Growth in Internet Spending Should Outpace All Others
------------------------------------------------------------

Internet Shopping Will Grow 50% Yearly to $64.6 Billion by
2003; Ad Spending to Exceed $8 Billion

September 29, 1999 (INB) -- The rise in Internet spending
will continue to outperform all other communications
industry segments over the next four years. Spending on
on-line access will more than double, while spending on
electronic advertising and shopping will more than
quadruple, according to the media industry merchant bank
Veronis, Suhler & Associates, http://www.veronissuhler.com .

As part of its forthcoming 1999 Communications Industry
Forecast due out this November the 13th annual industry
crystal ball produced by the firm Veronis, Suhler &
Associates projects that spending on Internet access will
grow at a 19.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the
five year period 1998-2003, from $6.1 billion in 1998 to
$15.1 billion in 2003.

Spending by households on on-line shopping will increase 50%
CAGR, from $8.5 billion to $64.6 billion in 2003, while
on-line ad spending will grow 33.7% CAGR from $1.9 billion
to $8.2 billion in 2003 -- growth rates far exceeding those
of ad spending in any other media segment.

The continued surge in Internet spending will be fueled by
several factors, led by declining computer prices and the
sheer rise in Internet penetration among U.S. households.
Growth should also be fanned by Internet access conversion
to cable modem and DSL. Other factors are greater acceptance
of on-line shopping, and advertisers' attempts to reach new
demographic groups on-line as Internet usage levels with the
general population.

Web-based advertising jumped 111.9% in one year, from $906
million in 1997 to $1.9 billion in 1998. While approximately
72% of all ad spending was on the top ten web sites, seven of
which were portals, niche content sites captured 20% of ad
revenues. On-line ad spending growth of 33.7% CAGR across the
forecast period will be driven by continued growth in the
number of on-line users, the increase in usage hours, and the
rise of on-line commerce.

New Plastic Rotor Meets USDA 3A Specifications
------------------------------------------------------------

Nu-Con Equipment’s plastic rotors are designed to work in
place of the standard, stainless steel rotor on Nu-Con's
demountable rotary valves. No modification is required.

The rotor is designed specifically for each application. The
product’s temperature and valve pressure differentials are
considered to assure proper sizing and clearance. Plastic
rotors eliminate metal-to-metal contamination. They are
substantially lighter, which makes them much easier to handle
and less likely to damage during removal and assembly.
They also have good product-release properties.

Plastic rotors can be used with Nu-Con's rotary valves in
a variety of applications, including: pneumatic conveying
systems; dust collectors; cyclones; hoppers; for dairy,
food, pharmaceutical, nutritional products and other
ingredients.

Nu-Con Equipment specializes in sanitary, USDA applications.

Outokumpu Acquires Technology of Advanced Cryo Magnetics
------------------------------------------------------------

Outokumpu Technology has acquired the superconducting magnetic
separation technology of Advanced Cryo Magnetics, Inc. (ACMI)
based in San Diego, USA. The contract covers the industrial
rights, product drawings and certain proprietary equipment
of ACMI.

Outokumpu's expertise in minerals processing is based on deep
understanding of physical principles of mineralogy, flotation
separation and of analyzing and controlling the mineral
beneficiation processes. Outokumpu Technology's Carpco Division
is a major producer of superconducting magnetic separation
systems.

ACMI also produced separation systems based on superconducting
magnet for white minerals processing and had a significant
user base within the kaolin and calcium carbonate industry.

By combining ACMI's product line and customer service with
Outokumpu's existing corresponding products and services
Outokumpu Technology will further strengthen its position
in the supply of superconducting magnetic separation systems
to the white minerals industry.

Shaft Seal Rescues Blender
------------------------------------------------------------

When your blender seals cause between $500-600 worth of
product per day to end up in the mop bucket, either the seals
have to go or the blender does. Steve Morrison, the Maintenance
Supervisor at Hauser, Inc., a Longmont, a co-processor of herbal
extracts, says that the MECO seals they put on their JH Day
ribbon blender "saved the machine".

When they bought the machine used in 1993, it already had a
bent and badly scored shaft, causing the packing gland that
was on the machine to give them "constant problems". These
included having to tighten the seal weekly and replace packing
every 1-2 months, having so much dust escape that it built
up in air ducts and operators had to wear personal protective
equipment, and spend two extra hours were wasted every week
cleaning up spilled product.

Jim Piffarerio, Plant Engineer for Hauser, Inc. is happy to
report that since June of 1998, their MECO seals, model
EAS-393SI, have operated on this blender "maintenance-free".
Cleaning time between batches has been reduced a third by
eliminating product cleaning outside the blender.

Operators can safely work around the machine without
respiratory protection now, and the air ducts are clear.
The specter of having to purchase a new blender at an
estimated cost of $25-30,000 has been removed, and the seals
paid for themselves in about one month of operation in
eliminated product loss alone.

User Guide to Segregation Now Available
------------------------------------------------------------

A 'User Guide to Segregation' is now available from the
British Materials Handling Board, Elsinor House, Masham,
Buck. UK. This book reviews all aspects of segregation in
a structured manner, from particle properties, process
mechanisms and processes of segregation to flow regimes and
handling operations and their variables in relation to the
many different factors of interest.

It also includes advice on methods to mitigate segregation
and restore the homogeneity of powders that have segregated.
Over 200 references are included.

This practical handbook addresses this awkward subject in
a systematic manner. A must for project and plant engineers
who may encounter this type of problem.
