Exclusive Printing Inks: Topas Makes Them Possible
------------------------------------------------------------
The importance of appealing designs in the packaging industry
is rising steadily. Indirectly, this also affects printing
ink manufacturers, whose products are expected to satisfy
increasingly unusual demands.
The company BASF Vernici e Inchiostri in Cinisello (Italy)
therefore produces its liquid inks on six high-capacity
Topas bead mills from Buhler.
Packagings are becoming increasingly exotic, with their
forms and colors having to be continuously adapted to the
breathtaking pace of change that marketing strategies are
undergoing. The company BASF Vernici e Inchiostri in
Cinisello near Milan is active in the field of liquid
printing ink production and has therefore felt the full
impact of this trend. The Italian affiliate of BASF
therefore searched for a flexible solution for the future.
Characteristics such as low product temperatures or resistance
to wear and corrosion thanks to the application of
ceramic materials of construction convinced BASF that
the Topas high-capacity bead mill was the right choice.
Topas is the ideal solution for the fine dispersion and
fine grinding of low- to medium-viscosity, water-based
and solvent-containing products. In other words, the
machine perfectly suits the customer’s application range.
Working closely together in an exemplary partnership, the
engineers from Buhler and BASF designed six entirely new
processing lines equipped with Topas high-capacity bead
mills. Today, these machines operate fully automatically
as part of the overall plant and are controlled from a
centralized location via a bus system. These adjustments
have made it possible for BASF to implement, among other
things, job and formulation management tasks as well as
to achieve a clear overview of the process operations.
Four machines are provided for production of the four
colors cyan, yellow, magenta and black. The other two
Topas units are reserved by the customer for overcoming
bottlenecks or processing specialty inks. The six
high-capacity bead mills give BASF the necessary flexibility
to cope with qualitatively and quantitatively demanding
jobs. With an annual output of 4000 metric tons of ink,
the company has not yet reached its capacity limits and
is therefore well prepared to handle additional order
volumes.

Portasilo Bulk Handling Systems Leads with Pneumatic Conveying
------------------------------------------------------------
Portasilo will display the latest developments to the highly
successful PORTASILO SUPERFLO dense phase pneumatic conveying
system, the award winning ROTOFLO discharge system and the
innovative VIBROFLO vibratory discharger.
The PORTASILO SUPERFLO system is unique in its ability to
handle a large range of materials within a single vessel.
The system incorporates an on-line airflow control system,
which continuously monitors and adjusts the air distribution
to optimise conveying performance.
With the built in fluidising unit, the PORTASILO SUPERFLO
system can condition and homogenise products within the
vessel itself, reducing down stream mixing times and increasing
overall plant efficiency. This well proven equipment is designed
for 1.5 million cycles, which means a typical design life of
30 years - a 'fit and forget' solution to your pneumatic
conveying problems.
The Engineering Industry Award winning ROTOFLO discharge
unit is the versatile, efficient, precisely controlled,
reliable and cost effective solution to silo discharge
problems. It eliminates core flow, bridging, 'ratholing'
and stagnant areas in discharging even the most difficult of
particulate materials, without recourse to vibration or
aeration. Units can be readily retro-fitted to existing
storage installations.
Portasilo's innovative VIBROFLO vibratory discharge system
is robust and versatile, where a vibratory solution is
essential. The evolutionary design of the VIBROFLO discharger
eliminates the circumferential seal - the Achilles heal of
previous vibratory discharge devices. In doing this,
Portasilo has produced a dust free vibratory discharger,
which can be either round, square or rectangular. By
mounting to a conventional flange, the unit can be supplied
for both new installations or retro-fitted.
Portasilo Bulk Handling Systems offers a wide range of
handling and storage solutions for particulate materials,
based on over 45 years experience throughout process
industry. Planned maintenance services, tailored to
specific customer requirements, are available to ensure
equipment remains at peak efficiency, year after year.
