SOLD : GEA-Niro Acquires Messo
Group
Columbia,
MD -- We are proud to announce that GEA has acquired
Messo-Chemietechnik GmbH, which is based in Duisburg,
Germany and its subsidiaries in Italy and Switzerland. The
parties to the deal have agreed not to disclose the purchase
price. The German antitrust authorities have already
approved the acquisition. Messo generated sales of 25
million euros in 2003 and currently employs 45 people.
The
Messo Group,
http://www.messo.com/ , is one of the market and
technology leaders in the field of crystallization
technology for the chemical, food and biotechnology
industries. It is also a major manufacturer and supplier of
evaporation equipment. Messo is therefore an ideal fit for
the evaporation and crystallization businesses of GEA's
Process Engineering Division.
In the
US, Messo will be represented by Niro Inc.’s business group,
GEA Evaporation Technologies, which also handle the thermal
evaporation, crystallization, distillation, and
rectification products lines of GEA Wiegand, Niro, and GEA
Kestner in North America.

New : Drum Hoop Mixer Type RRM
200
Germany
-- The drum hoop mixer is a reliable drum mixer for mixing,
homogenizing and dying of powdery or granulated components.
Due to the new compact design space can be saved and welding
and adjusting work are rationalized considerably reducing
the production time.
In
addition, the number of individual parts has been reduced
and standardized for all mixer sizes. A timer with extended
functions makes operating more convenient.
At J.
Engelsmann our engineers design and construct process
machines and complete plants for the customers of today and
the market of tomorrow. We supply customers in the chemical,
pharmaceutical, plastic processing and food industry as well
as to many companies processing bulk goods.

Malvern/Cemex : Collaboration Further Improves Cement
Particle
Malvern,
UK -- Working in close collaboration with Cemex, a leading
global producer of quality cement and ready-mix concrete
products ( www.cemex.com
), Malvern Instruments has developed a specialized version
of its Scirocco 2000 dry powder feeder that exactly meets
the sample dispersion needs of customers measuring cements
and other abrasive bulk chemicals. Cemex has approved the
new Scirocco 2000 for use and the dry powder feeder is
about to be installed at 12 sites in Mexico and at further
sites throughout the US later this year.
The Scirocco 2000 is one of a
range of sample dispersion systems for Malvern’s
well-established Mastersizer 2000 laser diffraction-based
article size analyzer. It has been designed to facilitate
routine, reproducible dry powder analysis, can be operated
either manually or automatically, and for abrasive
materials is fitted with ceramic components to ensure that
abrasion is reduced during operation.
The new Scirocco 2000 includes
a vibrating hopper feed system that ensures reproducible
sample delivery in the laboratory, where materials can now
quite simply be poured into the hopper prior to analysis.
Pressing the ‘go’ button then runs a predefined standard
operating procedure (SOP) during which sample delivery,
dispersion and cleaning of the sample tray after each
measurement is controlled.
The enhanced Scirocco 2000
design helps avoid sample cross-contamination, assures
control of the sample feed-rate and consequently delivers
highly reproducible results. The system can also be used
with Malvern’s DoubleAgent automation software, enabling
remote operation of the Scirocco within automated robotic
labs. This extends the capabilities of the Malvern
Mastersizer 2000 within the cement industry, allowing
routine analysis from 0.02 to 2000 microns, covering each
stage of the cement production process.

Malvern’s solutions for particle sizing in the cement and
chemicals industries can be found at

Gravity Flow : New Salina Vortex Aggregate Diverter
Salina,
KS -- The Salina Vortex Aggregate Diverter offers
customers a heavy duty, maintenance friendly diverter
capable of handling abrasive materials (coal, gravel,
sand, whole grains) in gravity flow applications.
Available in a complete size
range from 6” through 24”, the Aggregate Diverter™ may be
ordered with optional “dead pocket” inlet and
“honeycombed” bucket deflector for more abrasive
applications. Other options include abrasion-resistant
polymer or “honeycombed” chute liners.
Interior bucket seals increase
material handling efficiency, promote smooth bucket
actuation and minimize material migration to the off leg.
A removable access panel allows inspection or maintenance
of the diverter without removing it from service.

Mr. Oexeman wants feed
conveyor with weigh belt:
I want to feed from a weigh
belt feeder directly into a pneumatic conveying system
(pressure dilute). We are considering a traditional airlock.
But there is concern about there being no material head
above the rotary valve.
Please comment if you have
direct experience with this type of arrangement. The
material is free flowing.

Mr. Frotton
needs to crush Silicon Carbide:
I have a unique problem.
Crushing CVD SiC, chunks as large as 12" x 10" x 2" thick,
into 1-4 mm particles. I have tried jaw crushers, but
the SiC snaps the jaws much to frequently. Rolling type
mills also seem to suffer heavy damage.
I am looking for a low cost,
rugged and reliable solution.
