Capitol buildings in several US states were evacuated

Shortly before the third anniversary of the capital attacks, state Capitols in several US states were temporarily evacuated due to bomb threats. In Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan and Mississippi, a related threat was sent several times today (local time) in the form of an email, US media reported, citing responsible police officials. It is not taken seriously. After some time the buildings were re-accessed.

“While everyone is safe, Kentucky State Police are asking everyone to evacuate the Capitol,” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear wrote on Platform X (Twitter). “We are aware of similar threats against other offices across the country.” Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling cautioned against jumping to conclusions about threats in X. “In 2024 there will be agents of chaos who will sow discord,” he warned. “They want to escalate the tension. Don't let that happen.”

The US has a presidential election on November 5th – and given the political violence surrounding the 2020 election, there are fears that there could be a return to serious unrest. Supporters of then-President Donald Trump violently stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021.
