ChuteMaven : Material Flow Modeling Made Easy

Bonita Springs, FL -- Hustrulid Technologies Inc. is pleased to announce the release of their new modeling software package called "ChuteMaven". Please visit their web site for a free trial software download.

ChuteMaven is built so the engineering firms who design the systems can easily analyze existing or new transfer stations. This next generation of modeling bulk material flow through transfer stations using the discrete element method allows designers to evaluate chutes with relative ease. Designers can have a model running in a few minutes by simply importing a 3-D AutoCAD .dxf file and setting a few parameters. Avi files and data exporting allow for informative and beautiful presentations.

Modeling a transfer chute with Chute Maven is very easy. You draw your chute to scale, including the belt and load point in AutoCAD. Import the drawing into the Chute Maven program. Set a few parameters, run the simulation, and finally review the results. The steps are outlined in the following pages.

-Draw Chute in AutoCAD.
-Import AutoCAD Dxf file into Chute Maven.
-Set the belt speed, material properties, and tonnages.
-Run the simulation.
-Create AVI's and review results.

The Chute Maven program is capable of modeling many different types of transfer chutes. Below are examples to give you idea about what the program can do. ChuteMaven have also tried to keep the chutes as simple as possible to demonstrate the capabilities of the model as opposed to the specific good or bad design of the chute.

Pelletron : Unveils Revolutionary, Patented "Pellbow"

Lancaster, PA -- Pelletron will showcase a unique and patented conveying pipeline elbow that is trade named the Pellbow. It is especially designed to minimize damage caused when solid particles are injected into a high velocity conveying system - the higher the velocity, the more dust and streamers are formed in elbows.

Design Principle: The Pelletron design creates a streamlined pocket shape by enlarging the bend at the incoming point in order to produce a soft layer of pellets just before they impact the angular target zone. The resulting soft layer of pellets will deflect incoming pellets toward the outlet, thus minimizing product degradation and air pressure resistance.

Advantages of the new Pellbow design include; elimination of streamers; reduction of dust; handling of abrasive products and the gentle changing of direction in the piping system. Due to the Bernoulli pocket, the Pellbow is 100% self-cleaning when the pipe system is purged.

The new Pellbow is available in stainless steel, aluminum and cast iron. The special design of the Pellbow can easily adapt to fit to almost all pipe and tube sizes according to various standards. Stub ends and various flange designs are available in sizes 38mm to 250mm.

Piab : Honors “Vacuum Pioneers” at Chicago Conference

Hingham, MA -- PIAB Vacuum Products, an innovator of industrial vacuum technology, honored seven original distributor leaders with “Vacuum Pioneer” awards on Thursday, September 8th, 2005 at a reception held at the Chicago Field Museum. Each recipient was presented with an engraved silver compass, symbolizing each man’s courage in forging un-chartered territory when tasked with selling the first PIAB vacuum pumps 25 years ago.

The Pioneer Awards ceremony corresponded with a special distributor conference held to launch PIAB’s latest innovation--COAX® technology. The conference, themed “The Next Generation of Vacuum Technology,” took place at a pivotal time, as the company prepares to aggressively shift its focus from traditional multi-stage vacuum pumps to new, patented COAX® technology-based pumps, which perform up to 40% higher than alternative options.

“We thank you for leading the way, almost a quarter of a century ago, when PIAB’s first pumps dramatically changed the way vacuum was used in manufacturing,” said PIAB CEO Don Spradlin. “Tonight we recognize you in front of our new PIAB vacuum pioneers, who represent the next generation in vacuum technology--COAX.”

“You cannot imagine how good it feels to be standing here 25 years later with all of you,” said Angus Buchanan, a PIAB Vacuum Pioneer Award recipient whose unflagging support contributed to the company’s widespread expansion over the last two decades.

Award recipients present at the ceremony included Dick Bardos, Jim Murphy, Angus Buchanan, Dick Montague, Bob Fioresi, Mitch Bollus, and Chuck Voelker.

SRNL : Develops Dry/Wet Pneumatic-Powered Lift

Aiken, SC -- Developed by the Savannah River National Laboratory, this is a device that is a pneumatic conveyance system that is capable of dislodging, capturing, and conveying solid material, wet or dry, from a depth of 70 feet.

The device relies on pneumatic “push” technology rather than the “suction” technology that has been traditionally used in pneumatic conveyance devices. While suction devices create high vacuum at the expense of high air consumption, this device utilizes a different design which creates a significantly stronger “push” on material and better material conveyance. Advantages of this device over similar suction devices is its performance. It provides the capability to carry the material to heights of 70 plus feet; suction devices are limited to 25 feet.

The application is for transport of solids and solid/liquid mixtures to elevation in excess of 50 ft. using compressed air only. Examples include transporting sand, wet sand, aggregate, plastics, grain and etc. for processing and storage. As an attachment to cleaning tools such as scarifiers, scabblers, shredders, etc., to transport debris to remote storage or holding locations. It can also be of valuable use for removal and transport of contaminated/hazardous materials such as asbestos, chemicals, and radioactive waste to remote storage locations in excess of 200 ft.

SRNL is currently entertaining expressions of interest from companies to commercialize this technology.

Mr. Vincent needs help making nano particles:

I am currently investigating a nano particle production method and am interested in the claim that: "dry milling to produce nano particles within a salt matrix, virtually eliminates agglomeration."

Is this something special that other producers/methods are not able to achieve?  Thanks for any help that is rendered.
