New sales record: Lego is the world's largest toy manufacturer

Sales rose by two percent to set a new record. Thus the company maintained its position despite the difficult market environment.

Lego posted a drop in profits last year, but maintained its leading global position among toy makers. As the Danish company announced on Tuesday, the bottom line in 2023 was a net profit of 13.1 billion kroner (1.8 billion euros), down five percent from the previous year. Sales rose two percent to 65.9 billion crowns – a record value.

The company, with its popular colorful building blocks, has maintained its position despite a tough market environment due to high inflation. This is the first annual profit decline since 2017. This is due to investments in the areas of sustainability and digitization.

Lego expects further growth this year: “We've gained market share every year, and chances are this will continue,” said Lego boss Niels Christiansen. (APA/AFP)
