100 years of radio in Austria, 80 years of MUK

The Vienna address “Johannesstrasse 4a” is the focus of two live radio broadcasts in collaboration with Radio Austereich 1. The event is the 100th anniversary of the medium “radio” in Austria and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the private university of music and art. City of Vienna (MUK), a company of Wien Holding.

On October 1, 1924, the first state-licensed broadcaster began broadcasting as a dedicated music, cultural and educational program, produced since 1926 in the radio house at Johanneskaus 4a near the Vienna Opera.

The Conservatory of the City of Vienna has been located in this first radio station of the former Radio-Werkers-AG (RAVAG) since 1945. Today it is the private university of music and art of the city of Vienna: so the cultural broadcaster Radio Österreich 1, MUK and many research centers and institutions come together to celebrate an entertaining, interesting and historically informative anniversary.

Anniversary concert live at MUK on 1st October

The focus was on the anniversary concert “100 years of radio in Austria, 80 years of MUK”, coordinated with the anniversary of RAVAG’s first broadcast, on October 1, 2024 at MUK in Johanneskaus. will be performed in the theatre. The concert will be broadcast on cultural broadcaster Radio Österreich 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert brings radio music from the early 20th century (Hans Kall, Bert Silving, Wally Weigel, Egon Welles and Friedrich Wildgens) into dialogue with contemporary stages, including three premieres by students from the private university of music and art in the city of Vienna. The concert will be conducted by Ö1 stars Elke Tschaikner and Christian Scheib.

The anniversary concert will be broadcast live on the cultural broadcaster Radio Österreich 1 on October 1st and then online for 30 days.

Classic meeting place from MUK on Ö1 September 28

Before – a musical, radiophonic and culinary introduction, broadcast live from MUK at Johanneskas 4a on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10:05 a.m. through the Classical Music Meeting Point. Rector Ö1 will be the guests of music boss LK Tscheichner The MUK, Andreas Mailat-Pokorny, composer Susanna Szabke and MUK alumna, composer and artist Flora Keiselbrecht, who will also play live.
