Pub gets 3 million compensation

The now nine-year-old lost his father, mother, brother and maternal grandparents in a cable car accident at Lake Maggiore.

The only nine-year-old Israeli boy who survived the 2021 cable car accident on Mount Mottaron on Lake Maggiore will receive more than three million euros in compensation, according to a firm agreement between the parties involved.

As such, the boy's attorney will withdraw his application to join as a civil plaintiff in the criminal trial in Verbania, which continues Tuesday.

Italian media reported that the compensation will be paid by the South Tyrolean cable car company Leitner and Real Mutua, the cable car's operating company “Ferrovi del Motorone” and the defendant's insurance company.

A bitter custody battle

A cable car accident on May 23, 2021 killed 14 people, including the surviving boy's father, mother, brother and maternal great-grandfather. The child has been at the center of a bitter custody battle between his father's and mother's sides for months. The child was then handed over to his paternal aunt.

In Verbania, six people have been charged in an investigation into a cable car accident at Lake Maggiore, including three representatives of Leitner's company. A settlement was reached in January between Leitner's company and 76 relatives of the 14 victims of the tragedy. Neither the amount nor the contents were disclosed to the public.
