Automated De-Aeration Lance
Bag Filling System for Hard-to-Feed
Materials
WHITEWATER, WI - The unique
Loss-Of-Weight batching system includes a de-aeration lance which
draws out a large percentage of the free air between the powder
particles in an effort to rapidly settle materials in the bags.
The
popular quick-disconnect feature provides for ease of clean-ability
and flexibility of materials. The bag filling system is ideal for
the Loss-Of-Weight batching of aeratable to dense powders into bags
and drums with batch sizes ranging from 10 to 50 kg in 30-60
seconds.
The AccuRate Model 8000
microprocessor based control with customized batching software has
the ability to control the bag clamping device, feeder batching, and
the de-aeration lance operation all through the use of a operator
foot switch. The system controller also offers bulk dribble
and bump features.
AccuRate has been finding solutions
to bulk solids metering problems for over 30 years. AccuRate is a
unit of SCHENCK, located in Darmstadt, Germany. AccuRate, pioneers
of the first flexible walled volumetric feeder, continues to provide
innovative solutions through state-of-the-art technology and
superior customer service. AccuRate has been IS09001 certified since
1995.

"I
Need to Level With You..."
Continuous
Level Phase Tracker
September 2001— Bindicator's Phase
Tracker is a cost effective, low maintenance level instrument
designed to solve the most challenging continuous level
applications. Phase Tracker can measure a variety of products in
tanks of different heights using one control unit.
A
single system can control up to 24 tanks of dissimilar material
simultaneously. Another advantage the Phase Tracker offers is in
tall, narrow silos where it is not affected by signals reflecting
off tank sidewalls or product coating on the sensor. The signal is
transmitted along a conductor so signal losses are very low.
RF Series Point Level Control
Bindicator's RF Series offers
flexible, rugged point level indication with no moving parts. This
low maintenance point level device is not effected by material
coating. Some models can be safely tested in place, in even a
hazardous environment, without removing the cover.
EZ-Cal calibration can be
accomplished in less than 30 seconds without the presence of
material. External calibration lights notify an operator of a less
than perfect calibration condition and that EZ-Cal re-calibration is
necessary. Remote calibration indication is also available via an
output relay. Bindicator's RF Series has a model available for
almost any liquid or solid.
Bindicator manufactures a complete
line of point and continuous level control instrumentation in
Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Greece Harvests the First
"Crop" of Smiley Impact Bars
Smiley Monroe, a manufacturer of
rubber and polyurethane screens and spillage control systems for the
quarrying, mining and materials handling industries, has gained its
first orders from Greece following its participation in a major
trade show in Germany.
The
company, which was assisted by LEDU to attend the Bauma
international construction machinery exhibition at Munich in April,
has won a contract, worth around £15,000, to supply almost 300
polyurethane impact bars to Athens-based Tecom. Tecom will use the
impact bars on a materials handling system it is currently
developing for a recycling project being undertaken by the Greek
government in Athens.
"We met Tecom managers in Munich
and were able to demonstrate that our impact bars offered
significant advantages over rival products in terms of durability
and value for money," says Vaughan Monroe, Smiley Monroe's
managing director. "Visiting Bauma is an integral part of our
drive to increase sales overseas activities because it attracts all
the key players in our target sectors. It's an ideal platform,
therefore, to meet them, to discuss their requirements and to
demonstrate our product range."
"Virtually every company in our
business takes part in Bauma, which last year attracted almost
400,000 trade visitors from over 150 countries worldwide. It's
essential, therefore, that we should be there too," he adds.
The company, which employs 30 people
at Lisburn, has a network of depots throughout the British Isles.
Smiley Monroe also used the exhibition to launch impact bars using
an innovative polyurethane coating its R&D operation has
developed jointly with the internationally recognized Polymer
Processing Research Centre at Queen's University in Belfast.

Equipment
Orders Up Across the Board
Conveyor Industry Shipments Remain
Strong in 2001
September 2001 NAPLES, FLORIDA —
The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reports that
through the second quarter, shipments were on pace to match 2000,
which was a record year. A significant reduction in new orders
indicates that the pace will not be maintained.
CEMA
estimates an industry total of $3.6 billion in shipments and $2.8
billion in new orders for the first six months of 2001, according to
Fred Sytsma, CEMA President, who announced the results during the
Association’s recent fall meeting in Chicago, Illinois. A downturn
in order volume occurred in the second quarter and has continued
into the third quarter. The executives representing CEMA member
companies who attended the fall meeting were uncertain as to when
there will be an upturn.
Billed sales for five of the seven
unit handling conveyor categories (Unit Handling-Light to Medium,
Unit Handling-Heavy Duty, Trolley-Light to Medium, Unit Components,
and Conveyor Chain) increased from last year’s comparable period.
Trolley Conveyor-Light to Medium shipments for the first 6 months
were up 82%, followed by unit components shipments up 13% from the
2000 six-month period. Showing an increase in bookings was the
conveyor chain category with a rise of 7%.
Bulk accessories shipments improved
15%; however, overall bulk handling category shipments slipped 7%
for the period.
Founded in 1933, CEMA is the trade
association of leading North American conveyor equipment
manufacturers. CEMA tracks seven classes of unit handling equipment
and five classes of bulk handling equipment.

Mr. Carragher wants to measure
bulk density:
Can anyone give me a reliable bulk
powder density testing method that is reproducible. This for a free
flowing to a caking powder. Does ASTM have a good method for this?
And does anyone know of a reliable, inexpensive automatic bulk
