BOSS Tank Names New President

Oswego, KS -- BOSS Tank announced the appointment of John Farris as President, effective October 16, 2006. Farris, a native of Oswego, has more than thirty years experience in the storage industry. He will be responsible for guiding and directing all aspects of BOSS Tank’s business: engineering, sales, marketing and operations.

“John is a true veteran of the tank business,” said Barbara Storment, Sales and Marketing Manager at BOSS Tank. She cited his experience, standards, ethics, vision and leadership. Prior to joining BOSS Tank, he was President of All State Tank Manufacturing in Grove, OK. He has been President of A.O. Smith Engineered Storage Products Company and President of Peabody TecTank, Inc.

“Boss Tank’s quality initiatives and unique manufacturing processes bring exciting new solutions to the storage marketplace,” Farris said. He expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to work with BOSS Tank personnel, many of whom he has worked with in the past. “It’s the people who make a company and the people in this organization are poised to achieve remarkable growth,” he said.

New : DEC Batchmixer for Active Substances

Mountainside, NJ -- Batchmixer, the newest technology from De Dietrich Process Systems and Dietrich Engineering Consultants SA (DEC), was created specifically to fulfill the need for product-friendly mixing of active substances.

Powders can now be transferred, mixed and discharged all in a closed environment. Process cycles are run in batch mode under inert conditions if required, allowing powders with different properties to be blended into a homogenous mixture - even oxygen sensitive, explosive powders, or powders with difficult flow characteristics. In addition, this self-contained system enables contamination-free mixing using no rotating mechanical parts.

The Batchmixer is designed using a Powder Transfer System (PTS) installed on top of a conical hopper. The two tangential inlets on the PTS serve to automatically introduce powders from other equipment. A central deflector in the main chamber of the Batchmixer facilitates equal distribution of the mixture in the tank. The powders are then recirculated in the vessel for a predetermined period of time to ensure thorough blending.

The PTS limits the speed at which powders are circulated, reducing any risk of particle damage during the process. The speed of the mixing process can also be increased or decreased depending on the amount of product involved. For example, powders with large differences in mixing ratio (1/10,000) can have a reduced mixing time.

The Batchmixer is virtually maintenance free, portable, easy to install, and clean-in-place (CIP). This technology is suitable for many applications and can be integrated into most production lines.

Gough Econ : Twin Rotary Vibratory Screens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Use of two vibratory motors to power the Gough Econ line of small and large capacity twin rotary vibratory feeders/screens assure economic and energy efficient operation for added reliability, gentler handling and optimum flexibility.

According to Gough Econ, vibration energy is one of the most economic methods of conveying and storage if applied correctly. The result is added savings in productivity as well as energy efficient operation.

Gough Econ twin rotary vibratory units are ideal for a variety of applications from food to industrial, salt, batteries, chemicals, fertilizer, glass cullet, metal powders, soap/detergents, ceramics and a variety of other materials.

Gough twin rotary units are typically used when applications are beyond the scope of an electromagnetic drive and in particular when units require lengths in excess of five ft and widths greater than 18 in. Material is processed at speeds that vary from 50 to 3,500 cubic feet per hour.

Four coil springs located on the frame assembly minimize vibration transfer and assure gentle handling of the material. Since product weight is typically in suspension, self-propulsion energy is used in the operation for added efficiency. The motors consume minimal amps. Since no major foundation is required, installation is easy and inexpensive.

"Vibratory energy is part of a technology and drive combination we offer that can be used to feed, convey, screen and even elevate material," according to Gough Econ. "Our equipment is tough, gentle and clean with flexibility and reliability that makes us one of the premier manufacturers of bulk material handling solutions."

About Gough Econ

The company specializes in the design and manufacture of standard and engineered material handling systems that move and protect its customer's products. Gough Econ also provides a variety of technical services including product testing, product engineering, control systems design and installation management.

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Ms. Tucker wants the best humidity for bagging whey:

Quick question, my engineers have come to me with a question that either no one has bothered to answer, or no one has bothered to ever put it down on paper. No one seems to know the best relative humidity for a whey powder bagging room.

To me it seems that we would want it somewhere between 20-60%. Of course, I am not an engineer and this is simply from my own readings that I came up with these numbers.

Does anyone here know what the "typical" or "rule of thumb" is for this type of environment?  (to post reply, click here)
