AGRA Welcomes Diavik Mine Announcement
------------------------------------------------------------
OAKVILLE, ON, - AGRA Inc. welcomes the decision by the Honorable
David Anderson, announced earlier this week, to proceed with
the next steps in the project approval process for the Diavik
Diamonds Project located 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife
in the Northwest Territories.
In July 1999, AGRA subsidiary AGRA Simons was named as construction
manager for the $1.3-billion diamond mine by project owners
Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. AGRA's total contract for work
(following final permitting) is expected to be approximately
$50 million. The federal Minister's announcement initiates a
final permitting process, anticipated to be completed by year -
end. AGRA Simons is now proceeding with certain tendering,
evaluating and awarding of contracts related to work that is
planned to begin in the new year.
"We are proud to have been awarded the key construction management
role for this important Canadian mining project and we are
encouraged to see the project moving toward full construction,"
said AGRA President & CEO Peter Janson. "Our role in the Diavik
mine project further strengthens our reputation for excellence
in a broad range of significant northern Canadian engineering,
construction and environmental projects."
AGRA Simons' work on the Diavik Diamonds Project will be conducted
on site with some support from the company's Yellowknife and
Calgary offices. The Diavik Diamonds Project is expected to
produce between 6 - 8 million carats a year, representing about
5 per cent of global diamond production. Construction is targeted
for completion by mid-2003.
AGRA Simons is a leading professional services company providing
engineering, construction and technology services to the mining,
consumer products and forest industries. It is a wholly owned
subsidiary of AGRA Inc., one of North America's largest international
engineering, construction, environmental and technology corporations.
Headquartered in Canada, AGRA employs 6,500 people and operates
186 offices in 24 countries. The company's web site is located at
http://www.agra.com
AGRA's shares are traded on the Toronto and Montreal exchanges
under the trading symbol AGR.

New Type of Briquetting, Roll Compactor
------------------------------------------------------------
Fitzpatrick recently developed a new type of briquetting roll
compactor, the Model 250Lx500D.
This new briquetter has following features a robust design for
high reliability and ease of maintenance. Minimal number of
unique parts to keep inventory and costs to a minimum. The
rolls are water cooled. Shells are 250 mm wide by 500 mm in
diameter, and are made of abrasion and corrosion resistant
steel, heat treated to RC59 hardness. Shells are oversized
to allow multiple regrinds. Rolls can be quickly and easily
removed.
The unit is belt driven by a TEFC drive motor. Fixed and
floating rolls are direct connected to dual gearbox via special
couplings. The feed system has provision for vacuum deaeration.
A hydraulic system is an air operated oil pump with accumulators
to ensure consistent pressure. Maximum roll force is equivalent
to 150 tons. Roll pressure feed system is controlled by load
cells integrated between fixed and floating bearing blocks,
ensuring positive, accurate monitoring of compaction forces.
The result is minimization of webbing and a highly consistent
quality briquette. For more information contact:

Hot Messages from the Help Forum
------------------------------------------------------------
People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions
to others in our open forum.
Mr. Joshi wants to know about accuracy of screw conveyors:
We currently use a silo/hopper with a special device to feed
a powder at around 250 kg/min. The discharge accuracy is
claimed to be + or - 0.5% of the setpoint. The powder is
then transferred to a screw conveyor for discharging into a
mixer. The variation in the final product weight can be
significantly greater than + or - 1% (compounded by the
variability of another feed material in the mixer).
Am I right in thinking that, because the screw conveyor is
a volumetric device and can introduce aeration, that it is
possible to 'undo' the accuracy of the precision feeder
and therefore suffer the higher variability in the final
product?
What is the general accuracy of discharge from a screw
conveyor claimed by various manufacturers? Can + or - 0.5%
be achieved in a screw conveyor?

Mr. Canjé help with heat exchanger operation:
I´m a student from Germany, University of applied Science Cologne.
A branch of study is construction several kinds of apparatus.
Due to this we need to construct a heat exchanger for gas, which
works by evaporating a liquid medium. The gas has nearly the
conditions of normal air. (for calculating) The gas coming in
temperature is 420 °C, the outgoing temperature is 60 °C, the
pressure is 6 bar. The feed is 30000 m3/h.
If anybody got something to calculate or knows how to construct
such a heat exchanger, i will be very thankful.
Greetings from Germany,
Oliver Canjé

Mr. Heekin wants help with powder coatings:
Is it possible to get a powder coat to put a wood grain effect
on aluminum if so who can supply it? I know that the piece
can be powder coated a film with a transfer put on the piece
before being put in the oven. but is there a simpler process.
All suggestions welcome,

Mr. Dykes need help with drilling mud:
Can anyone help us with a means to transfer oil based mud
contaminated drill cuttings from the solids removal equipment
on an offshore (North Sea) platform/mobile drilling rig
to dynamically positioned supply boats for transfer and
treatment ashore?
Approximately 7 tonnes of sticky oily cuttings are produced
an hour. Challenges include cutting stickiness, no spillage
(environmentally sensitive area), long convoluted transfer
routes, limited power availability, noise, occupational
health and safety considerations.
