Processing : New Combi Fluidized Bed Granulator With Integrated Secondary Dryer

Gunskirchen, Austria -- AMMAG has developed and constructed a novel system of a fluidized bed granulator with integrated secondary dryer.  The novel AMMAG granulator A-WT/combi is a three stage counter current operating granulator for slurries and other liquids. It is applied whenever a product needs to be granulated and requires very low final moisture contents and a single granulation and drying step is not sufficient.

The outstanding advantage of the process is the use of the exhaust air of the post dryer in the granulation zone. This avoids many costs for both, investments and operation. Some of these advantages are:

- The dust in the exhaust air of the post dryer is led back directly into the granulation zone.
- No extra filters are needed.
- The energetic efficiency is significantly increased.
- No bulk material handling is needed between the two fluidized beds.

In addition to this, the erection plan exhibits various constructive benefits, leading to a very compact system, which can be extended easily in a modular way.

Systems can be provided in sizes from A-WT-43 to A-WT-280 with capacities from 20 kgs/hr to 2000 kgs/hr depending on the characteristics of the product. Ammag’s state of the art laboratory and engineering group can determine the optimum size for any application.

AMMAG GmbH, an Austrian plant engineering and construction company AMMAG is specialized on spray granulation and bulk material handling (conveying, silos, big bags, dosing and weighing). Own test plants in lab and pilot scale are used to test all process steps and to develop new products together with the customers. Toll manufacturing of these joint developments is possible.

Separation : Improve Screening with the Vibrasonic Spiroscreen

Middlesex, UK -- Russell Finex, the inventors of ultrasonic mesh deblinding systems, have introduced the new Vibrasonic Spiroscreen“ (patent pending). This next generation deblinding system enables powders to be sieved on finer meshes with more accuracy than ever before, even on large diameter screens. This increases the value of the screened powders as well as improving the quality of the final products they are used to manufacture.

Eliminating blinding offers other benefits including an increase in production output. Sieving capacities increase because all the apertures remain clear and powder can pass through them. Downtime is reduced as there is no need to stop the production process to clean the mesh.

Eliminating blinding also reduces production costs. Accurately screening powders in one pass maximizes sieving capacity thereby preventing the need to re-size good product. This shortens production time and increases yields – both saving money.

The new Vibrasonic Spiroscreen uses a spiral shaped ultrasonic distribution element to provide maximum control of the powder on the mesh screen thereby increasing its effectiveness in separating out the different sized particles in powders. This element is driven by a finely tuned Russell Finex Vibrasonic control unit incorporating technology proven over 30 years. The combination of out of balance weight settings, the shape of the spiral and the vibration activity guides the product to give full mesh usage. The element provides the opportunity to use larger screens with a single probe while keeping even activity levels over the whole mesh surface. As a deblinding aid it covers more mesh surface allowing maximum screen coverage.

The Vibrasonic system is easy to fit to an existing sieve or screener – even if it is not a Russell Finex model. Any diameter machine up to 2m and sometimes above can be retrofitted.

New : Sealed Gravity Diverter Valves

Cobourg, ON -- Lorenz has launched a new line of Sealed Gravity Diverter Valves for gravity flow application of dry materials. Sizes range from 4” up to 16” in a variety of configurations including H & Y styles in 45 degree and 30 degree legs.

Available in stainless steel, aluminum and carbon steel construction.  Active compression seals on shaft prevent leakage past the shaft and tough polymer blade seal prevent cross contamination. Blade tip is recessed into body to direct material away from the leading edge preventing cross contamination and wear.

Double acting, internal magnetic, cushioned air cylinder and choice of solenoids allow custom configurations.

Optional removable access door allows replacement of seals, inspections and cleaning without having to remove valve from service. Square to round transitions are available. All valves come fully tested, ready to install.

Lorenz & Son was established in 1979 is Canada’s leading manufacturer of couplings, tube & pipe bends, fittings, diverter valves, slide gates, cyclones & custom fabricated accessories for the pneumatic conveying, vacuum and bulk handling systems servicing the plastics, food and chemical industries. Quality, Service and Flexibility are the trademarks for Lorenz, all driven by the quality standard ISO 9001-2000 powering the company's systems.

Elevator Buckets : Stack Up Your Savings!

East Peoria, IL -- 4B Components has recently introduced a new and innovative polymer bucket to the grain and industrial sectors, called the “CC-S” stackable elevator bucket. This bucket was designed to nest or “stack”, to reduce shipping space and its freight classification, therefore saving our customers approximately 30 percent on truck freight charges.

Heavy poly shrink-wrapping is used to contain these buckets instead of outdated, space consuming cardboard cartons. Cardboard waste is expensive and an on-site nuisance to dispose of, especially when cartons have been exposed to moisture. Let “CC-S” reduce your storage space and shipping costs.

4B Expands Into Cement

4Bs has now signed an agreement to market and sell Polysur Ferro Steel Web Elevator Belts, together with Heavy Duty Pressed Steel "SJ" Buckets exclusively for the cement and heavy-duty industrial markets in the USA and Canada. This will enable the retrofit of existing large chain elevators to changeover to this more efficient and cost effective system. This service also applies to the OEM markets.

We also offer a free engineering design service for new and existing elevators. Call Dave Wolstencroft 309-698-5611 for more information or to request a quote.

Elena wants to test a materials handling system:

We would like to contact either a university or an institution in order to carry out some laboratory tests of a catalyst handling system.

The system consists of an ejection venturi, which is fed with catalyst from a fabricated hopper and a pneumatic conveying line driven by a roots type blower unit. We would like to build a pilot unit so that we can evaluate the performance.

Our company is located in South West Wales (UK). Could anybody help us to find the nearest centre?

Mr. Jolly needs help calculating horsepower:

I was hoping someone could help with a problem I am having with determining motor HP I need for running a conveyor in our mill. I read the article online about - Calculating Conveyor Horse Power - (ASK Joe Archives) to determine my required HP.

I have a 17 inch paddle conveyor that is being used to process peanuts (bulk density = 37. 3 lbs/ft^3) for a drying application. Currently, the paddle conveyor has installed on it a 1HP/1750 RPM Motor with a 40:1 Gear Reducer. An inverter is being used to vary the conveyor speed between 5-20 RPM for testing during operation. This drive system has proved to be inadequate has the motor frequently stalls during operation. According to the HP calculations from the article my power requirement is fractional approximately 1/10 HP.

Would anyone be able provide any insight as to why there is such a large discrepancy between the calculated HP requirement and the actual HP needs? Could there be a factor that I have not considered that is increasing my actual HP needs? I would like to size a larger drive system (one with more available HP and torque) but am not sure what to base the sizing on.

Any input would be much appreciated.
