Outotec to acquire Larox Corporation

Espoo, Finland -- Outotec Oyj ("Outotec") aims to increase its business for example by acquiring complementing technologies, increasing significantly the proportion of services in its sales and applying existing technologies in new industries.

In order to speed up growth Outotec has agreed with certain main shareholders of Larox Corporation ("Larox") on share transactions, in which they sell all their Larox series A and B shares to Outotec. The purchase price for the shares shall be paid in the form of new Outotec shares. Upon completion of the share transactions, Outotec will make a mandatory public tender offer for all the remaining Larox series A and B shares.

Combining the businesses of Outotec and Larox will further strengthen Outotec's position as a globally leading provider of technology solutions and services to the mining and metals industry and enable Larox to develop its business in an international, financially solid technology group operating in the same industry.

"Our aim to supplement the technology portfolio became achievable through this share exchange arrangement. Larox's products and services fit seamlessly into Outotec's technology portfolio. The transaction also supports our objective of profitable growth. By combining our respective sales and service networks and product portfolios we can provide even more comprehensive solutions and services for minerals concentrators and metallurgical plants and generate more added value to our joint customer base," says Tapani Jarvinen, CEO of Outotec.

"I believe that this arrangement will provide Larox's employees with more diverse opportunities to develop their careers and all shareholders will be offered an opportunity to continue to invest in a strong company within the same industry. Also the customers will benefit from the increased resources, which will allow Larox to persistently develop and increase the filtration business", says Timo Vartiainen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Larox.

New Bulk Bag Weigh Batch Eductor System

Bethlehem, PA -- A new Bulk Bag Weigh Batch Eductor System loosens bulk solid material that has solidified during storage and shipment, discharges the material by weight, and blends it into a liquid stream.

The skid-mounted system incorporates two Bulk Bag Unloading Frames, each with an integral Bulk Bag Conditioner comprised of a hydraulic pump and two rams with contoured end plates that press opposing sides of bulk bags.

The unloaders' cantilevered hoists and motorized trolleys allow conditioning of bulk bags at various heights, as well as loading and unloading of bags without the need for a forklift. Safety interlocks disallow operation of the conditioner when the unloaders’ doors are open.

Integral configuration of the conditioner eliminates the time, labor and equipment needed for separate loading of bulk bags into a stand-alone conditioner, while consuming significantly less floor space than two separate pieces of equipment and reducing capital cost, according to the company.

The unloaders also feature a Spout-Lock®; clamp ring that forms a high-integrity seal between the clean side of the bag spout and the clean side of the equipment, while a Tele-Tube®; telescoping tube maintains constant downward pressure on the clamp ring and bag spout, elongating the bag as it empties to promote complete discharge.

Immediately above the clamp ring is a Power-Cincher®; flow control valve employing a series of curved, articulated rods that cinch the bag spout concentrically, allowing dust-free retying and removal of partially-empty bags.

The unloaders' surge hoppers are equipped with the company's flexible screw conveyors that gravimetrically feed bulk solids into a central solid-liquid eductor that blends the material into a liquid stream in variable ratios set by the user.

Continental's new Rollo-Mixer Mk 8 - Batch Mixer

Milwaukee, WI -- The Rollo-Mixer® Mk 8 batch mixer is an exciting new addition to Continental’s line of rotary drum mixing technology. The Mk 8 batch mixer is designed for uniformly blending dry particulates within 2 to 3 minutes. Like all Rollo-Mixers, the Mk 8 batch mixer creates rivers of material which gently divide and combine the batch several times per revolution, resulting in a quick, gentle, homogeneous blend. However, the Mk 8’s instantaneous discharge capability allows the entire batch to empty completely within seconds!

The new Rollo-Mixer Mk 8 batch mixer, with over seven years of research & development, was originally designed to blend powdered drink mixes with over 11 ingredients uniformly. These fine powder formulas consist of 2 to 3 gram additives which are evenly distributed throughout the batch. 100% product discharge is achieved by gravity into packaging containers.

This revolutionary design is unique to the dry solids processing industry. The Mk 8 batch mixer is ideal for Food, Specialty Products and high purity batch mixing applications, where cleanout and easy access are critical for quick product change over between batches.

See the Mk 8 Rollo-Mixer video on Continental’s web site which shows an entire batch cycle including loading, mixing and discharging.

Continental Products manufactures the “Rollo-Mixer”, a rotary drum batch mixer, which is well known for its uniform blending as well as precision liquid addition capabilities in Free-Fall. The Rollo-Mixer is used in mixing, blending and coating application in a wide variety of industries throughout the world.

The Continental Rollo-Mixer is a Rotary Drum Batch Blender that uniformly blends ingredients having a wide variance in particle size, density, and proportions, typically in only 6 to 9 revolutions. Product moves by gravity in all planes. The gentle, low-shear, fast-mixing, positive displacement action creates continuous rivers of material which course into and flow through one another in a random confluence.

This Rollo-Mixer achieves uniformity in 2 to 3 minutes; utilizing the least amount of energy per ton in the industry. The Continental rotary drum batch mixer is available in 4 designs and over 125 models; ranging from 3.5 to 1600 ft3 capacity.

Mr. Cotti needs help finding a dosing system for biomass

I've to dose a pretreated biomass into a reactor. this stream has been steam treated and it looks like a wet coffee powder. the material has a density of about 0.4 kg/dm3.

I do not need a high accuracy, 5% more or less will be enough. my original idea was to find a dosing system which could be used for two different sized reactors. in the first case, the required throughput would have been 3-10 kg/h, the second one 30-120 kg/h.

The problem doesn't seem to be the dosing system itself, but the equipment which in turn fill the dosing device: the material tends to bridge, has a repose angle actually vertical and plug any hopper I've tried, even with some mixer inside.

About the dosing system itself, it seemed that a screw worked quite well till it was full. I've also sent a sample to Schenck's laboratory, but after tested it, they said to can't provide me with any working equipment.  I would be glad for anyone who could help me.

Thank you in advance,
Marco Cotti
