More Than 175 Exhibitors

BIOPHEX and INTERPHEX California Proceed as Planned

Long Beach, CA, -- Show managers of BIOPHEX and INTERPHEX California have announced that BIOPHEX and INTERPHEX California will take place as planned on November 28-29, 2001, in Long Beach, California.

Click hereSays Kevin Richards, Industry Vice President, Reed Exhibitions (REC), show organizer “We are committed to doing everything possible to carry on with business, serve our customers and support the US economy. Our exhibitors and attendees are telling us the same.”

"ISPE is proud to collaborate with Reed Exhibitions as the major sponsor of INTERPHEX California. While we are deeply saddened by the events of September 11, we feel it is important for our industry to continue moving forward,” says Bob Best, ISPE President/CEO.

"The Western States represent an important segment of our circulation and marketer base. While we are heart broken by the recent tragic events, we feel our commitment to INTERPHEX California must stand and therefore Pharmaceutical Processing will be attending this year’s show,” adds show supporter Wayne Curtis, Group Publisher of Pharmaceutical Processing.

INTERPHEX California brings together manufacturing professionals from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nutritional industries, while BIOPHEX focuses on the equipment, services, information and technology needs of professionals involved in research, discovery, scale-up and processing of biopharmaceuticals.

“Complementing each other, INTERPHEX California and co-located BIOPHEX offer the perfect blend of solutions for the distinct and specialized needs of the marketplace,” says Richards.

Co-located INTERPHEX California:

According to Hoovers Online, the Western region accounts for almost one third of all pharmaceutical manufacturing in the United States. In fact, 18 of the 50 U.S. supplement manufacturing/marketing companies are located in California.

INTERPHEX California provides direct access to a broad cross-section of qualified buyers and suppliers from every segment of the industry’s fastest growing market. Suppliers represent pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, contract services and outsourcing, nutritional products, laboratory equipment, analytical instrumentation, and more.

INTERPHEX California, sponsored by ISPE, (The Leading Global Society for Healthcare Technology Professionals), offers a two-day conference program. Sessions include a wide range of topics of interest to pharmaceutical, nutritional and biotechnology professionals including, ‘How to Design a Package Line’; ‘Setting Up and Managing a Validation Program’; ‘Contract Services Workshop’, Dietary Supplements, Nutraceutical & Functional Food Regulatory Update’, and more.

“With more than 175 suppliers exhibiting their products and services, INTERPHEX California offers a wealth of knowledge for industry professionals that can make their companies more productive. We encourage you to attend this worthwhile event," says Bob Best, ISPE President/CEO.

Co-located BIOPHEX

BIOPHEX is a unique new event that provides the much-needed forum for information on new product development, instrumentation, and solutions and technology that will further fuel the industry’s growth. It is presented in conjunction with Genetic Engineering News (GEN).

Richards says, “This new event represents the U.S. biopharmaceutical market, estimated at $15.7 billion, with the demand for biotechnology pharmaceuticals, growing at nearly 13% annually. BIOPHEX is the only meeting place that serves the entire spectrum of bioprocessing and biomanufacturing activities.”

BIOPHEX expects to attract senior managers from biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies with responsibility for product development, manufacturing, and regulatory compliance as well as research and development professionals, bioprocess engineers, lab managers and other decision makers from companies providing services and support to the biotechnology community.

The strong technical program, designed by GEN, provides research scientists, engineers, and other industry professionals with the latest information on topics ranging from fermentation and cell culture processes to bioreactor design and bioprocessing.

Free cross-cover between BIOPHEX and INTERPHEX California offers networking opportunities and provides more opportunity to develop profitable business relationships.

Gentle Transport

Heavy-Duty, Vibratory Conveyor for Casting Shakeout

Sao Paulo, Brazil - Heavy-duty vibratory conveyors build by Mavi Maquinas Vibratorias from Sao Paulo , Brazil, are in operation at Latin America's most advanced foundry, LuK in Mogi Mirim, linked to LuK, a large European autoparts manufacturer.

Click here"Thirty tons per hour of castings are being conveyed and simultaneously cooled from 150 to 50 Celsius", says Thomas Bussius of Mavi. "Conveying requirements were extremely tough, as LuK demanded that castings should not be thrown but gently transported. A 15 degrees slope was a major problem, but Mavi managed to have the complete system running according to the purchaser's schedule" he continues.

Total mass compensation was a basic requirement in order to have absolute vibration isolation to the ground. A special conveyor for the continuous oiling (with an oil misting section and oil recycling system) was developed in order to allow LuK export castings under controlled conditions.

About LuK

LuK is one of the many Brazilian foundries operating Mavi vibratory equipment but is the first which chose to have all vibratory equipment (from conveyors to feeders, from bin vibrators to screeners, from dosing equipment to filter vibrators and heavy duty shake-outs) from just one supplier. In all over 40 Mavi machines. LuK chose Mavi.

About Mavi

Mavi Máquinas Vibratórias has been developing vibratory equipment and drives for all industrial branches since 1961. Think about us when choosing vibratory systems.

Fastest Motion in Its Class

FANUC Robotics Debuts New Packing Robot

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. is debuting the FANUC M-420iA intelligent packing robot at Worldwide Food from October 18 to 21 in booth #713 at the McCormick Center in Chicago.

Click hereFANUC M-420iA intelligent packing robot The new M-420iA intelligent packing robot is a four-axis, mid-size articulated robot with a payload of 40 kg. It is also available in a two-axis model. Designed for high-speed packaging and material handling applications, the M-420iA is 25 percent faster and can carry 30 percent more weight than competitive robots in its class.

The M-420iA can achieve cycle rates of 50 packaging cycles per minute at 30 kg, the fastest motion in its class. At Worldwide Food, the new M-420iA will be integrated into a small packaging line to show both its high-speed capabilities, and its flexible four-axis articulation.

The M-420iA will be packaging small food containers at a rate of 50 cans per minute, picking one unit at a time. Once a full tray is accumulated, the robot will move the containers to a second packaging area to show its four-axis dexterity, which is necessary for vision and line tracking integration.

The M-420iA is an ideal solution for a wide range of industries -- food/beverage, medical supplies, personal care and consumer goods. Its large work envelope (1855 mm vertical reach and 1460 mm vertical stroke) makes the M-420iA extremely flexible and more productive than manual or hard automation operations. The ability to handle up to 40 kg makes it possible to grab multiple parts at the same time and increase throughput.

"By adding this packing robot to our product line, FANUC Robotics now offers a total system solution for the distribution line from packing to palletizing," said Matt Job, engineer, palletizing and packing, FANUC Robotics. "The flexibility and speed of this new packing robot will make it a great solution for our customers."

The M-420iA will be available in both a two- and four-axis model. The two-axis unit will be targeted toward the typical two-axis packing machines for high-speed packing. The four-axis unit will be used when greater flexibility is required.

FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. designs, engineers and manufactures innovative robots and robotic systems that impact business performance for global customers. FANUC Robotics is the North American robotics industry leader and is a subsidiary of FANUC Ltd. in Japan. The company has facilities in Chicago; Los Angeles; Charlotte, N.C.; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Toledo, Ohio; Toronto; Montreal; Mexico City; Aguascalientes, Mexico; and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Mr. Gallen wants to know about dump valves:

I am interested in finding out about different applications for a Double (single or triple are okay too) Dump Valves. I understand that the Cement industry uses them a great deal but what of any others?

Basically, do you have a situation where you need material to pass via gravity between two vessels with differing pressures? Thanks in advance!
