Register now for the 46th Week of Hymns for Church Music

The Choral Week for Church Music is taking place for the 46th time this year at the Schloss Buchberg Education Center in Wells, sponsored by the Church Music Department of the Diocese of Linz. From Sunday, July 21 to Friday, July 26, 2024, around 100 choir singers and choir directors will rehearse a colorful repertoire of choral literature under the experienced leadership. The conclusion can be heard in the final concert on Wednesday July 24 at 7:00 pm in St. Joseph (Wells-Bernau) and on July 26 at 7:30 pm in the Parish Church of St. Joseph (Wells-Bernau). This week’s theme is “The Night Will Be Over Soon.” Symphony No. in B major. 2, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809 – 1847) sang, choirs and orchestra. In addition, choral works from the Renaissance to the present and literature from the area of ​​new spiritual song (jazz, pop, spiritual) are performed.

“Controlled Overdose” is a song by the choir

The 46th Choral Week for Church Music is organized by the Church Music Department of Linz Diocese. The benefits of this special week, which will present the song “Controlled Overdose” , they will learn new song literature, they can also try it in their own choirs.

The music was performed under the direction of Mona Hartmann (formerly Rosteswenscheidt), Benjamin Hartmann and Florian Hutterer. Singing takes place in the full choir and in two seminar choirs, “Clange des Nordens” and “A new song”. Mona Hartmann is Commissioner of Church Music for the Diocese of Linz, concert organist, church musician, choir director and organ lecturer. Benjamin Hartmann is Artistic Director and International Choir Conductor of the Salzburg Bach Choir. Florian Hutterer is a consultant in the church music department of the diocese of Linz and a teacher of choral conducting and computer science.

Experienced choral directors can deepen their existing skills in a choir seminar: in addition to individual and group lessons, they have the opportunity to try out individual pieces from the seminar program as part of the “Sounds of the North” seminar choir. An “Ensemble” workshop for advanced lyric literature completes the program. Four voice coaches are on hand to take care of the participants’ voices: Juri Eckersdorfer, Doris Maria Ritter, Robert Rathwallner and Joseph Zollinger.
