Want to save some money this year on
your equipment purchases? There is a new depreciation
allowance that the IRS has that may effect your purchases. See
our article below for more detail and links.
Our goal is to provide information to
improve your business by using the resources available on the
Internet.
Accurate recording of all bulk
material movements in and out of any mill is an essential
requirement of any efficiently run plant. While many mills utilize
road weighbridges for this weight recording, bulk throughput
weighers can provide a more flexible and cost-effective alternative.
BMH
Chronos Richardson offer a range of loadcell bulk throughput
weighers, designed to meet the handling requirements of both
free-flowing and powdery bulk materials. These weighers are
available in a variety of sizes which reflect the requirements of
mills of all capacities right through to bulk grain import / export
terminals.
For a typical mill delivering
finished product in bulk, filling compartmentalized lorries can be a
time consuming task. In order to fill each compartment to the target
weight the lorry driver often has to make frequent trips to the
weighbridge, which although a slow process is nevertheless essential
to achieve the desired weight.
With a bulk throughput weighing
system trips to the weighbridge can be virtually eliminated. The
system's Bulktronic 7 controller is capable of storing transaction
information including: bulk density, material in flight, bin
allocation and outloading data for up to sixty four (64) different
materials. These data ensure that the optimum material cut-off point
is achieved for every filling cycle, thereby ensuring weighments to
Weights and Measures accuracy standards are delivered every time.
ERIE, PA - In food processing and
packaging, Eriez’ E-Z Slide Horizontal Motion Conveyor eliminates
breakage, oily tray build-up and coating flaking common with most
vibratory conveying equipment. The conveyor's horizontal motion also
reduces damage and improves part handling in the metalworking,
ceramic, powdered metal and foundry environments.
A
new two page brochure provides specifications on Eriez' recently
introduced E-Z Slide Horizontal Motion Conveyor system. The
literature details the conveyor's gentle sliding motion as well as
its mechanics, applications and specifications.

30%
First Year
New Depreciation Allowance for
Equipment Purchases
If you know companies who are
considering plant expansions, you might bring this news to their
attention. This would be an excellent time for them to reevaluate
the projects they've requested funding for that have temporarily
been put on hold.
During 2001, many of us wrote our
state representatives in Washington, D.C., to request that a special
depreciation allowance be enacted to stimulate the economy by growth
through corporate plant expansion. The recently enacted Job Creation
and Worker Assistance Act of 2002 is what we've been waiting for.
A portion of the act includes a new
30% first year special depreciation allowance. It states:
"If you acquire depreciable
property after September 10, 2001, with a recovery period of
20 years or less, you may be able to claim an additional 30%
first-year depreciation allowance. (More generous depreciation rules
apply to certain property acquired after September 10, 2001, and
used in the area of New York City damaged in the September 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks.)"
This act may also reduce 2001 taxes
for projects completed in the fall of 2001. Links to forms and
additional information are available at:

Lower
Installation Costs
Feeding System Provides Higher
Accuracies
Whitewater, WI - When utilizing a
Schenck Multicor-K flowmeter for coal dust feeding, cement producers
enjoy precise accuracies and lower installation and operating costs.
By
using direct weighing technology without a counterbalancing system
the measuring principle of the Multicor-K is not affected by the
same external forces that affect the measuring accuracies of other
flowmeters.
When installing a Multicor-K, cement
producers are able to save costs because of its unique design. There
is a simple support structure, no pre-bin required, no flexible
connections, less external equipment, and no aeration system
required. By simplifying the Multicor-K, installation is quicker and
easier reducing costs for the user.
The Multicor-K also offers additional
features, which include:
Multicell feeder with internal
agitator and large inlet designed for mass flow and optimum
performance
Load cell housing is arranged so
unit can be touched during operation without having influence on
the measurement
Material is dropped into the
conveying pipe so no major airflow goes into the measurement
area
The diameter of the inlet area is
approximately 700 mm providing a wide area for material
extraction
Short-term accuracy better than ±
0.5% of the actual flow rate
The Multicor-K is an excellent choice
for feeding pulverized coal, pet coke, and other pulverized fuels.
It is also an accepted complement to the other products that SCHENCK
offers to cement producers.

Mr. Hentschel needs help with a
vacuum receiver:
We are using a vacuum receiver with a
rotary airlock to discharge material directly to a feed screw.
Problem is when receiver is refilling, we lose about 60% of material
in feed screw. It seems like vacuum is holding material from transferring
to feed screw.

Has anybody got a solution for
pneumatic conveying of very fine calcium carbonate? (under 5
micron) The specific problem is that the material in the receiving
silo aerates and floods the reverse pulse bag filter resulting in
bag chokes.
