Processing : New Continuous Granulator Combines Granulating, Drying & Milling

Warminster, PA -- L B Bohle has introduced a unique, new granulator that allows for continuous throughput of materials. The BCG Continuous Granulator, combines granulating, drying and milling in a single operation, and allows for the production of formulations with active concentrations as high as 96%.

The higher active content allows for a smaller, easier-to-swallow tablet using a significantly lower volume of excipient. A unique kneading action of the system allows the introduction of water that enables the granulation of even hydrophobic actives. The system also enables the introduction of specific amounts of nitrogen gas into the granulation. This allows the user to determine the porosity of the granules, which greatly expands formulation capabilities.

Constructed to meet 21 CFR Part 11 requirements, the system features all stainless steel construction with full computer process and recipe documentation.

L. B. Bohle is a supplier of innovative process machinery to the Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical industry. We also provide turn key solutions to our customers including complete engineering support. The major equipment supplied includes: Blending Systems, High Shear Granulators, Tablet Coaters, Fluid Bed Technology, Continuous Granulators, Bins, Containers, Post Hoist Lifters, Mobile Lifters, Dispensing Systems, Docking Stations.

Packaging : Stainless Steel Palletizer for Washdown Environments

Vancouver, WA -- Columbia Machine's new stainless steel FL10 floor-level palletizer is specifically engineered for clean, washdown packaging environments in food, pharmaceutical and other industries where sanitation is critical.

The FL10's clean structural design of corrosion-resistant materials eliminates areas of potential bacterial growth and provides easy access for thorough sanitation and routine maintenance. Continuous welds on the formed ј" thick stainless steel frame construction ensure long-lasting durability.

Running at speeds up to 15 cases-per-minute (CPM), the palletizer is ideal for slow-speed production line applications. It comes complete with easy-to-run, preprogrammed stacking patterns and features a small footprint that is able to fit through 8' x 8' doorways.

For more than 40 years, Columbia Machine has manufactured high-level, floor-level, and robotic palletizers and accessories in the USA. They feature rugged construction, setup flexibility, upgradeable designs and speeds ranging from 10 to 200 CPM. All Columbia palletizers are backed by 24-hour customer support and parts service.

Bulk Materials : Flexicon Europe Opens New Test Laboratory

Herne Bay, United Kingdon -- Continued growth throughout recent years has encouraged bulk solids handling specialists Flexicon (Europe) Ltd. to acquire and develop another 280sq. m of factory space, immediately adjacent to the present Herne Bay facility, to upgrade their Customer Test Laboratory. The new facility is equipped with full size bulk handling systems and equipment that can be readily reconfigured and accessorized to simulate customer installations while the virtually unlimited combination of system configurations enable Flexicon to establish repeatable performance ranges for entire systems and components.

Using customer supplied bulk materials, engineers and laboratory technicians can verify system performance prior to final equipment design and fabrication and demonstrate newly constructed equipment for visiting customers prior to shipment. This assures viability in a project prior to major investment and performance capability prior to, as well as after, commissioning.

The test laboratory for pneumatic bulk handling systems is equipped with blowers, vacuum pumps, filter receivers, cyclone separators, inlet/discharge adapters and valves, and conveyor lines in a wide range of diameters and lengths. The test laboratory for mechanical bulk handling systems is equipped with flexible screw conveyors in a comprehensive range of diameters, lengths and screw configurations. Both test laboratories are also equipped with bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag fillers, manual dumping stations, automated weigh batching systems and other equipment designed to interface with pneumatic and/or mechanical conveying systems. In addition, Flexicon engineers also utilize the laboratories to study the performance of new designs.

Side-by-side installation of flexible screw and pneumatic conveyor test equipment allows the relative merits of each to be compared in terms of conveying over short and long distances, moving problematic materials, preventing the separation of blends and meeting other application-specific requirements.

The ability of Bulk Bag Dischargers to promote complete discharge and allow dust-free loading, untying, retying and removal of bulk bags can be proven using customers' own bulk bags and materials. Similarly, the performance of weighing systems, bulk bag fillers, bag dump stations, drum dumpers and a range of other pneumatic and mechanical process equipment and integrated systems can be evaluated prior to, and following, manufacture.

Mixing Technologies : Introduces An Innovative Line Of Stainless Steel Mixers

Medley, FL -- Mixing Technologies, a division of Motech Manufacturing Company, Inc. announces the introduction of an innovative line of PLC controlled high intensity turbo sanitary mixers. Entirely built in sanitary stainless steel, with all contact surfaces mirror polished, this mixers feature ease of use and a very intensive mix process which results in a high quality mix in very short processing time.

Mixing Technologies’ Turbo Mixers combine the effect of a central impeller which keeps the mix under a constant acceleration with a side mounted chopper rotating at high speed.

Main applications are mixing of powders, granulations and dispersions. Fats and shortenings can be processed at room temperature. Liquids can be easily added through a metering pump. The processing tulip shaped bowl can also be delivered with double jacket, when cooling or heating are required.

The high shear mixers can be supplied in capacities ranging from 0.8 to 35 cu ft, either in a stand alone configuration or integrated with up and downstream accessories to allow a seamless manufacturing process. In addition to these models, Mixing Technologies supplies also a laboratory/development unit with interchangeable bows, with a working capacity of 0.7 to 2.6 gallons, and which is the functional equivalent to its bigger brothers.

At the FPMA show Mixing Technologies will exhibit a laboratory and a production unit, as well as a cone mill and related processing equipment.

Motech Manufacturing Co., Inc. markets and distributes high-end processing equipment. Mixing Division was established in 2003 in order to market and distribute processing equipment to the Fine Chemical, Cosmetics, Food and Nutraceutical industries.

Bulk Unloading Solutions

Maritime traffic is an ancient tradition in Europe as elsewhere. In the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, trade was controlled in the 14th and 15th centuries mainly by the German Hanseatic League. On the other side of Europe, the Venetians and Genoese controlled trade in the Mediterranean. In those times as today, every bustling port was equipped with gear for loading and unloading ships.....(more)
