Solids Handling : Lab, Lecture and Lunch

Tyngsboro, MA -- Back by popular demand, Jenike & Johanson engineers will be delivering a one-day seminar, October 27, 2006, at their Tyngsboro, Massachusetts office/laboratory regarding fundamental aspects of bulk solids handling, testing, and pneumatic conveying.

The training will also include presentations by experts at Chilworth Technology on dust explosions and static electricity generation during solids handling.

This informative workshop will provide insights into common flow problems that arise when bulk solids are put into silos, bins, and hoppers. Scientific methods to characterize a material's flow properties will be demonstrated in our laboratory along with discussion of proven, practical, and cost effective design solutions for common bulk solids handling equipment.

Proper training of personnel involved in solids handling and processing is essential to operating an efficient and reliable bulk solids handling system. Since the theory of bulk solids handling is seldom a part of formal engineering training, many in industry lack an understanding of why solids handling problems occur and what practical steps can be taken to diagnose, alleviate, or prevent them. This workshop provides fundamental principles essential for any personnel dealing with bulk solids.

Call Jenike & Johanson at 978-649-3300 to register and obtain additional information on this course or Jenike & Johanson services.

Industrial Vacuum Cleaner has Dust Bagging System

Belleville, NJ -- The MDL850 Continuous Duty Vacuum Cleaner offers a unique approach to containing the powder collected. Using a continuous bagging system eliminates drum handling and gives the operator better control over dust and disposal issues.

Along with the bagging system the MDL850 comes equipped with a unique filter cleaning system that does not require compressed air and the filters can be cleaned without shutting the vacuum cleaner down for high productivity cleaning. While the filters are being cleaned the discharge valve opens and automatically discharges the collected product into the continuous bagging system.

Other features of the MDL850 include a heavy-duty frame and compact size allowing for up to 3 operators working in a 50’ area. Filter area of the VAC-U-MAX MDL850 is 3X greater then previous models. Large diameter discharge valve means for faster discharge time for the collected dust allowing the operators to continue working faster. The MDL850 is also available with portable intercept with the same continuous bagging system.

VAC-U-MAX has been manufacturing industrial vacuum cleaners since 1954 when they marketed the first air-operated vacuum cleaner. With extensive knowledge of handling fine powders VAC-U-MAX industrial vacuum cleaners are rugged machines. Air-Operated vacuum cleaners have a lifetime warranty and are excellent for recovery of liquids as well as powders.

The Continuous Duty Vacuum Cleaner line from VAC-U-MAX offers the widest range of possibilities for clean up of almost anything from powder paints to steel shot. VAC-U-MAX also offers Central Vacuum Cleaning Systems for larger plants. Central Vacuum Cleaning System are used in the Cement, Glass and Ceramic industry’s as well as a host of other application where bulk pick up or dust needs to be cleaned up.

New : Sealed Gravity Diverter Valves from Lorenz

Cobourg, ONT -- Lorenz has launched a new line of Sealed Gravity Diverter Valves for gravity flow application of dry materials. Sizes range from 4” up to 16” in a variety of configurations including H & Y styles in 45 degree and 30 degree legs.

Available in stainless steel, aluminum and carbon steel construction. Active compression seals on shaft prevent leakage past the shaft and tough polymer blade seal prevent cross contamination. Blade tip is recessed into body to direct material away from the leading edge preventing cross contamination and wear.

Double acting, internal magnetic, cushioned air cylinder and choice of solenoids allow custom configurations. Optional removable access door allows replacement of seals, inspections and cleaning without having to remove valve from service.

Square to round transitions are available. All valves come fully tested ready to install.

Lorenz was established in 1979 is Canada's leading manufacturer of couplings, tube & pipe bends, fittings, diverter valves, slide gates, cyclones & custom fabricated accessories for the pneumatic conveying, vacuum and bulk handling systems servicing the plastics, food and chemical industries. Mixer Offered with Interchangeable Rotors/Stators

Hauppauge, NY -- The Ross Series 700 High Shear Mixer is commonly used for creating high quality emulsions and dispersions throughout the process industries. This High Shear Mixer incorporates special high-speed rotors running in close proximity to fixed stators. They are capable of generating the high shear rates required for manufacturing small droplet dispersions or emulsions.

The Series 700 High Shear Mixer is available with the following interchangeable rotor/stator sets to control the level of shear and throughput.

Quad Slot rotor/stator set comprised of four intermeshing rows of teeth that provide high flow rates and high shear levels.

X-Series - low profile rotor/stator set where the clearance between the rotor and stator is adjustable. This adjustability enables precise control of shear levels and flow rates.

MegaShear – the close tolerance, high flow rate design that generates the highest shear levels of any rotor/stator mixer available.

Help Forum : Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Jin wants to know about dust collection systems:

I have a client in Asia who runs a cement packaging operation that would like to install a dust collection system.  It's not a large plant.

Can I send specifications to a US dust system manufacturer and have a finished product shipped to Asia for assembly and installation?  Is what I'm proposing here a feasible option?

I know that most of these systems are custom built.  Any advice would be very welcome.  (to post reply, click here)

Insitec Helps Optimize Ball Milling

Implementation of a novel control strategy, underpinned by on-line particle size data measured using a Malvern Insitec, has transformed process efficiency at a metal powder production facility.  Prior to installation of the new system large fluctuations in particle size were a regular occurrence and the particle size distribution of the finished product was very broad...(more)
