera
uses a dedicated image processor for maximum speed and
image resolution.

unloading railcars:
I am looking for a method or
tools to help in unloading bulk powders from railcars with
different chute centers without having to move the car.
The current system has fixed
unloading chutes that slide only 1 foot in either direction.
I need more flexibility. The railcars chute centers differ

Merck Monitors Granulate Growth in Real-time
Recent on-site trials
confirmed that a Parsum probe installed in a fluidized

that allows the evolution of a pharmaceutical granulate
to be monitored in real time. The process insight and
knowledge gained will be used by Merck to develop more
effective control strategies for the batch granulator
and improve process efficiency...(more)
