Screw Heat Exchanger cools Starch Powder
Drunen,
The Netherlands -- With the production of the so-called
"soft candy" (think about the well-known gummy bears) a
boiling, liquid sugar mix is poured into shapes that are
pressed in moulds filled with starch powder. The starch
is re-used continuously, but still needs to be cooled
for this purpose time and again.
°Celsius recently delivered a
cooling screw to one of the largest South-African sweets
manufacturers which can cool starch at 8000 kg/hour from
50 °C to 20 °C. This uses a mix of water and glycol with
a temperature of -2 °C as cooling liquid.
The °Celsius cooling screw is
a double screw with a length of 8 meters and a height of
1 meter and it performs a buffer-function to ensure that
there is always a sufficient feed of starch for filling
the moulds.
This machine is the third one
that has been delivered to this manufacturer in the past
few years. Previously, the cooling was done with air,
but this lead to major dust problems.
About °Celsius
°Celsius is the sister
company of the famous company Van Beek schroeftransport,
which has been producing screw conveyors since 1939.
Based on its experience of many years °Celsius has
established itself in 2002 as an independent and
specialist unit for the development and realization of
thermal heating and cooling screws.

Mr. Harns needs help
metering hot fines:
I am looking for a way to
meter aggregate fines, that are hot 300F, in a continuous
stream. Loss in weight systems are not allowed.
Is there a "scale auger"
along the same line as a scale belt. Something that
can handle the temperature and protection from the wind.
This is for an outdoors application.
We have tried splatter
scales, but they don't have the accuracy or repeatability.

Novel Size Reduction System for Recycled Glass
The remote Isle of Lewis, in
Scotland's Outer Hebrides, seems an unlikely place for
technological innovation, but the island's capital of
Stornoway is the site of an unusual glass-recycling
operation. The plant is novel in that it economically
converts a relatively small volume of waste bottles and
jars into a variety of products, some of them quite
valuable...(more)
